I have 3 on the way, so naming is overwhelming. I want to be surprised, so I’m preparing for up to 3 girls and up to 3 boys (we’ll get to those names later).
DH and I are disagreeing on how popular we want the names to be. He wants T100, but I’d rather use less common names.
My late mother’s name is [name_f]Lia[/name_f]. I want to honor her in the names. Since I’m having multiples, I would each should share the tribute.
(The last name is short and Italian. For a placeholder we’ll use “Manco”.)
I have 10 T100 names and 10 “Back 900” names. Below are my T100 picks. Please share your thoughts! Which do you think work best together?
T100
Layla or [name_f]Leah[/name_f] (not sure if I should use a modern spelling or alternative L name)
Sophia or [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] (not sure which spelling I prefer. like the -ia suffix)
Amelia or [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (love that [name_f]Lia[/name_f] is in the name! don’t know which spelling I prefer)
Eleanor (we both like this name. I like that “lea” is in the middle. don’t know if it works with other faves though)
Aurora (DH loves this name. I think it’s pretty, but no -lia connection)
Charlotte (DH likes this name. I think it’s very common. No -lia)
Eva or [name_u]Everly[/name_u] (DH likes [name_f]Ava[/name_f], i like [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. I like the -li in [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] kinda rhymes with [name_f]Lia[/name_f])
Aria (DH loves this name. has -ia, but DH also loves GOT. friends will assume she was named after the show.)
Mia (matches [name_f]Lia[/name_f] well. don’t know how it works with other names)
Julia (has -lia. don’t like [name_u]Jules[/name_u] or [name_u]Juli[/name_u] nicknames.)
***[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] would be my top pick, even though it’s so popular it seems to have what we both want. But DH’s cousin (who we are rather close with) has a DD named [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. She’s 10, don’t know if it would be possible to use it. Cousin goes by [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f], I like Nms [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or [name_f]Via[/name_f].)
Also there is no [name_f]Aria[/name_f] in game of thrones. There is an [name_u]Arya[/name_u] in game of thrones. [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is in pretty little liars. So yeah
Also if you really love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] go really nicely you should totally go for it! 10 years was a while ago, it’s not like it was the last 3-5 years
I don’t see a reason not to use [name_f]Leah[/name_f]. It’s a beautiful tribute and can be paired with various names. Giving [name_f]Leah[/name_f] to the first born seems like the fairest way to go. That’s how you would do it if it was just one girl, no?
I think using [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] would be too close for comfort if they’re seeing each other often. Confusing for you and them.
Here are is how I would pick them:
[name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] - seems to hit all the marks. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] bridges [name_f]Leah[/name_f] and [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]. “fia” matches “lia” better than “phia”.
Of your list I like:
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
Maybe instead of the -lia/ia you spell her name. Have one kid with a “L,” one with an “I,” and one with an “A.” I feel like you’d still be honoring her and have more options.
Right now DH and I are trying to make a T100 and Back 900 list. Don’t know how I feel about mixing popular and less common names. Trying to get it down to 3 and 3. Work on boys and then narrow it down some more.
Interesting…
Well I feel like you can look at this either way
if [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is a set
Aurelia and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] both go really nicely
Lilia I think is not t100 nor [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
But [name_f]Lily[/name_f] definitely is as is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (pretty sure they’re both t10)
So [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]) don’t feel like strangers in terms of popularity and nor do [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
That is a great way to look at it. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is my favorite name so far. I’m trying to compromise with DH. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] / [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] would be cute.
Lots of time to think lately and lots to think about for sure XD
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is actually the feminine of [name_m]Emil[/name_m] which means ‘rival’ while [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] means ‘work’. Another option I really love is [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] which is less popular (top 600’s more your style) and ends in [name_f]Lia[/name_f]. The Russian variant [name_f]Amaliya[/name_f] has the added meaning of beloved because it is also the Russian variant of [name_f]Amy[/name_f].
I adore [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]! If you go with [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] it’s a nice sib-set.
I think I have similar taste to your DH because I really love [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f]. But don’t like how popular they are right now. Maybe he’d like [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] because it has that same starting and ending sound he seems to love.
If you go with [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] then the Russian name [name_f]Yulia[/name_f] could be a nice option! You get the [name_f]Lia[/name_f] ending without the NM associations you don’t like. Also it’s more rare in the US and exotic.
I used to have [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] picked out for twin girls if I ever had them, and added [name_f]Livia[/name_f] for a triplet lol. I know they are all a little similar but they all have the “ia” ending.
I love [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], especially if you call her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]! I love it!
Congrats to you! I doubt I’m having any more so I want to be surprised. These are great suggestions I’ll see what DH thinks of [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]!
I think it’s possible that you’ll have to rule [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] out, but you could always ask this cousin and her [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] what they think, they may even like the idea!
Alternatively, I think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] works nice for what you both want as at least one name. And this spelling would be a slight compromise since while it’s still popular, it isn’t as popular as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. Same for [name_f]Sofia[/name_f].
Based on what you said I would rule out [name_f]Aria[/name_f] for sure, and I’m not sure about [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
