Girl Names in Top 500 (never in top 100) pt. 2

Names that have never been in the top 100 but are currently in the top 500 (this information comes from SSA 2018 list). The 2019 information has of right now not been released so this is as current as I can get! I’m putting their current rank, and the highest they’ve ever been plus the year that happened! For some of them, 2018 is their highest year. All these names have not been in the top 100 since at least 1880.

I know! So many beautiful names on this list! Here’s hoping that they stay not too popular!

I like this sweet spot of well-established but never overly-popular names! I’m not against popular names (some of my favorites are in the top 10), but I do prefer names to be a little less common.

My favorites from this list are [name_u]Presley[/name_u], [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], [name_u]Marley[/name_u], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_f]Catalina[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].

I’m surprised that [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], and [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] haven’t been in the top 100! They feel more common than they are, I guess. With [name_f]Lila[/name_f] it might be the multiple spellings, too, that make it seem more popular.

Oops the [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] on this list is actually “[name_f]Brooklynn[/name_f]”! I’m going to correct it now but I think my laptop fixed it by accident! [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] with one N is in the top 100!

Fiona is the surprise to me in this list.

I am sad that [name_f]Hope[/name_f], one of my favorite names, has never made the top 100. I will have to do my best to help [name_f]Hope[/name_f] up the charts

I am also a bit surprised that perhaps [name_f]Leia[/name_f] never made the top 100 with [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars being so popular. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it would have been more popular for boys than girls back in the 1970s, you might have thought father’s would be pushing for [name_f]Leia[/name_f]’s as daughters.

I thought the same about [name_f]Leia[/name_f]! But actually it’s never been higher than it has in the last 5 years! I think that dads were able to get away with [name_m]Luke[/name_m] as it’s a biblical name but something like [name_f]Leia[/name_f] was more unique at the time and moms knew instantly that it was a pop-culture name!

That’s probably a very good point and perhaps the mom’s back then were less invested in movies and pop culture like [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars than they might be today.
