Help me fall in love with the name Luke

So DH got me to agree with him in the hospital that our son should be named [name]Luke[/name]. It was his favorite and since I really didn’t have a clear favorite I agreed. The name is slowly growing on me, but I need help. Please tell me why you love the name [name]Luke[/name] and why I should love it too, besides it being my dearly beloved son’s name. If you don’t like the name please just don’t respond at all as that will not be beneficial to me. Thank you.

The name [name]Luke[/name] means [name]Light[/name] or Of [name]Light[/name]. Which is pretty positive to me! It is a cool-unfrilly-name that does not sound arrogant or pretentious. I have taught a couple of [name]Lukes[/name] over the years and the common theme has been that they have bee out going (ha) and fun! I have never met an awful [name]Luke[/name].

The name [name]Luke[/name] reminds me of a good-looking, athletic, all-American boy’s name. It’s classy and not overused, and sounds like a vey presentable name

I agree with themrs…[name]Luke[/name] just makes me think of a genuinely decent, hardworking, attractive man. I have a total crush on [name]Luke[/name] [name]Wilson[/name], I was obsessed with [name]Luke[/name] [name]Perry[/name] in junior high…And can’t forget Cool Hand [name]Luke[/name]!!! (Okay, played by [name]Paul[/name] [name]Newman[/name]…but only a man as good looking as him could carry the name!) Can I ask what your sons mn is? I’ve always loved the name but could never seem to find something to pair with it.

[name]Ella[/name]- I love the meaning. He is my [name]Light[/name] as this pregnancy pulled me out of PPD from my last one. I do hope he will be fun loving and outgoing as he grows. thanks for telling me your experiences with [name]Lukes[/name].

the mrs - Daddy wants him to play football one day and I think he is quite handsome, so maybe the name fits him perfectly.

I don’t know why I have been second guessing my son’s name lately. Is that normal with name lovers or the name obsessed? It’s like I have a new favorite name that pops into my head each week and i think should we have gone with that one instead. My OCD doesn’t help much either.Hearing unbiased opinions from others helps so much though so thank you.

I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Luke[/name]! It’s so handsome and strong sounding. [name]Every[/name] [name]Luke[/name] I know is very good looking, out going, and athletic [it’s crazy, but they all have those characteristics!]

[name]Luke[/name] is a handsome, classic name. I am a teacher and every [name]Luke[/name] I’ve taught has been friendly and very personable. Also I have a cousin [name]Luke[/name] who fits all the qualities discussed above, sporty, handsome, etc. [name]Luke[/name] is a name that is timeless and will suit your son as a baby and as an adult. [name]Truly[/name] one of my favourites  A great choice!

lacey jane-I was more of a [name]Jason[/name] [name]Priestly[/name] girl back then, but I did fall in love with [name]Luke[/name] [name]Perry[/name] in the movie Eight Seconds. I too think [name]Luke[/name] [name]Wilson[/name] is just a cutie pie.

DS was named after DH so he is [name]Luke[/name] [name]Brian[/name]. I know there is a country singer with the name, but that’s ok I love country music and as we were in the hospital room watching CMT his video came on right before they wheeled me away to deliver DS. DH kind of thought that was a sign…haha. I really like the combo [name]Luke[/name] [name]Hudson[/name] though if you are taking suggestions.

Thanks guys. You all are making me feel so much better about it. I guess in this world of trendy names I just question our classic short name. DH says a man doesn’t need to waste time writing his name…lol and I definitely didn’t want him to be [name]Jayden[/name] or [name]Aiden[/name].haha.

[name]Every[/name] [name]Luke[/name] I’ve known was good-natured and fun, so I do have a positive association with the name. And in the sea of BraydenAidenJaydenKadens, a good strong, classic, familiar name sort of [name]WILL[/name] stand out.

