Hot take number 2 for the day: [name_m]Just[/name_m] learned [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] is pronounced âA-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-Yahâ before it was Latin to me, pretty lookinâ but no pronucation whatsoever.
I donât like using unisex names on males. For some reason I dislike anything too feminine sounding on boys. However, I love most unisex names on girls- but dislike the fact that theyâre, well⌠unisex. Does that make any sense?

This isnât a hot take, but whenever I hear the name [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] I start laughing because it reminds me of
âAnd my name is [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]!â from the video âWhen Someone [name_u]New[/name_u] Starts At Workâ ([name_f]Pink[/name_f] Windmill Kids)
Oh my god that video is so funny, thatâs what [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] makes me think of too
Oh good, Iâm not alone ![]()
It sounds like you donât see unisex names as unisex, you see them as girlsâ names lol
I know this is probably going to be a very hot take, but I like the [name_u]Clair[/name_u]-uh pronunciation better than the Clar-uh pronunciationâŚ
@new.romantic I agree. After hearing Claire for both [name_u]Clare[/name_u] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f], Clair-uh is more natural for me. I know most people on here pronounces it Clar-uh, but I just canât bring myself around to saying it that way.
Yup! I just instinctively say CLAIR-uh and over time Iâve just come to prefer it so much more to CLAR-uh
I agree, [name_u]Clair[/name_u]-uh is the intuitive pronunciation for me.
Lee-la > Lie-la (both spelt [name_f]Lila[/name_f])
Vie-oh-lett > Vye-let (both spelt [name_f]Violet[/name_f])
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Violet[/name_f], it annoys me when people drop the o. It should be said like the first two syllables of violin.
I prefer [name_u]Abilene[/name_u] to [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].
Itâs weird to think about how many of the NB favorite names ([name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], etc) I have never actually met someone with those names. Like I know of some pop culture references but Iâve never met a [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] or an [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. Not that itâs a bad thing, itâs just I tend to see a lot more Sophias and [name_m]Williams[/name_m].
I know, right? Names like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] are so popular on here, and Iâve literally never met one!
Yeah, itâs so crazy! and then I think that theyâre a lot more popular than they actually are because I see names like that on nb all the time
I love the nickname [name_f]Millie[/name_f], but I canât love a full name for it to the point that I canât imagine not using and that goes with my other names in my sibset.
I also love the name [name_u]Jamison[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], but I donât know if I can separate it from [name_u]James[/name_u] enough to use it.
I agree. Mainly b/c Iâm lazy and saying âClar-uhâ takes effort that comes naturally with â[name_u]Clair[/name_u]-uhâ and also the âClar-uhâ pronouncation sounds weird (for lack of better word) to me.
Hot take: I personally dislike the name [name_f]Petra[/name_f] because for some reason I associate it with petrified or petri dish very strongly. But thereâs a character in a book I really like with this name so I love it for its namesakes.
itâs so weird in my world cus Iâve never met a [name_m]William[/name_m] but met a [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and probably Iâve met people with NB-favoured ones but never met anyone with the âpopular classicsâ (that I like???).
same! like iâm so used to saying [name_u]Clare[/name_u] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (know one lol) that I just pronounce [name_f]Clara[/name_f] starting with [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
