I hadn’t thought about [name_f]Carly[/name_f] also being a nickname for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! I like [name_f]Callie[/name_f] too!
[name_u]Remy[/name_u] would be lovely (as in [name_m]Remington[/name_m])
can’t you convince hubby that the gun name is best in the middle spot just like brother???
Benelli- (gun manufacturer), nn [name_f]Elli[/name_f], [name_f]Nelli[/name_f]
Carabine- named after Carabine à tige, nn [name_f]Cara[/name_f]
Melonite- (finish for guns) nn Mely
Tennifer- (finish for guns) nn [name_m]Tenny[/name_m]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]- goddess of wisdom, war strategy, and arts and crafts; nn Thena, [name_f]Thea[/name_f]
Maybe some names you can get from here: List of women warriors in folklore - Wikipedia
I would probably stay away from Magnum as a first name because of the condom reference. What about having the gun/“cool” name be put in the middle instead of as the first name?
lol or what about why not name her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and have the nickname be Magnum? or name her [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and have the nickname be [name_m]Cannon[/name_m]?? [name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] for the Winchester rifle?
or go by name meaning… [name_f]Alessia[/name_f] means defending warrior.
Anyone with an IQ would see that giving a child a name like Magnum would be giving them a disadvantage in life… maybe compromise with the thought that if he truly wants a gun word name that is so “out there” then it has to be in the middle spot for her futures sake!!
A gun/“cool” name definitely has to be a first name. [name_u]Remy[/name_u]/[name_m]Remington[/name_m] is definitely all boy to me which is why I don’t like it. I haven’t gone through all of the names on the link but I’ll definitely go more in depth and see if there are any I like/would suggest to my husband!
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] are not full names to either of us which is why they would only be considered for nicknames. I like the idea of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]/[name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] but I don’t like that actual name. I’ve found some names that will possibly work so it’s not impossible. It’s not an option for her middle name to be a gun/“cool” name and I’d really appreciate it if that would stop being pushed for.
What about a unisex name like [name_m]Cooper[/name_m] (a rifle maker) or [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] (BB gun)?? Too boyish?? Here is a site with gun names:
http://www.babynamewizard.com/archives/2014/3/son-of-a-gun-the-firearms-baby-name-report
What about ammo manufacturers?
[name_m]Army[/name_m]
[name_u]Dakota[/name_u]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f]
Weatherby
Too out there?? I know I’m reaching….
I was able to go through the list of women warriors more thoroughly and was able to find some! I think I have a pretty decent list I can share with my husband-
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] “[name_f]Lily[/name_f]” ([name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m])
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] “[name_m]Arrow[/name_m]/[name_f]Carly[/name_f]/[name_f]Callie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] “[name_u]Scout[/name_u]/[name_f]Carly[/name_f]”
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] “[name_f]Cora[/name_f]/[name_f]Delia[/name_f]” ([name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f])
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] “[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]” ([name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f])
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f]” ([name_f]Joanna[/name_f] of Flanders)
[name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] “[name_f]Lana[/name_f]” ([name_f]Atalanta[/name_f]; but it may be too different with [name_m]Jax[/name_m]'s name)
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] “[name_f]Emmy[/name_f]/[name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Milly[/name_f]” ([name_f]Emilia[/name_f] Plater)
And I’m still unsure about [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] because of [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] but I suppose I’d rather that association than any of the ones my husband likes…
I just looked up a list of ‘firearm brands’ and they had some pretty & feminine names on there including…
Arrieta
[name_f]Aya[/name_f]
Or some different pistols…
[name_f]Astra[/name_f]
[name_u]Jericho[/name_u]
[name_f]Kimber[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
Gods/[name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of hunting…
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] -Greek
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]- [name_m]Roman[/name_m]
Devana- Slavic
Or if your husbands into bow hunting you could consider names from some of the Archery brands including…
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Arizona[/name_f] ([name_f]Arizona[/name_f] Rim Country)
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] ([name_f]Autumn[/name_f] Warriors outdoors)
[name_u]Genesis[/name_u]
I’m not a hunter nor do I know how good these brands are or how commonly they’re used but at least you have some other options
When I looked up gun names I found [name_f]Kimber[/name_f]. I guess that may be a brand of guns, sorry I’m not that familiar with brands.
[name_f]Kimber[/name_f] could have the nickname [name_u]Kim[/name_u] or [name_f]Kimmy[/name_f], or you could call her Bur for a more unique nickname!
