I can understand that. Robert would be out of place in my sibset even as a middle name Iād use Robichaux without hesitation if only I could let go of my lovely Astrophel
As a nickname for Robixhaux Iād love to use Bobby, but that could be confusing since itās what I call my twin brother. Maybe Robbie could work.
Chiming in with the [name_u]Robert[/name_u] love: itās a beautiful classic with so many lovely nickname options, very handsome and noble sounding to me. Also, while there are a ton of great nicknames, just [name_u]Robert[/name_u] itself is very handsome and appealing too, although I think Iāve only known one [name_u]Robert[/name_u] who went exclusively by his full name. Plus, itās the name of my uncle [name_m]Bob[/name_m], who is a truly wonderful man, so a strong positive association for me.
agreed !!
[name_u]Henri[/name_u] is superior to [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
I feel like I see Azrael/variants more often on the forums, which is plain weird and inappropriate imo
I definitely agree with you on the weird part! I mean, for starters a lot of name traditions in Judaism have to do with avoiding drawing attention from death so it seems a bit counter intuitive to use his literal name? Plus why would you want your child to be reminded of the inevitability of their and everyone they loveās deaths every time you say their name?
Idk itās a trendy Hebrew/Muslim(? I know we share the angel Iām not sure if you would consider it a name from there tho) originating name that would never fit in at a synagogue/mosque.
Ikr! At least from the islamic perspective, [name_m]Azrael[/name_m] is be merciless and cruel to non-believers so why would you want your child to be associated with it And honestly why would you want people to be reminded of death every time they hear your childās name. Weird.
While it doesnāt matter for some names, even if it makes me roll my eyes, spelling certain names correctly actually DOES matter in some cultures. There are many around the world who have derived names or derive names because of deep, symbolic meanings and that includes how a name is spelled. Therefore, it is ignorant and disrespectful to hear a sound of a name you like from a culture thatās different from your own and completely change the spelling because you think it looks better in your language.
Now, there are many names that have crossed ābordersā and now have several variations made of them. I think for the most part, those are fair game for changing the spelling. As always, just do your research and be respectful of cultures that you borrow from, or donāt borrow at all.
To somebody who has not grown up with religion, it just sounds like your typical biblical angel name. Also, itās quite close to the HDM character [name_m]Lord[/name_m] [name_m]Asriel[/name_m], I wonder if some of its love on here stems from there.
me too⦠still one of my favourite names
Itās absolutely hilarious to me that [name_m]Graham[/name_m] is trendy in the US, and is put in with names like [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] image of [name_m]Graham[/name_m] is a 50+ year old bald man with lobster sunburn who sits in the pub with his mates [name_u]Barry[/name_u], [name_m]Wayne[/name_m] and [name_m]Steve[/name_m]. Iām not bashing Americans obviously because I know the name hasnāt been used in the same way over there. But the idea of a baby called [name_m]Graham[/name_m] just absolutely sends me feral.
I know a lot of people in my offline community like/know Azriel from a very popular book series by Sarah J Maas (my sister even considered it as a middle name for her newest baby if it had been a boy).
Itās not hard to Google it
Also, reaaaaaally close to [name_m]Lenin[/name_m].
I think both Henri and Henrik are superior to Henry. Itās just that little change that makes all the difference.
I agree, but most non-namenerds just donāt care enough to research anything about a name other than maybe outsiders opinions. Cultural appropriation or insensitivity just does not matter the way it should to the general (especially western based) populace, which is why names like [name_m]Azrael[/name_m] / [name_m]Azriel[/name_m], [name_m]Cohen[/name_m], [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f], [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u], ect. are so popular and continue to be used even during times like these where these issues are being brought up and highlighted often.
Then again, weāre on a naming forum. Iām sure users here have visited the main site at least once
i think youāre missing the point lol
some people just donāt care. which is obviously ridiculous but some people will use a name regardless of reasons they shouldnāt
Well, thatās the point. Iām saying how much I hate that they donāt care.
I donāt judge peopleās name tastes but I judge their ignorance.
Same!
