How do you pronounce Lucian?

One of my favourite names right now is [name_m]Lucian[/name_m], and I also love [name_m]Lucius[/name_m], but where I like [name_m]Lucius[/name_m] pronounced both Loo-see-us and Loo-shen, I only like [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] pronounced Loo-shen.

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_m]Lucian[/name_m]? And where are you from?

Well I’m from South [name_u]Dakota[/name_u] and pronounce [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] as [name_u]LOU[/name_u]-cee-EHN. I also think it can be pronounced Loo-shuhn.

I pronounce it LOO-see-in, though I wouldn’t blink at LOO-shen.

I’ve known several people named [name_m]Lucian[/name_m]/[name_m]Lucien[/name_m], and they all pronounced it LOO-shen.

I would say Loo-shen

I’m from south west [name_f]England[/name_f], and I’d say ‘loo-shuhn’

I say LOO-shuhn. I understand Loo-see-ehn, but to me, the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] is the see-ehn pronunciation, and the -cian is shuhn. If that makes sense. lol.

I have only ever pronounced it Loo-Shen. I love it!

I would pronounce loo-shen, but see both as accepted pronunciations. Whichever you use, I think you would have people getting it wrong, but it’s an easy correction to make.

[name_u]Lou[/name_u] shun…

I’ve always pronounced [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] [name_f]LU[/name_f]-chan? as in [name_m]Luciano[/name_m] Pavarotti?

I would say LOO-shen!

I would say Loo-see-en because i have a european background (swiss/british). I think its very common place (especially in the US) to pronounce it Loo-shen. Also Loo-chi-en is also quite similar and I think it might be the italian pronunciation like [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is Loo-chia.

I’m in the UK, and I say LOO-see-uhn, which is the only way I like it.

My first thought was [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-see-ehn (I’m in the Midwest of the US). But I absolutely get the loo-shen pronounciation.

I have always thought it was [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-see-ehn, but I like the loo-Shen pronunciation much better. I am from the US, east coast and now western US.

I think of it in two ways…my first gut reaction would be “lou-see-ehn”, but also “lou-chee-ehn”. I’m from the Midwest US, but my grandpa came from [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and this is how he’d pronounce it (the latter). Honestly, I’d look at the last name before attempting to pronounce it…right or wrong.

I babysit a boy called [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] and his parents pronounce it “loo-see-un”

I’ve heard both LOO-shən and LOO-see-ən (this is how the painter [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] Freud pronounced his name). I’m in the UK.

I would pronounce this loo-shun. Spelled [name_m]Lucien[/name_m], however, I say it loo-see-en. I’m from the Midwest United States.