What about Arrieta? It offers nickname [name_f]Etta[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Diana[/name_f] “[name_f]Annie[/name_f]”! Would [name_f]Diana[/name_f] be too “old” next to [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]?
Something about [name_f]Arietta[/name_f] is off to me; I think it’s the “[name_f]Etta[/name_f]” part which I don’t like the sound or look of
You could call her [name_f]Katniss[/name_f].
Or not.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] - definitely too strong a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection for me. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]? nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f] or [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]? Still has the connections [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] has, but no negative connection and super cool nn. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a really cool name. Or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] nn [name_u]Tris[/name_u] like the girl from Divergent.
[name_f]IMO[/name_f] you should share the list with your husband asap so you can get us some feedback and we can keep working! We may be totally off track here, and really, almost anything is better than [name_f]Bloodrayne[/name_f] or something. Does he like Game of Thrones? [name_m]How[/name_m] about the name [name_u]Arya[/name_u] (or [name_f]Aria[/name_f])? That’s a pretty cool name and she is good with a sword. nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u] or [name_f]Ria[/name_f].
I googled female gun names. You can do it too. I found names [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (nn Daze). Lady [name_m]Smith[/name_m] - you could name her [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] nn Lady. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]? [name_u]Parker[/name_u]? [name_m]Rossi[/name_m] - how about [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]? [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u] after [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Colt[/name_m]. Or, how about Robin like Robin Hood! I know a Robin who spells her name Robyn.
I like the idea of [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] “Lady”! I’ve always been put off by [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] because I really don’t like “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]” but Lady is pretty cute! Neither of us have watched Gamed of Thrones (though I’ve heard about it), [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is cute ([name_u]Arya[/name_u] is too close to [name_m]Aryan[/name_m] for me) but I don’t like [name_u]Ari[/name_u] or [name_f]Ria[/name_f] as nicknames. When my husband gets home I will definitely share my list with him and get back to all of you!
Not much to add except that I like [name_m]Cannon[/name_m]. It’s really not bad at all. I also like Winchester nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]
Since he’s open to non-gun names like [name_m]Midnight[/name_m], you might find more options there. [name_m]Midnight[/name_m] is not so bad, though it sounds a bit like a cat. Does he have
a fave season? What about [name_u]Winter[/name_u]? [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is a beautiful name and if he likes the season… you might be okay. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Stone[/name_m]? Nickname [name_m]Stoney[/name_m]? I just think [name_m]Stone[/name_m] fits with the vibe of [name_m]Cannon[/name_m] and he might like it. [name_m]Stone[/name_m] would be a really interesting name for a girl.
Your husband giving her her name is what’s beautiful. I know we are all name nerds here… but don’t lose sight of that.
You know what I actually have twin cousins, [name_m]Midnight[/name_m] and [name_f]Starlight[/name_f], but those are their middle names, they have ‘normal’ first names. Either way, they’re a lot better than [name_m]Cannon[/name_m] or Magnum so I’d really consider using [name_m]Midnight[/name_m]!
I’m not normally a fan of boy names on girls, but in this case, how about [name_m]Archer[/name_m] nn [name_m]Archie[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like that name? Not exactly a ‘gun’ name, but still.
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] (from Olympic Arms)
Saiga
[name_u]Joan[/name_u] - after [name_u]Joan[/name_u] of [name_m]Arc[/name_m]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - Calamity [name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s birth name
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] - [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] nn [name_f]Annie[/name_f] could honor the [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]
There are so many great suggestions! If you end up stuck I’d suggest asking your husband to think of what it is he loves about hunting. It has no appeal to me, but a lot of my relatives hunt. Although guns make DH think of hunting and marksmanship, the thing that he really loves probably isn’t the guns themselves. It’s being out in nature and feeling like a part of nature, or the pride in keeping still and hitting a difficult target. This might lead you more into nature names ([name_f]Autumn[/name_f], because it’s deer season, or [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] or [name_f]Ayala[/name_f], which mean gazelle). Or, as others suggested, the names for mythological or fictional characters connected with hunting, or of great historical markswomen. I think it’s quite possible to name a daughter after your husband’s love of hunting and shooting without naming her after a gun*.
- I’m not even saying that using the name of a gun model or company is the worst thing ever - it’s more just not my thing - but the problem is there are so few of them that make good girl names!
