This is getting ridiculous. There are several lovely feminine forms of [name]Felix[/name], and there is absolutely no need to use the masculine form.
There is actually a female contestant named [name]Felix[/name] on this season of Master Chef. The name is all boy to me but it does actually suit her.
No way, it truly is ridiculous.
I just don’t get this whole “Oh, let’s make ALL boys’ names girls’ names!”.
You probably wouldn’t name your son [name]Claudia[/name] or [name]Lily[/name], so why would anyone want to name their daughter [name]Felix[/name], [name]Caesar[/name] or [name]Isaac[/name]? I just don’t get it…
I’ve met a [name]Felixa[/name] and found it charming and exotic. If you like x names for a girl, I’ve also met a Rixa, but that’s neither here nor there. Regardless, I agree that some of the posters in this thread are being unkind. You can all get your same points across without being rude or degrading.
I was in the library while reading this post. It made me say out loud “Oh my god, no!” And I really like unisex names. Unisex. Surnames work for boys and girls. Occupation names work for boys and girls. Classical boy names are classical boy names and no girl names. So no [name]James[/name], no [name]Maxwell[/name], no [name]Felix[/name]. You wouldn’t call a boy [name]Amelia[/name] oder [name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Lily[/name], would you?
Sorry, [name]Felicia[/name], [name]Felizia[/name], [name]Felicitas[/name], even [name]Felixia[/name] are good alternatives.
My sister had a friend named [name]Felicity[/name] but everyone always called her [name]Felix[/name]. It didn’t seem weird (and she wasn’t a tomboy). So I think its viable as a girl’s name, but you could always play it safe and just use it as a nickname.
The thought of [name]Felix[/name] as a girl’s name makes me want to puke. I thought a masculine name like [name]Felix[/name] would be safe from the “cross-over”. If it’s not, I guess nothing’s safe.
Please, please leave it for the boys! Go with [name]Felicity[/name].
Good God, people, don’t you know the quickest way to kill a forum is to make people feel like @ssholes for asking a question? What gives you the right to tell someone she’s ridiculous, that her name choice makes you want to puke, etc.? Get over yourselves. Maybe your name choices make HER want to puke, only she’s too polite to say so. I’m one more tacky post away from leaving this site forever.
Thank you for saying this. Exactly what I was thinking.
I would do the opposite of whatever the rude posts say - because I don’t take the advice of those who aren’t respectful. Next, they’ll be telling you that certain letters aren’t “feminine” enough and should be omitted completely from girls’ names. I happen to like [name]Felix[/name] for a girl. It’s spunky and I’m certain it will have nothing to do with whether she wears bows in her hair or not. Go for it!
@ Melissa2 - agreed! And although I prefer [name]Felix[/name] on a boy and love names like [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Felicia[/name] for girls but that is my own personal preference, there is no need to bash another’s taste in names. I suppose this forum has established that the name won’t go very well with some people, but if you love the name go for it nothing else should really matter. I do agree with others that a feminine middle name would compliment it though e.g [name]Felix[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name]
[name]Felix[/name] to me is a boy’s name and should not be put on a girl unless you plan on naming your boy [name]Rebecca[/name]…
[name]Felix[/name] also reminds me of the black and white cat, so to me it’s more of a pet name for a cat… but if the name was to be used, I would expect it to be on a boy.
[name]Felix[/name] is a no for me. [name]Felicity[/name] is a yes.
In our musical last year, the character of [name]Felix[/name] was played by a girl. It was really cute, I thought, and I wouldn’t be opposed to it.
I won’t be rude as some of the other posters were but I don’t like [name]Felix[/name] on either a girl or a boy, personally. But hey, if you like it go for it. There have been many names traditionally for males that are now common female names.
I like [name]Faustina[/name]/[name]Fausta[/name] (similar Latin origin; same meaning) and [name]Felice[/name]/[name]Felicia[/name] (same origin).
[name]Just[/name] my opinion, of course… but if I was going to name my kid [name]Felixia[/name] ANYWAY, I don’t understand why [name]Felix[/name] is objectionable? I adore the idea of a little girl named [name]Felix[/name]… I’d probably call her Fi for short (as in ‘fee’) and give her a very feminine middle name for balance.
Given that my other favourite girl’s name at the moment is [name]Harper[/name], I think [name]Felix[/name] fits in very well. It’s all about what YOU like at the end of the day.
I don’t particularly like the idea. But I don’t particularly like the name itself.
Some of these comments have been a bit…sharp in response. But I don’t see why everyone has to be fluffy and lovely if they genuinely hate the idea. The op merely asked do people think it would work. Clearly a fair few feel passionately it won’t. I don’t see why people get offended and START USING CAPS!
I dont’ see [name]Felix[/name] working for a girl. I know a boy named [name]Felix[/name], and there’s [name]Felix[/name] the cat, so I doubt I could see it for a girl. But at the end of the day, it’s what you love. That’s just my opinion.

Actually, I think it’s a little more about the child and how the name will affect their lives, since they’re the one who will have to live with it, not the parent. [name]Just[/name] throwing that out there.
I don’t think it works - [name]IMO[/name].
