How do you say Evie?

I follow someone on Instagram with a daughter named [name_f]Evie[/name_f], and up until yesterday I didn’t know it was short for [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. I have always said eve-ee in my head while reading it (I’ve never met an [name_f]Evie[/name_f] [name_m]IRL[/name_m]) but seeing as it’s a common nickname for [name_u]Everly[/name_u], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] are people actually saying it eh-vee & I’m just wrong? The only names I can think of where it would make sense to say eve-ee are [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] & [name_f]Eva[/name_f].

I’ve always said Eee-vee, and I’ve only ever heard it pronounced like that :slight_smile:

I say it with the long e, like the Pokemon (and I pronounce [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] with a long e too).

But I can see it with a short e, especially as a nickname for [name_u]Everly[/name_u], etc. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wouldn’t be my first assumption.

I say EE-vee, almost regardless of how the original name ([name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_u]Everly[/name_u]) is said. If I wanted EH-vee, I’d probably spell it different (probably [name_f]Evey[/name_f], although I don’t know why that reads as EH-vee over EE-vee).

Like others, it’s always EE-vee to me. I think it’s very sweet that way, whereas eh-vee sounds much clunkier and much less attractive to me.

I have an [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and it is her given name. Not short for anything. We say it like the letters “e.v.”, so a long “e”. But I actually know someone with a grandma evie but it’s pronounced “eh-vee” that was always weird to me and i think its probably an exception.

I pronounce it both ways, depending on which language I speak and… which name, I guess. For [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] it’s Ee-vee, while [name_u]Everly[/name_u] gets Eh-vee.

I say EE-vee, which is how someone I knew said it. But I also really like it (and think it works fine) for names beginning with a short E, like [name_u]Everly[/name_u], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] etc. and say it the same way unless specified (and the difference would probably be pretty obvious out loud). Eh-vee I’d probably spell as [name_f]Evy[/name_f] or [name_f]Evey[/name_f].

Ee-vee is the correct way of saying [name_f]Evie[/name_f], I’m pretty sure its the only way. I can still see it being used as a nickname for the above though. I’ve actually imagined having an [name_u]Everly[/name_u] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] myself!

EE-vee, I’ve never known it as EH-vee. I’d avoid the [name_f]Evie[/name_f] spelling if I wanted EH-vee and go with something like [name_f]Evi[/name_f] or [name_f]Evy[/name_f].

I always say it like Eevee, regardless of the full name. If it was [name_f]Evvie[/name_f] then I’d spell it like that rather than [name_f]Evie[/name_f].

I say say it “eh-vee”.

I say [name_f]Evie[/name_f] EE-vee. [name_f]Evy[/name_f] would be EH-vee. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with [name_u]Everly[/name_u], I would use [name_f]Evie[/name_f] because I prefer the EE-vee pronunciation.

I say [name_f]Evie[/name_f] like “ee-vee”…I don’t really care for “eh-vee”, personally. I have a friend (social media friend) who’s name is [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and she pronounces it “ee-vee”.

I had a great aunt [name_f]Evie[/name_f], pronounced Eh-vie and a friend now with an [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] with the Eh-vie sound. But my middle name is [name_f]Eve[/name_f] so when I see [name_f]Evie[/name_f] I do struggle with thinking Eh-vie because it’s familiar but wanting to say Ee-vie.

I pronounce it Eh-vee. I thought everyone did until I came on this site haha! To me, it just doesn’t make sense as a nickname to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_u]Everly[/name_u], etc. otherwise
