I love the NN [name_u]Ottie[/name_u] but feel like that can’t be the full name on the birth certificate.
And can anyone suggest good middle name combos?
All the middle names I like seem to being with E - [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] - which doesn’t seem to flow with [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] due to the double e.
I have [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] on my short list! I think they’re lovely, though I slightly prefer [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] today. My combo is [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]/a [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] - I’ve found that a harder sound matches better with the -ie ending of [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]. I also love “L” names with [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]/a; I actually believe I had [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]/a [name_f]Luna[/name_f] on my list at one point.
I think [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] sounds very pretty but it’s a little bit over-the-top, but then again, maybe not anymore over-the-top sounding than [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] is sweet and reminds me of [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] so I find it really usable. [name_u]Ottie[/name_u] is very cute and will fit in well with the [name_f]Addie[/name_f]'s but stand out among them as well.
[name_f]Odile[/name_f] and Odilla are also [name_m]Otto[/name_m] names.
So is [name_f]Odette[/name_f] / [name_f]Odetta[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Odile[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is beautiful.
[name_f]Odile[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Odile[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] are lovely as well
I like [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] best - I find it both sweet & classy, as well as zesty & fun, which is what I like in a name. [name_u]Ottie[/name_u] makes a nice nickname too.
As for your E- problem, I think it depends on the E- name. I don’t think the repeated letter need be much a concern, it doesn’t stand out visually, but rather that difference between a middle name beginning with a long E- ([name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]) which throws out the flow, or a shorter E- ([name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f]), which flows really nicely. My advice would be to go through your E- list and say the combos out loud - I think you’ll find many of your E- names might work well with [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]. Also, keep in mind that some E- names can be said either way, such as EElizabeth or EHlizabeth.
I like [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f]. [name_u]Ottie[/name_u] is a cute idea, I haven’t seen that before! [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is great.
All of them are so lovely, but [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] is probably my favourite. The other two tie for second. For what it’s worth, I know a baby girl named [name_m]Otto[/name_m] (gag - not the name, just on a girl).
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has a really nice flow I think.
[name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Ottiline[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f], & [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are my other favourite combos. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is actually my favourite of the three E names you listed, but I don’t like it with any of the [name_u]Ottie[/name_u]’s.
I like [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] best. [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] reminds me of [name_m]Attila[/name_m] (the Hun). [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] seems longer than necessary, especially if you plan to use [name_u]Ottie[/name_u].
I love both [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] & [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f], I’m not sure which one I prefer in English. [name_f]Odilia[/name_f] is also gorgeous. I don’t care too much for the other ones.
I personally think that E names are fine as long as they don’t start with an EE- sound ([name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is gorgeous).
Of these, my favorite is [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f], but I like [name_f]Odilia[/name_f] much more (I guess that doesn’t get you to [name_u]Ottie[/name_u], though). I think [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is gorgeous!
I’m not sure where you’re from, but for those saying Od- names are always [name_m]Otto[/name_m] names, they aren’t in other accents where d’s and t’s are pronounced differently.
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] has grown on me a lot in the past months. [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] is interesting as well, it sounds very regal to me, like a queen’s name in medieval Europe. [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] is more clunky imo.
I think [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is a very nice combo, although the sounds do flow into each other a bit. I like the lightness of [name_f]Esme[/name_f] with the somewhat heavier [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] or [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] feel too weighted next to [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f].
For what its worth, I think [name_u]Ottie[/name_u] could work as a nn for [name_f]Odette[/name_f], as it does contain a T sound. Besides [name_u]Ottie[/name_u], I think [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] could be sweet nns for [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] as well.
