I looked up famous women of the [name_m]Wild[/name_m] [name_u]West[/name_u]. Along with [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], mentioned by others, there were Calamity [name_f]Jane[/name_f] ([name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Canary[/name_f]), [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Dunn[/name_m], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_m]Hart[/name_m], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] Liddy [name_m]Watson[/name_m] (known as Cattle [name_f]Kate[/name_f]), [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] de[name_u]Vere[/name_u], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m], [name_f]Etta[/name_f] Place, [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Bullion, [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], [name_u]Charley[/name_u] Parkhurst, [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Starr[/name_f].
Congratulations on your little princess!
I am not too familiar with gun names as such, but would like to say that I love the suggestion of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Scout[/name_u]).
Some inspiration from the wild west - [name_f]Laura[/name_f] (bullion - known as the rose of the wild bunch and was a member of [name_m]Butch[/name_m] [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]'s gang); [name_f]Etta[/name_f] (Place); [name_u]Charley[/name_u] (Parkhurst); [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] - fell for [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] Earp and reportedly the cause of the gunfight at OK [name_f]Corral[/name_f]); [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Dunn[/name_m] (known as the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] of the [name_f]Cimarron[/name_f]); [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] (as a form of [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Starr[/name_f]).
As your husband is a keen hunter and outdoorsman perhaps a nature inspired name - [name_f]Fawn[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Zada[/name_f] (means huntress), [name_u]Avery[/name_u] (nn [name_m]Arrow[/name_m]?), [name_u]Echo[/name_u], [name_f]Deanna[/name_f] (means the archer), [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]/[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_u]Laken[/name_u]/Layken, [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_u]Skylar[/name_u]/[name_f]Skyla[/name_f]/[name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_u]Reed[/name_u] (deer spelled backwards?) and [name_u]River[/name_u].
Or perhaps [name_m]Huntley[/name_m]/[name_m]Huntleigh[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]) might work for your DH. Sorry for any repeats, and for stretching the name theme in some of my suggestions!
All the very best in your naming journey.
[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_f]Marine[/name_f]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u] (or [name_u]Scout[/name_u] as a nickname for another name, like in To Kill A Mockingbird?)
[name_u]Navy[/name_u]
Oh wow! I thought it was a typo and you meant “fun” names for girls! Ha!
I love the nicknames you have picked out, but oh I would personally not want to be named after a gun:/
I didn’t read the other replies but what about…
[name_u]Hunter[/name_u]? I actually think it’s cute for a girl & I generally don’t care for unisex names.
[name_m]Smith[/name_m]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] nn bee bee?!
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Beretta[/name_f] ?
Good luck!
Another [name_m]Wild[/name_m] [name_u]West[/name_u] name suggestion- [name_f]Pocahontas[/name_f] later took on the name [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] [name_m]Rolfe[/name_m] after marrying the Englishman [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Rolfe[/name_m], so [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is an idea. The actress who played her in the movie was [name_f]Irene[/name_f] Bedard, singing dubbed by [name_f]Judy[/name_f] Kuhn, but [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_f]Judy[/name_f] are rather dated…
I don’t know if anyone said it, but there’s also [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] (it means evening). It has some ties to [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bond[/name_m] and a ship in the two World Wars. HMS Vesper - Wikipedia
I actually find this concept kinda exciting. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are avid hunters, but he doesn’t share in my affinity for “hunter/gun-esque” names. I know all of these we’re already mentioned but just throwing my 2 cents in.
Winchester nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]- I had it on our list for our daughter. The name was kinda sentimental to me. A Winchester shotgun was a gift I received from my grandpa before he passed.
[name_m]Remington[/name_m] nn [name_u]Remy[/name_u]- I think this is adorable! And [name_u]Remy[/name_u] and [name_m]Jax[/name_m] to me sound too cute.
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]- don’t have any idea for a nn. But deer season is in the fall.
[name_f]Doe[/name_f]- Can’t do a nn with this one, would probably be more suited for a middle but stays with the hunting theme.
[name_f]Hennie[/name_f]- already a nickname name. And I’m thinking outside the box here, but I hear [name_f]Hennie[/name_f] and I think if a Turkey [name_f]Hen[/name_f]. Not my cup of tea but you might like it.
