Hot Takes? 🤭

Oh my gosh, that is PERFECT.

That’s amazing haha!!

Isn’t it? This actually came about because one of my brother’s neighbors asked what the name of his puppy was, but he wasn’t familiar with the name [name_m]Fyodor[/name_m] and misheard “Fyodog”. That’s been the dog’s nickname ever since.

I feel like it’s the name not every [name_u]Berry[/name_u] has on their list but when it’s brought up everyone’s like “ooh yes!”

hopping in for a sec to comment on some i’ve missed:

1.) yeah ranking honors seems a bit odd, and i liked the comment someone made about not being able to judge the value of ANY name. kind of falls into line with the discussion we had a while back about “filler” names - you never know what meaning a name holds for a person, and even if it doesn’t have one, the base assumption should be, “ah, i respect the thought process of this other individual. i will not look at a name i personally think is bland and assume this mother is thoughtless.” which always always rubs me the wrong way. it’s never that blunt, but i k n o w a lot of people have internal biases against “rae” and “mae” and “rose” and “grace”, etc. let’s respect everyone’s name choices!
2.) honestly every time people bring up a hot take of like “i don’t know why it would be weird to name my kid (insert convention here)”, i think f o l k s. you’re thinking about it way too hard. very few people outside of contained, condensed naming communities will ever think that your child has a dog name, or care who your child’s honor is, etc. you’re all good!
3.) i have never seen much hype for gwen. i feel like it’s one of those kinda neutral names on here. kinda like, love for other people but not for yourself, sorta thing? it says a lot that a lot of people don’t have it on their lists yknow - then you can kind of picture berries liking it for others but not feeling any sort of real passion for it lol. so i’ve never really seen it as rated particularly highly at all!

About fillers: A name can’t be a filler name. You can use a name as a filler. Those are different things.

Would I say fillers don’t exist? Nope. I once saw an Instagram comment like this: “Her middle name took 3 seconds to decide. We had to choose something and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] sounded fine so we went with it. Didn’t feel any emotional connection to it.” This is a filler. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] filled a blank. Does that mean [name_f]Grace[/name_f] can only be used as a filler middle? Nope. If you just like it or it holds a significance, in other words. if it has a reason it’s not a filler.
Though I’d still comment “I find [name_f]Grace[/name_f] boring as a middle” if anyone asked my opinion. I’d say the same for first names, so? To me “I find [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] too overused” and “I find [name_f]Grace[/name_f] too overused as a middle” don’t have a difference. I find [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] boring, tbh. Same for [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a middle. Somehow people get defensive over middle names but not firsts.

I’m also Hispanic so that’s probably another reason why I pronounce it like that!

If you take names from other languages/cultures you should leave it on the gender it is traditionally used on.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] because two people were famously married doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use their names for siblings (Mary and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], for example). It’s not like you’re marrying your kids together !! :grimacing:
