Help Us Decide ❤️

I think I’ve had a naming breakthrough with naming our daughter. Today I looked at every name I have written down for a girl and picked out the ones according to two criteria: 1) a name I would like for myself and 2) a name that embodies the qualities we hope for our daughter (strong, smart, kind, beautiful, unafraid to be herself, spunky but sophisticated). This got me narrowed down to THREE names (from a lot), my husband is open to all 3, and now I need YOUR input nameberries!

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - I’ve liked this name for a long time. It feels chic, biblical, modern but classic, spunky but sophisticated, to the point, confident but kind. It feels natural next to our son, [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. It’s been on and off the table so many times and I don’t know why I haven’t been able to commit since it “ticks all the boxes”.

[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - a name I came across in a book and fell in love with for its soft sound. I love that it’s unique but not strange. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] meaning and has a nature vibe that I like. Next to our last name, her name could sound like Calibrate (last name rhymes with Grady)- my mom pointed this out and it put us off for a little but it’s back on the table since we think it’s not that obvious/big of a deal. Thoughts?

[name_f]Colette[/name_f] - not a name I’d considered until recently. This is just a beautiful name I can imagine a beautiful, intelligent girl wearing. Is it too much of a mouthful next to our other two choices? And do you pronounce it Cuh-Lette or Co-lette?

Let me know what you like best and why. Middle name will probably be [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] (honor name). Thanks so much for your help, I always really appreciate the responses I get on this forum and your help in making this lifelong decision!

These names are all such lovely choices! Especially Calla and Colette I have both of them on my list and they’re one of my favorites. I agree with you about Calla she’s soft and sweet but not too common or strange. I would be happy to see people using it more. I don’t think it’s a big problem with your surname too. Ada is also a great choice. My favorite is Colette she’s been constantly stayed in one list. I love the bright, strong, pretty, spunky feel she has. I think all of them sound nice with the middle name. You definitely can’t go wrong with all these names. They would be perfect for your baby girl.

Best of luck!

All beautiful names!
I’m partial to [name_f]Calla[/name_f] in general, as I love flower names, and it makes me think of calla lilies. However, I do see an issue with the “calibrate” sound that you mentioned, which is slightly off-putting.
I actually think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] might be even more problematic with a surname that rhymes with [name_u]Grady[/name_u], because you’d get a double “ay” sound… (unless you’re pronouncing it AH-da, instead of AY-da?).
So my vote would definitely be for [name_f]Colette[/name_f]! It’s a gorgeous and unique name, with a nice literary connection. (I pronounce it “caw-LET”, by the way, in answer to your other question.) Fun nickname possibilities, too!

I would go with [name_f]Calla[/name_f]! I feel like it sounds the best next to the probable middle name, and it just is a simply gorgeous name.

I think all three are BEAUTIFUL names! I’m so glad you’ve narrowed it down as that can be so hard.

I personal favorite is [name_f]Calla[/name_f], but I believe that hanging onto these three up until you give birth will help! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I kept two names of boy and girls for options because we weren’t sure if when we had the baby a name we’d have chosen would be ‘it’! I think these three are all gorgeous and you can’t go wrong

Thank you! It feels good hearing you say I really can’t go wrong with any of the 3, kinda takes the pressure off. I agree [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is beautiful

[name_u]True[/name_u]! I hadn’t thought of these things. I’m not sure either are a deal breaker for us but definitely something to consider.

Thank you for suggesting waiting til birth! I worry I will be even MORE indecisive and confused if I wait, but maybe not!! Hmmm more things to consider

Of these 3, I’m going to champion for Calla! It’s such a sweet, sophisticated, spunky name, so it definitely fits :heartbeat:

Ada Morgan sound superb and balanced.

Definitely an Ada then, since I picture Ada Lovelace. It also has a lovely meaning, is simple to write and read, international and usable in many countries and cultures, classic yet with a little vintage flair, while still being modern and not dated (if that is important for you).

I think I’m leaning towards [name_f]Ada[/name_f] because I like the way the likely full name sounds all together and I like it best with [name_m]Luke[/name_m] but all three are lovely. I say [name_f]Colette[/name_f] like call-ette most often but the first vowel sound comes like either of the options you listed depending on how well I’m enunciating.

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] → beautiful, strong but sweet, short and snappy but elegant too. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] are fab

[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - unexpected and lovely - so fresh and bright. I wouldn’t have thought of Calibrate but I am now, but only because you’ve pointed it out

[name_f]Colette[/name_f] - sleek, sharp and stylish. I quite like it, but [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] are calling me more. I pronounce it cuh-lette

I think today, I’m rooting for [name_f]Calla[/name_f]

first of all, i love the names you have picked! :sparkles:

it is a tough choice between ada and colette because both would make a sweet sibset with luke. also, both ada morgan and colette morgan sound gorgeous.

personally, i would probably go with colette as it is more unexpected and it has a sweet, lovely vibe! :cherry_blossom:

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] definitely fits your description, I’m a little biased towards it since I work in computing and it reminds me of [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Lovelace[/name_u] but that aside it is just a really great name, spunky and sophisticated! I also really like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] as a combo, [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is a lovely middle. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_f]Collette[/name_f] (caw-let) are both lovely too, you really can’t go wrong, but [name_f]Ada[/name_f] gets my vote.

Oh my goodness. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]! I absolutely love that warm and simple combination. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is also a name I would love to have for myself, like you said.

All three are stunning :sunflower:

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] ~ she’s strong, has a gorgeous vintage flair, feels smart, looks visually pretty with the double ‘a’ ending, is very fashionable current ‘it’ girl name and I think sounds perfect with [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. Honestly [name_m]Luke[/name_m] + [name_f]Ada[/name_f] are a great pairing.

[name_f]Calla[/name_f] ~ romantic nature name that feels strong, intriguing and bold. I think [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is a lovely but I think paired with [name_m]Luke[/name_m] she doesn’t feel as cohesive as [name_f]Ada[/name_f].

[name_f]Colette[/name_f] ~ lovely name a name that has massively grown on me and is a total crush. [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is strong, elegant and has a range of lovely nicknames including the adorable [name_u]Coco[/name_u]. I love the meaning ‘people of victory’ which feels so strong. I say caw-let pronunciation wise. I think [name_m]Luke[/name_m] + [name_f]Colette[/name_f] work wonderfully unexpected but sweet.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Colette[/name_f] :ballet_shoes:

Oh my gosh- all these responses, I love it. Thank you for being as invested and into names as me… I have a lot to think about! Keep it coming!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] realized it’s a complete tie for each name

I like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] with [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] & [name_m]Luke[/name_m], it depends what you think suits her but sometimes what seems like the most obvious one is the right one but I’m also leaning towards [name_f]Colette[/name_f] in this instance, the nickname potential alone of [name_u]Coco[/name_u] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f]. I love both [name_f]Ada[/name_f] & [name_f]Collette[/name_f] I don’t think you can go wrong with either but I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] goes a little better with [name_u]Morgan[/name_u].

I LOVE all of these names, and I really don’t think you can go wrong! I especially love [name_f]Ada[/name_f] for you though. It’s a familiar yet unexpected name that is strong and spunky, yet also beautiful. I think it has all the qualities you are looking for in a name for your little girl. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] does stand out in the way you seem to want it to. But I also think its similarities to [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] are positives.

Congratulations and I hope this helps!