[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tiff[/name_f]/[name_f]Tiffy[/name_f]- kinda out of the trend in this day and age, but [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] from The Crush with [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] on the Outdoor [name_f]Channel[/name_f] is a pretty badass Lady [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] it helps. Personally I think I’d do a gun/hunting name as a middle like big bro though.
I agree with the previous post. [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] is a good name - hasn’t been popular in quite a while. I had also intially thought of [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] for [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] Bullets & [name_u]Remi[/name_u] for [name_m]Remington[/name_m] & [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] for Winchester.
Other possibles:
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] for caliper or caliber
[name_u]Joyce[/name_u] after the founder of Hornady bullets - [name_u]Joyce[/name_u] Hornady was a guy.
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] rifle
[name_f]Lilja[/name_f] - [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] barrels (pronounced [name_f]Lilya[/name_f])
[name_f]Dixie[/name_f] - good country southern name there.
[name_f]Kimber[/name_f] - a manufacturer of pistols & rifles. Also a shortened version of [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u].
Or you could a little creative & hide the gun reference in there (like [name_f]Kimber[/name_f] & [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]) or like [name_f]AIMee[/name_f].
Oh & then there’s [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] - the female version of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] ([name_m]Henry[/name_m] rifles).
[name_f]Do[/name_f] some digging on some gun/hunting forums & maybe you’ll find one you like. That’s what I just did for some of these since hubby wasn’t available. lol
I knew a family with a hunting theme with their kids’ names. They had [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] and [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] and their story was you hunt in the autumn (fall)! Maybe suggest [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] with that story?
I think all these ideas are classic and pretty. You’ve got great taste in names… put your foot down with your husband! Also, something else to consider is that not everywhere is as accepting as guns as where you live may be, so you wouldn’t want your daughter to be pre-judged based on her name should she pursue opportunities away from home. That being said, a spunky middle name would be adorable and a great story.
Thanks everyone! Sorry I didn’t respond to any of you earlier, it’s been a busy day! I was able to casually throw out some of the suggestions and he actually liked some!!! (Sorry, got a little excited there)
He likes [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] “[name_f]Annie[/name_f]” and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] “[name_m]Arrow[/name_m]/[name_f]Callie[/name_f]”. He likes [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] “[name_f]Annie[/name_f]” because he thought it’s cool that both our children’s names would start with J and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is like [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]. He likes [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] because he think [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] sounds bada$$ and [name_f]Callie[/name_f] reminds him of caliber/caliper which he likes!
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] he is willing to compromise! Sounds like you may not have to raise a little “Magnum” or “[name_m]Cannon[/name_m]”. Let us know what you decide on, I’m super curious.
So I just read this to my husband who is also into hunting and guns, and he suggested the name [name_f]Kimber[/name_f], which I guess is a high dollar brand name of guns. That might be a better girls name than Magnum. :). Good luck!
It may have already been suggested, as I didn’t read every reply, but a little girl in our area has a daddy who loves hunting. Her name is [name_f]Fawn[/name_f]. I thought it was cute for a hunting related name. Maybe consider names that have to do with what he likes to do with guns
I actually love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] nn [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] - that’s so cool and bada$$, and it still makes sense as a nn. I wish I was into hunting so I could start calling myself [name_m]Arrow[/name_m]. I would feel like a videogame heroine, lol.
that said, [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] nn [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] or [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is really lovely, and goes perfectly with [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] [name_m]Colt[/name_m]. [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] is also nice - both are way better than Magnun, for sure. I’m glad you guys could agree on a name that appeals to both of you and is still significant with such a hard theme - quite a challenge.
Your daughter will thank you later for not being called Magnun. And if she turns out to be a little hunter or a bit tomboyish, [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] is the coolest nickname ever. And if she is girly, [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is also perfectly fine. If you decide on [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], I would be jealous of her - how come my parents didn’t come up with such a cool nickname?? I go by [name_u]Caro[/name_u] instead (to english speakers, in portuguese my nns are different). I would love to have gone by [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] as kid - really, that’s the coolest.
I love both of your name choices. Let us know what you decide, and what did you choose for her middle name!
