I don’t dislike it on either gender, although I prefer it on a boy. But I’m so sorry it just reminds me of a cat name, and I can’t get past that to even consider naming my child that.
I can see it, but would rather use it as a nickname for [name]Felice[/name]/[name]Felicity[/name]/[name]Felicia[/name]. That way she isn’t stuck with a tomboyish name if that isn’t what she wants
We really had to resurrect this thread again?
Not a fan of [name]Felix[/name] on a girl.
Um, Nah. [name]Don[/name]'t like it; I see it as an animal name. Sorry/
Hmm. [name]Felix[/name] is originally a Latin adjective, and Latin adjectives usually have a masculine and a feminine form - such as [name]Albus[/name] and [name]Alba[/name]. Naming a girl [name]Albus[/name] would be a little silly. [name]Felix[/name], however, is actually both the masculine and the feminine form. So linguistically, it’s not such a ridiculous idea at all.
I think if it’s your favorite name, use it! Lots of people will tell you that it’s a “boy” name, but plenty of names cross over, or just become and stay unisex, and it has to start somewhere, so it might as well be with your baby. [name]Plenty[/name] of girls were in the first batch of Leslies and Lindsays and they turned out fine. Besides, the commenters who are telling you that it’s awful and too masculine will just be stuffy old people while your child is in school, and she’ll be with plenty of classmates with non-traditional names for their gender. She’ll be fine! [name]Felix[/name] isn’t one of my favorites but I don’t think something ridiculous like gender stereotypes should stop you from using it!
There was a woman named [name]Felix[/name] on Masterchef… the name didn’t seem all that out-of-place, which is rather surprising. Still, I think it’s much better as a boys’ name.
Hmmm - [name]Felix[/name] is just as ugly on a girl now as it was 6 MONTHS AGO when this thread was made.
As long as we’re being jerky about timeliness, this thread was actually first started in [name]March[/name] 2010 – 2 years, 5 months ago (almost to the day).
Pointing out that people are responding to an old thread is always a fun way to mock newbies or people who don’t think to check dates before replying, isn’t it? Of course, the flip side is that thoughts on this topic are just as relevant now as they were 2.5 years ago. Not to the thread starter, of course (who probably hightailed it outta here immediately due to such scathing responses), but to readers who’ve thought about the same name, or even similar ones.
Though then I suppose I’d have to argue that responses like “________ is an ugly name” are relevant/constructive in the first place.
The fact you even took time to respond is amusing.
Aw good, always glad to amuse! Sad to see that that’s all you could take from it, but amusement in and of itself is worth a lot.
I like it. It’s on my list for a girl.
[name]Felix[/name] is near the top of our list for a girl name. We got the idea from watching master chef, where one of the female contestants was named [name]Felix[/name]: http://www.fox.com/masterchef/_ugc/images/extras/wallpapers/mc_wallpaper_1280x1024__0012_felix.jpg
Also, [name]Allyson[/name] [name]Felix[/name] rocked the Olympics. I know [name]Felix[/name] is her last name, but still a cool association.
Found this thread and was surprised to see the overall negative feedback regarding the name. Perhaps the world isn’t ready for the crossover name, but I think it would work, especially for a sporty/active girl.
[name]Felix[/name] is top of my list for a girl. It was my second choice but my husband loves it!
I don’t like it.
It is such a masculine name to my ears. There are plenty of fabulous unisex names that you could use - [name]Rowan[/name] is the one that springs to my mind - and lots of beautiful feminine names. If you like [name]Felix[/name]'s meaning, why not use [name]Felicity[/name]?
NO! [name]Felix[/name] is a masculine name. [name]Felicia[/name] would be a female version. For people who understand languages with gender it’d be like naming your daughter [name]Man[/name]. Or something to that effect.
I agree. [name]Felix[/name] is a male name - why use it on a girl when there are plenty of lovely feminine versions; [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Felicia[/name], [name]Felicitas[/name]…
According to this link, the latin word [name]Felix[/name] is both the masculine and feminine form of the word: Felix - The Latin Dictionary
Agreed that culture associates [name]Felix[/name] as masculine. I’m not a language expert, so perhaps there is more to the matter, but sounds like [name]Felix[/name] is a unisex Latin word.
That is an awful idea. [name]Felix[/name] is as masculine as it gets.
