four month old's name- want new suggestions

So, it came down to [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Thea[/name]. Although I’m settled on [name]Blythe[/name], DH had a turn of emotion and says not really liking [name]Blythe[/name] anymore. [name]Thea[/name] isn’t it for me. We’re both so worn of looking for names. I don’t know what else to do. I’m going to just settle on [name]Thea[/name] for DH, but I wanted to give it one last shot at finding the perfect name that we both love.

Someone in a previous post offered to try to help us make a new list…Can you help?

Here’s what I’m looking for, and things that we’ve used to look for names…

  • I love nature names.
  • DH loves classic eastern european and greek names ([name]Phaedra[/name], [name]Nadia[/name], [name]Althea[/name]…) *we are neither eastern european or greek…
  • We both agree she needs a shorter name to balance the long double barrel last name
  • We want a name with a strong meaning.
  • She is a happy and light soul. We would both love to have a name that reflects this without being too cutesy.
  • She has beautiful eyes
  • Want a unique name. Prefer not on the top 1000, but certainly not in the top 50.
  • Her mn is [name]Miriam[/name]
  • Her last name is similar to [name]Jackson[/name]-[name]Ford[/name]
  • I don’t want the nn’s [name]Addy[/name], [name]Maddy[/name] or [name]Cori[/name]
  • I she had been a boy, her name would have been either [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vail[/name] or [name]Lucien[/name] ([name]Luca[/name]) [name]Vail[/name]. (it was so strange- we agreed on [name]EVERY[/name] boy name we talked about… how is it that girl names are like night and day to us!!!)

Here was our last long list, to give you an idea of naming style
[name]Cora[/name]/[name]Coral[/name]/[name]Coraline[/name] (I just CANT dig [name]Cori[/name])

I love the names [name]Thea[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Vada[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] & [name]Lark[/name] from your list. Good luck!

I only have a couple of suggestions how about

[name]Lucia[/name] (pn lou-chee-ah) meaning light

[name]Halcyon[/name] (pn hal-cee-yon) - greek, meaning Kingfisher and calm & tranquil, doesn’t go so well with [name]Miriam[/name] though x

You’ve probably answered this in your other threads, but what are you calling her at home? What do you refer to her as?

If you both liked [name]Luca[/name], it has been used as a girls’ name and I think it’s very sweet, I don’t know how you feel about that…

I’m going to think hard about this and try to come up with a list. Be back.

Thank you!
Although I know that [name]Luca[/name] can be used as girl name, seems all boy to me.

As to what we call her- pet names mostly love, sweetheart, pretty eyes…
My friends call her [name]Billie[/name] [name]Jean[/name]. Because I’m a big michael jackson freak :stuck_out_tongue: (and, no, although we very briefly considered it, I don’t want to actually name her [name]Billie[/name] [name]Jean[/name])

Here are a few suggestions … [name]Don[/name]'t worry – your daughter will have a name someday soon.

[name]Allegra[/name] (happy meaning)
[name]Alouette[/name] (lark in French)
[name]Amabel[/name] (beloved child)
[name]Apolline[/name] (Greek in origin, I believe)
[name]Aria[/name] (possibly Eastern European & a happy, uplifting meaning)
[name]Athena[/name] (another Greek goddess)
[name]Aura[/name] (happy feeling name)
[name]Bambi[/name] (I know someone with this name, so not just a disney character)
[name]Delphine[/name] (Greek)
[name]Echo[/name] (Greek)
[name]Felice[/name] (happy meaning, like [name]Blythe[/name])
[name]Hero[/name] (Greek)
[name]Joy[/name] (very happy-sounding name, lovely)
[name]Jule[/name] (variation on your original [name]Jewel[/name])
[name]Leda[/name] (Greek name, mother of [name]Helen[/name] of [name]Troy[/name])
[name]Sibyl[/name] (Greek origin, I believe … there are a variety of spellings)
[name]Thyme[/name] (double entendre of the herb + passage of time)

Best wishes to you and your family.

Hmm, okay, no [name]Luca[/name]. I searched through Greek names and nature names and here’s what I came up with. I really hope you find something.

[name]Thea[/name], I assume you use the TH sound like in “the.”

[name]Do[/name] you like T”a better?

[name]Anais[/name] (gracious)
[name]Ines[/name] (pure)
[name]Vera[/name]/[name]Viera[/name] (faith/truth)
[name]Eden[/name] (place of pleasure, delight)
[name]Amaris[/name] ([name]Lovely[/name] forever)

[name]Just[/name] some ideas! Good luck!

