Hot Takes? 🤭

I think the [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] debate has reigned long enough now and we haven’t added anything new to the discussion as of late.

Rather than take away from the Hot Takes thread and let this continue to escalate, let’s agree to disagree, as everyone’s religious experiences are going to vary greatly, and because each person’s relationship and view on religion is going to be unique, so is everyone’s reaction to names of Biblical figures.

I completely agree! I just can’t come to like any of those names.

As someone who was raised religiously (Christian), I had never once heard of [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] in the bible, until I joined Nameberry.

Hot take:

I find these longer civil discussions one of the most interesting and helpful parts of NB as they allow you to get different views on names, their origins and implications. I don’t think there’s a need for a winner of a debate but I honestly don’t know why they need to be cut short?

@RileyAddison13 that’s because she isn’t even really in the bible.

you’re always free to make your own thread! i think what haley (@leafsgirl44) was trying to say is that it doesn’t make much sense for this discussion to continue in the hot takes thread in particular, as not much has been added to the conversation lately and the usability of lilith isn’t what the topic is for.

my hot take today would be that the nickname Luce? way better on a boy :yellow_heart:

like a little Lucien ‘Luce’? or even just the name on its own is adorable :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

YES, I love [name_u]Luce[/name_u] for a boy :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: my fav full is [name_m]Lucius[/name_m] (loo-shus), I love it on its own though

yay! welcome to the fan club :relieved: and i love lucius as a full name, how did i not think of that?!

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is better imo but [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] is way better than C variants!

Katherine>Katharine>>>>>Catherine>Catharine

my hot take:

catharine is not a bad spelling of the name at all. it’s a two letter difference from katharine, and a one letter difference from catherine and katharine. i don’t understand why i never see catharine mentioned anywhere!

It’s my least fav cause the pronunciation reminds me of catheter (I say it cath-uh-rin, vs Catherine which is cath-rin)

that makes sense. I pronounce all four spellings the same (cath-rin). just out of curiosity, how do you pronounce katharine?

Almost the same, I put just slightly more emphasis on the cath- part but other than that the same as [name_f]Catharine[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] are the same though

I think this is less of a hot take nowadays, but still something I was thinking about.

I really enjoy when people select trendy/modern names for their children, even if it isn’t the typical widely loved name.

I am friends with a number of teen parents who chose names for their children that would probably raise a few eyebrows here. [name_f]My[/name_f] reason for enjoying these names is because I think that every name has a certain beauty to it, even if it doesn’t fit the bill for what you personally deem as a beautiful name.

While I like slightly extravagant, fantastical names such as [name_f]Evaluna[/name_f] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], some of my Nameberry friends prefer classics such as [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]. Neither set of names is objectively more beautiful than the other - just subjective preference.

I think the names people choose are a reflection on the style and even life stage of the person doing the naming. And to me, that is a beautiful thing - no difference whether the name is [name_u]Louise[/name_u], [name_u]Noa[/name_u], or Mackenleigh.

I also wanted to note that just because I see beauty in every name doesn’t mean that I like every name. I think it’s wonderful that we have a community where we can offer our opinions and hesitations on a name without judgement.

I detest it when people mock “Mackenleigh” and other names like that. At the very least, it’s a cheap shot, but I also just don’t like the idea of mocking names that have a strong association with a certain clan of people. It’s usually just veiled bigotry and so disgustingly smug.

I think it is time for [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] to make a comeback.

[name_f]Bee[/name_f] = “Bee”
[name_f]Bea[/name_f] = “Bee-uh”

It has! It’s in the top 100 in the UK and I personally know of a couple of baby Stanleys.

I agree! (Although not sure what my 80s vibe says about me )

I like Prim on its own much more than [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
