Help! Name for a Surfer Girl :)

Hello!

Recently I met a little girl named [name]Solana[/name] and they called her [name]Sol[/name]. I’m not a huge fan of ‘[name]Solana[/name]’ (sounds kind of harsh to me) but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Sol[/name]. My fiance and I both love the ocean and surfing so we like names that we can picture on little surfer kids. [name]Sol[/name] sounds playful and fun, yet I can picture it ‘growing up’ on her as well. We also like the name [name]Cora[/name], which has the same feel. My fiance thinks [name]Sol[/name] is too short, and says he’d like it if it had a longer form … but I really can’t find any that I like. I don’t like [name]Solana[/name], [name]Soleil[/name], Solley, [name]Solena[/name] or anything like that. [name]Marisol[/name] is kind of cute but reminds me of ‘parisol’.

So I guess I’m looking for suggestions on longer forms, and also suggestions of other cute names that are similar to [name]Sol[/name] and [name]Cora[/name].

Any advice is welcome! Thanks!

What about Solace? It has a beautiful sound and a great meaning. Some more suggestions:

[name]Solange[/name]
Isola
[name]Isolde[/name]
[name]Soledad[/name]
Solstice
Sola
Absolom

I like [name]Cora[/name] much better. [name]Sol[/name] sounds really made up. But if you are set on it, I would go with [name]Isolde[/name].

[name]How[/name] do you pronounce [name]Isolde[/name] and Isola? I’m not sold on any of the other suggestions…I like Sola but it is only one extra letter! Maybe I would like more suggestions of names similar to [name]Sol[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]!

[name]Isolde[/name]: ee-ZOL-dah
Isola: ee-ZOL-ah

I knew a latino girl named Marisol… but they pronounced it Mod-ee-sol… i LOVE it.

Solanje (im probably spelling that wrong…) comes to mind.
Unisex, Sullivan may be up your alley
Hazel could be nicknamed Zol

Sol-Marie is cute.

What about [name]Sora[/name] or [name]Soren[/name]? I’m not really sure if [name]Soren[/name] is a boy or girl name though, I’ve only met one and she was a girl.

[name]Leila[/name]
Mowey

[name]How[/name] about [name]Solena[/name] (sol-ay-nah) that sounds very pretty. I quite like [name]Solana[/name], doesn’t sound at all harsh to me, as it would for example if it started with a Z

Other sea-type names

Moana
[name]Morgan[/name]
[name]Jennie[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name] - nn [name]Cora[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Cora[/name])
[name]Coral[/name]
[name]Oceana[/name]
Also like [name]Soren[/name], though think that’s traditionally a boys name but don’t see why it should be
[name]Finley[/name]

Or you could always go with [name]Sailor[/name] which is quite cute and you could still use the nn [name]Sol[/name]?

[name]Solange[/name]
[name]Soledad[/name]
[name]Solina[/name]
[name]Solene[/name]
[name]SOL[/name]
… and marisol is prounounce ([name]Mar[/name]-“E”-[name]Sol[/name])which when pronounced correctly “means” earth and sun! p.s mar is like m +are

and as i always suggest for 3 letter nn’s you can always “spell” them using a double middle name…

ie. [name]Stella[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Louise[/name]

For some reason, [name]Xiomara[/name] came right to mind for a suggestion. Others that may have that same feel:

[name]Vita[/name]/[name]Vida[/name]
[name]Allegra[/name]
[name]Aviva[/name]
[name]Nona[/name]

It’s not really my style, but I actually like the name [name]Sol[/name] on its own, and I love that it means “sun.” I know a boy named [name]Sol[/name], but I think it’s a perfectly gender-neutral name. I also think [name]Marisol[/name] is pretty but prefer it pronounced as a Spanish-speaking person would.

An idea for you is the beautiful name [name]Mira[/name] (pro. meera). It sounds very similar to the names you listed ([name]Cora[/name], [name]Marisol[/name]) and it means ocean or sea in Latin. In Sanskrit, it means peace. It is also my beloved daughter’s name…no wonder I love it so much!

What about [name]Marina[/name]? I picture a blond hair blue eyed water lover. Or what about [name]Blue[/name]? [name]Cordelia[/name]?

[name]Hi[/name], I think [name]Sol[/name] is really cool, on its own or as a nn.

There’s a Spanish you might like that’s a blend of [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Sol[/name]: [name]Socorro[/name]. I think [name]Socorra[/name]/Sakara would be pretty too.

Other options for a surfer girl could be
[name]Summer[/name]–nickname [name]Sol[/name] would be cute
[name]Aurora[/name]–nn [name]Ro[/name]?

The only [name]Marisol[/name] I know does pronounce it to rhyme with parasol…I also know a two males named [name]Sol[/name], one 25-yrs-old, the other 7. For both, it is their full name. I like juniperle’s suggestions of [name]Socorra[/name] or [name]Summer[/name], nn’d [name]Sol[/name]; and [name]Aurora[/name], nn’d [name]Ro[/name].

[name]Soren[/name] is a swedish boys name.

Sollilja (icelandic:[name]Sol[/name] is sun and lilja is lily)
Solvi
[name]Soley[/name] (used in Scandinavia and Australia)

I once read that [name]Noa[/name] means wave in Hawaiian but I am not totally sure…

Thank you all for the fabulous suggestions! We like :

[name]Lola[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] this on a little girl but can’t picture it on someone grown.
[name]Solena[/name]- Like this pronounced so-lane-uh. He’s not sold on it still!
[name]Socorra[/name]- We both liked it until he realized it was a Spanish word- he’s not a big fan of Spanish sounding names.

We also like [name]Makani[/name] which is Hawaiian and means wind. I love Kainalu which means wave rider but he says it doesn’t flow and doesn’t like the nickname [name]Kai[/name].

Keep the suggestions coming please!

Oh, he likes [name]Ivy[/name] a lot too but it’s not my favorite… all I can think of is her being teased with ‘poison ivy’.