Maybe you’re right to step back and kind of start over. I hope we can help!

[name]Ione[/name] - I like the ie-O-nee prn for you (instead of ie-ON). meaning: From the Greek ion meaning “violet flower”. This was the name of a sea nymph in Greek mythology. (from
[name]Ione[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Jackson[/name]-[name]Ford[/name] - I think it’s lovely. [name]Ione[/name] is Greek-based, so it might appeal to your dh; it has a lovely meaning (maybe not quite as strong a meaning as some of your previous choices but nice); is nature-related; and is related to the sea which evokes tranquility.

I’ll come back if I think of more!

Thanks again! Okay, I want to know what others think… I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Aster[/name] and [name]Astrid[/name]. So does DH. However, we decided that the obviously shortening to a three letter word was a terribly mean thing to do to her… What does everyone else think?

Like [name]Thalia[/name] alot. Similar to [name]Thea[/name], but with a bit more to it and without the pn issues. That might be a good one.

That’s a great list, thanks
I actually like the “th” pn best of [name]Thea[/name].
Its funny how many of the names you just listed we seriously considered or have family named…

I have twin neices named [name]Amaris[/name] and [name]Anais[/name]
BF’s 6 month old is [name]Iris[/name] (too bad, I really like it)
I fought really hard for [name]Eden[/name]. [name]LOVE[/name] it. DH just doesn’t. At all. I tried.
[name]Vera[/name] might be worth consideration, although I’ve not been able to get rid of the [name]Vera[/name] Wang connection in my own head, even.

Sorry for repeats–

I like the suggestion of [name]Thalia[/name], too!

I love [name]Ione[/name] too and like it pronounced eye-oh-nee.

I’ll suggest a few and apologize for repeats. Great minds do think alike

[name]Anya[/name] or [name]Anja[/name] -both are pronounced the same
[name]Danica[/name] - morning star
[name]Josephine[/name] - [name]Joseph[/name] was [name]Michael[/name] Jacksons mn. I had to look that up, nn [name]Posey[/name] or [name]Josie[/name].
[name]Fiora[/name] or a form [name]Flora[/name]
[name]Flora[/name] nn [name]Florrie[/name]
[name]Hilde[/name] - hill-dee
[name]Linnet[/name] - a little bird.
[name]Zara[/name] - “eastern brightness, dawn”

I think it’s great that you’re taking a break from the [name]Thea[/name]/[name]Blythe[/name] debate - might be just what you need. So here are some suggestions from me (apologies in advance for any repeats).

Names with a similar sense of history to [name]Thea[/name]:
Arinna (Hittite sun goddess)
[name]Halia[/name] (nameberry has this as Hawaiian, but I know it as the Greek personification of the saltiness of the sea)
[name]Phoebe[/name] (Greek moon goddess)
[name]Thalia[/name] (one of the Greek graces, represents good cheer)
[name]Thora[/name] (Norse thunder goddess)

Names that have happy, light associations like [name]Blythe[/name] or [name]Lark[/name]:

Names that mean precious or associate with gems and precious stones:

Names with the -ora ending:

Finally, a few names with classical Greek origins:

I wonder if [name]Thalia[/name] or [name]Thora[/name] don’t combine everything you are looking for. But if not, hopefully you’ll find something else here that you like.
Best of luck!

Is [name]Fiona[/name] too Shrek-y?

[name]Hi[/name] there! I’m glad you decided to start a new list, because I’d hate for you to settle on a name you don’t love.

[name]Arista[/name] (Greek name, close to [name]Astrid[/name] and [name]Aster[/name] without the ass teasing potential)
[name]Calla[/name] (Greek floral name)
[name]Delphine[/name] (French–from Greek-- floral name)
[name]Evanthe[/name] (Greek floral name, nickname [name]Evie[/name] or [name]Thea[/name] for your husband)
[name]Elodie[/name] (French floral name)
[name]Lilou[/name] (floral name)
[name]Linnea[/name] (blossom)

About [name]Astrid[/name]: I do think that “A$$” teasing may occur, and I believe that on the TV show “The Office,” this name was recently made fun of, along the lines of “a$$ turd.” :frowning:
I think it’s a beautiful name, though, and I just wanted to respond to your question about teasing.

I know you’ll find the perfect name, and we’ll all be here for you on until you do!

Good luck!

[name]Calla[/name]!!! Great suggestion, [name]Jill[/name].

It’s beautiful, Greek, floral, goes with her personality and is short.

I also like [name]Mabel[/name], but I’m partial.

I think [name]Calla[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] is gorgeous!

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Calla[/name]!
