Yes! and wears his khaki shorts up way too high on his torso (personal experience)
Iāve heard of a few Luzifers/Lucifers and honestly, in a society that is becoming less and less religious, I think more of these names will pop up because people like their sound and donāt associate them with religion anymore. And even the meaning āhelp of godā (Azrael) doesnāt really suggest anything negative. Some people may even interpret the meaning as rather positive, death as a part of life, the last journey, etc.
I think thereās a different between a name like Cohen, which is a position held by a specific person, and interpreting a biblical character in a certain way.
Well yes, the exact problem is not caring about the culture/religionās view on the figure.
Hm, I think as there often isnāt one singular interpretation, and other people may interpret [name_m]Azrael[/name_m] in a more positive way, which, to them, makes it a usable name (and, at least from the wikipedia article, he doesnāt actually seem like a bad character unless someone was taught to see him this way.)
Personally, I think religion always needs to be considered a little differently as something that can be seen as negative by one person, can be seen as positive by another (in a much different way than a racial slur), and as no one can ever be more ārightā or ācorrectā than another.
Okay, Iām just saying I find it really weird to use such a figureās name, with all the controversy.
Iād advise against using it in an area with Muslims*, itās pretty much a religious figure not a human name and death will be everyoneās first thought. (*and possibly Jews, but I donāt know much about their view)
And I totally think thatās valid and good thing to āwarnā people about, but also a good reminder to be aware of not everyone viewing the world (incl. religion) in the same way as oneself and that this results in choices that do not necessarily stem from ignorance but from this different interpretation of the world instead.
I want to love [name_f]Odette[/name_f] but it reminds me too much of odio, the Spanish word for hatred.
same here. it also makes me think of odd - i worry that kids could use that for bullying
Soft boy names >>>>>>>>>> absolutely anything else
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] on a boy >>>>>>>>>> [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] on a girl
kit is exclusively a girlsā name.
counter: kit is exclusively a boysā name
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] is neutral really but cuter on boys
I donāt care what gender Kit is used for because I still wonāt like it, sorry
now THAT is a piping hot take
kit is one of the most nameberry names lol
Hereās a hot take:
Itās more important to talk to people close to you and who will be close to your child about potentially appropriative or insensitive names, than to try to listen to everyone. You will never end up with a clear answer if you try to listen to everyone because no group of people has a hive mind. Some people will be offended by things that other people would never even notice. Talk to the people you know. They are the ones who will actually be affected by your decision.
Another Hot Take:
While those naming babies can consult with those closest to them on names they would prefer us not to use, those same people they have consulted have to remember that the couple naming the baby is going to have other people important to them in their lives who may have the same name as someone who traumatised them. While you can offer up your opinions, you need to remember that it is ultimately the decision of the parents to name their child.
For example: I have been traumatised by a couple of different people in my life whose names I will never use for my kids. I donāt expect my brothers to not give their own kids those names as they may have amazing memories of people with those names.
I donāt like the name [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], even though Nameberry loves it. The double-R sound bothers me and I find it difficult to say without it sounding like my mouth is stuffed or something. It sounds like that when other people say it as well. It is really pretty otherwise, but the Rās⦠Iām not a huge fan.
same here!! and the same goes for Rory. i just canāt pronounce the double r sound
Same here! I just cannot get onboard with Aurora and Rory.
I find [name_u]Rory[/name_u] easy to say but find [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] so awkward! Iām surprised [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is popular in the UK because it sounds awful in all British accents