[name]One[/name] of my twins is a [name]Luke[/name] and while I was hesitant at first the name has definitely grown on me. (It was my husband’s top choice and mine was also an “L” name and we didn’t want to do the matchy twin thing so one of us had to give in.) The other names we picked all had family meaning, so when I get to explaining why we picked [name]Luke[/name], I typically reference [name]Star[/name] Wars. [name]Luke[/name] Skywalker- what a cool namesake! Additionally I really like the association with light. We have gotten lots of positive feedback about it and I’m sure you will too. But what’s most important is that in a few months I bet you’ll look back and realize that he has grown into his name and couldn’t be anything else which is what is what happened to me. I hope it does for you too.

My Nephew’s name is [name]Luc[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the name because it’s short and people can’t shorten it. It’s a name that will always be in style. It’s really important you love your son’s name. I’m going through the same with my daughter’s name. We decided to change the name to something we both love. [name]Just[/name] a though if you are stuggling with it. [name]Luc[/name] is a great name!!!

I think [name]Luke[/name] is a good name because it could suit a lot of different people. I can see a dark haired mysterious [name]Luke[/name], or a blonde haired blue eyed sweet [name]Luke[/name] (like the two lukes i know) [name]Luke[/name] is definitely one of the names you don’t have to worry about their personality really contrasting with the name, like having a little girl [name]Priscilla[/name] grow up to be very masculine, or for example I like the name [name]Ryder[/name] but I can’t see a studious quiet boy named [name]Ryder[/name]. [name]Luke[/name] is a nice name! [name]Luca[/name] is one of my favorites also

Thanks so much guys. You all are so kind to help me feel better about this.

Zaelia I think you are right that he will grow into it and I really do hope the same thing happens for me as it did you. I love your twins names by the way.
Growing up. I never knew any [name]Luke[/name]'s, unless you count [name]Luke[/name] [name]Duke[/name] haha…and the only one I have ever met was an eighty year old country, but distinguished man and I thought he wore the name well. I always thought it to be a strong and handsome name, but once we made it official for our son my doubts and insecurities have crept in. I’m horrible at making decisions anyways and always second guess them. That’s just how I am wired. Thanks again.I really appreciate it.

The other replies explain it well. It’s a cool yet not trendy, classic yet not boring, masculine name with plenty of positive associations.
The name description on the Nameberry page for [name]Luke[/name] puts it perfectly: “[name]Luke[/name] is a cool-yet-strong New Testament name, with a relaxed cowboy feel.”

[name]Every[/name] character or real life person I’ve known named [name]Luke[/name] has been handsome, strong yet gentleman-like. They range in age from young to old so the name has never gone out of style and probably never will. Perhaps the first well-known [name]Luke[/name] was that of the Bible, who was a well-educated, intelligent physician and artist, later to be a saint. 2,000 years later and the name is still strong, cool, and timeless.

Twilighter thanks for your comments. I do love that it is Biblical and cowboy at the same time and love the Nameberry description. I would not mind if my son decided to follow in the first famous [name]Luke[/name]'s footsteps and become a doctor.

Yes, I believe [name]Luke[/name] is the official saint of Physicians and Surgeons. That is one reason you will see hospitals in many different cities named “St. [name]Luke[/name]'s.”

my husband and I also [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Luke[/name]! Congratulations! We’ve really considered it for our 4th, but we had a girl on our 3rd… and I guess because we love the sound so much, we went with [name]Lucy[/name] for her  [name]Hence[/name] now we’re trying to decide if [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Luke[/name] are too similiar sounding. But what a wonderful, classic name! Know you’ll love [name]Luke[/name] more and more every day!

In addition to all the good points already made, [name]Luke[/name] makes me think of luck.

Mommy of four- [name]Lucy[/name] was on our top three if DS had been a girl. I loved its meaning, never realizing that [name]Luke[/name] was the boys equivalent meaning name. Until the week we came home from the hospital and my DD had drug a name book into the kitchen floor that was from the fifties and sixties and I decided to look it up. This particular book said, “bringer of light” and I nearly fell over because he was the light that brought me out of my PPD from DD. Good luck naming your LO. When are you due?

Thank you guys for all your comments. It is a day by day thing. I find it hard calling DS [name]Luke[/name] and right now just say little man or [name]Buddy[/name] a lot, but I had a hard time calling DD by name until her first birthday. I also find it hard letting other names go. I guess we will just have to have more kids down the road…
