I am playing with the idea of honoring my great-grandfather when naming my next child. I’ve always loved the idea of using [name]George[/name] as a middle name for a girl. If people are using [name]James[/name] and [name]Jones[/name] now, why not [name]George[/name]? His full name was [name]George[/name] [name]Lester[/name]. So, [name]George[/name] for a girl? Would love to hear suggestions for either a boy or girl that will honor my grandpa. Also, he had 2 mother’s and their names were [name]Addie[/name] and [name]Grace[/name], his father’s name was also [name]George[/name]. First name if we have a girl will most likely be either [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name] or [name]Lyla[/name] and we like [name]Jack[/name] or [name]Jackson[/name] for a boy but we’re open to suggestions.
As a middle name, I think it’s fine for a girl. [name]Plenty[/name] of girls have boys names as middle names. I like [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]George[/name]! Some feminine forms of [name]George[/name] are [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Georgiana[/name], [name]Georgeanne[/name] / Georgiane and [name]Georgette[/name]. You could also put in a second middle name, like [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Lyla[/name] [name]George[/name] [surname].
I think it’s sweet you want to honor your grandpa, but why not use one of the feminine forms of [name]George[/name]?
I personally don’t approve of using obvious and traditional boy names for girls. Here’s the feminine forms of [name]George[/name]:
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Georgette[/name]
I think [name]George[/name] would be fine in the middle. In my mind, mns should be connected to family as much as possible, but anything’s fair game.
I actually really like the ring of [name]Sadie[/name] [name]George[/name] or [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]George[/name]. Would you use it for [name]Jack[/name] or [name]Jackson[/name] if you have a boy? If so, I definitely prefer it with [name]Jackson[/name], but it’s a little harsh to my ear either way.
I think it’s fine in the middle, especially since it’s honoring. I second the love for [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]George[/name]! That’s a really fantastic combo.
my dad is called george, and my mum used georgia as my sisters middle name so she could be called after my dad.
making it georgia made it more girly.
I wouldn’t usually be in favour of using obvious boy’s names as middles for girls: [name]James[/name] etc however i think [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]George[/name] sounds adorable. And the name [name]George[/name] has always had a cutsie sounding in my mind
I think [name]George[/name] would work in the middle spot for a girl, a friend of mine’s middle name is [name]Charles[/name] after her father. You might also consider the nickname [name]Georgie[/name] in the middle spot. [name]Lyla[/name] [name]Georgie[/name] sounds really sweet and cute or even [name]Georgie[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. Here is a link to a list of international variations of George (just an idea) 64 International Variations of George | Nameberry
I"m thinking of using [name]James[/name] as the middle name if I have a girl with this pregnancy to honor grandpa and dad. I say go for [name]George[/name]! Nameberry boards are very split on boy names for girls. People either love it or hate it with all their might. [name]Do[/name] what you want.
I’m so glad to hear a positive response from you guys on [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]George[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name] [name]George[/name]. I think I love it. I just wasn’t sure if it would be too weird. I also liked mrstaylor’s [name]Lyla[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] suggestions. I considered using [name]Addie[/name]-[name]Grace[/name] as a middle name but I think I love [name]George[/name].
Why not give your daughter a name that’s the feminine form of [name]George[/name]? My middle name is [name]Lee[/name], and although it’s not completely masculine like [name]George[/name], I HATE feeling like I have a masculine middle name. I was always embarrassed to share my middle name. I don’t think it would be terrible if you put it in the middle, but I’m just giving you some insight from a girl who grew up with a masculine name in the middle.
[name]Sadie[/name] [name]George[/name] is cute! I think the masculine form is fine in the middle and more playful sounding than strange. That said, [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] is very pretty, I guess you need to consider whether it means the same to you to honor your great grandfather with the feminine form of his name rather than the exact name.
I would have been a little worried if you were considering as a first name (I love [name]George[/name] from [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Drew[/name] as much as the next girl, but if I remember correctly, her name was also [name]Georgia[/name]!)
I think it’s a great MN option for you.
[name]George[/name] is all boy for me. My plea would be to please, oh please, oh please use [name]Georgia[/name] instead. [name]Georgia[/name] is fabulous!
I’m a bit confused as to why you’d go for [name]George[/name] when the feminine form [name]Georgia[/name] is so accessible.
I don’t really see why you’d use [name]George[/name] rather than [name]Georgia[/name],[name]Georgina[/name] or even [name]Georgiana[/name]. It’s a bit like being too literal to use [name]George[/name] on a girl in my opinion.
[name]Don[/name]'t like it.
It’s a boy’s name, whether it’s in the middle name spot or not, and given that there are several feminine forms there is no reason to use [name]George[/name] in its masculine form.
I want to say no but as a huge [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Drew[/name] fan I can’t because [name]George[/name] and [name]Bess[/name] were her best friends and I never questioned the name when reading the books. I do think her name was actually [name]Georgia[/name] which I like better, I say use [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Georgianna[/name], etc with the option of [name]George[/name] as a mn.
[name]George[/name] for a girl is really, really terrible and taking the trend way off the deep end. [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Georgina[/name], [name]Georgiana[/name]…all beautiful choices, there really isn’t a need to use [name]George[/name] for a girl.
I’d like to echo mrstaylor and say that [name]Georgie[/name] is darling for a girl. And let me tell you why: [name]Georgie[/name] [name]Henley[/name] from the [name]Narnia[/name] movies is absolutely darling. Isn’t she? She turned me onto the name and now I find it fresh and sweet. I don’t care for [name]George[/name] for a girl one bit, but [name]Georgie[/name] definitely has a place in my list of favorites.
