I recently picked up a new-to-me baby name book at my favorite used bookstore a couple weeks ago—thought maybe it’d be fun to share it with y’all! This book specifically has the baby names, a short section on the meaning/origin, and then the larger section has a “spiritual meaning” (which I don’t think is necessarily for one faith, some of them are things like “intuitive perception”, “seeker of wisdom”, “prosperous” etc.), and then also a Bible verse (which is obviously tied to more specific faith journeys).
I thought it might be fun if y’all gave me some criteria (anything, really! Number of letters, origin, literary name, etc., even specify a specific name if there’s one you’d like to see the information for?), and specify if you want the Bible verse too (don’t want to push that specifically on anyone not interested!), and I’ll respond back with a name from the baby name book and the rest of the information they provide in the book!
I can’t guarantee everything is accurate etymologically, but I thought it would be fun to explore anyway, and thought some of you might like to join along.
Thanks, berries!
ETA: I’m rather enjoying looking for your criteria in this book, so if anyone wants to come back for seconds, that’s 100% okay with me
Your name is [name_f]Amada[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]. According to this, [name_f]Amadea[/name_f] and [name_f]Amadia[/name_f] are related variants, all meaning [name_f]Beloved[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] The spiritual connotation is cherished[name_f][/name_f].
Ephesians 5:29-30: “For no one ever hates his own body, but he nourishes and tenderly cares for it, just as [name_m]Christ[/name_m] does for the church, because we are members of His body.”
I’d love a bible verse too!! [name_f]My[/name_f] life verse is [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] 29:11 but no worries if there’s nothing for that specific verse hehe
Romans 8:28 [name_f][/name_f]— “But we do know that all things work together for good according to those who love [name_m]God[/name_m], to those who are called according to purpose.” [name_f][/name_f]Philippians 4:13 [name_f][/name_f]— “I have strength for all things in him that gives me power.” [name_f][/name_f]Proverbs 31:25 – “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laugheth at the coming day.”
How cool! I don’t really care about letters & such. Anything you think fits the vibe of my kiddos names
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
I n d i g o & S o l o m o n
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
would be interesting or just a name that stood out to you personally [name_f][/name_f] I’ll take a verse [name_f][/name_f] Thanks, [name_m]Ash[/name_m]!
it’s mine too! [name_f][/name_f] this is the first verse i ever memorized as a child, it means so much to me!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
what a fun idea! i’d love a name that’s 4-8 letters long and is of cornish origin if possible, and i’d love a Bible verse [name_f][/name_f]some verses i love and would love to know if a name is attached are nehemiah 9:6, psalm 23:1-4, joshua 1:9, or galatians 1:10!
hmmm i’d be interested to see a boy name that is two syllables, with a nature-y, or soft meaning, without being an outward “nature” name! i’m not religious, but i would be interested to read the bible verse nonetheless!!
Fun! [name_f][/name_f] You had me SEARCHING for [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] 29:11 [name_f][/name_f] I wish they included an index with what page you could find Bible verses on!
[name_f][/name_f]
Your nature name:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Ocean[/name_m] (and the related Oceana!), meaning sea[name_f][/name_f]. The spiritual connotation is praise[name_f][/name_f].
“By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O [name_m]God[/name_m] of our salvation, You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea.” [name_m]Psalm[/name_m] 65:5
[name_f][/name_f]
When I saw this was the verse for [name_m]Ocean[/name_m], I couldn’t help myself! [name_f][/name_f] I have loved this verse for years!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
Also giving you your [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] 29:11 name as a bonus:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Rafer[/name_m] (or Rafar, though behind the name says [name_m]Rafer[/name_m] is related to Rafferty!), meaning prosperous[name_f][/name_f], having the spiritual connotation of gifted[name_f][/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] And if you’re curious, [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] and [name_m]Vladimir[/name_m] were the names listed for [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] 29:12 and 13, respectively!
“And the peace of [name_m]God[/name_m], which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in [name_m]Christ[/name_m] Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
I’ll take anything that follows the pattern of consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel-double consonant-vowel[name_f][/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
Also I’m a little confused, I thought you were offering[name_f][/name_f] Bible verses but now everyone is giving you[name_f][/name_f] Bible verses instead? [name_f][/name_f] I’ll take one, but if you need one I can give you [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] 1:5!
Wow, what awesome names! [name_m]Ocean[/name_m] / [name_f]Oceana[/name_f] is very fitting since I’m from Oceania!! These are so beautiful, and I also am a huge fan of [name_m]Psalm[/name_m] 65:5. Thank you so much!
Fun!! I’d like a girls name that is a little clunky and vintage, maybe with a cool meaning or literary tie! Something you would find on a family tree that is an undiscovered gem. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I’m not religious, I’d be interested to read a verse as well! Thank you!
