Did it happen right away?
Did it take a few tries?
Did it take a few years?
Did you try to conceive during ovulation like they say to do? Or it happened a different time?
We tried for the first time this week and I am super nervous it will take months or more.
It took us 6 months of trying. I definitely tracked ovulation with BBT and OPK. Because of my age, I decided 6 months would be my limit, and then I would start looking into medical “assistance”. I happened to have a beautiful BBT chart that 6th month, and that was the month for me. I took a lot of supplements for several months prior to trying- CO Q10, [name]Omega[/name] 3’s, DHA, folic acid, maca, Floradix, super greens, Chinese botanical formulas, and progesterone cream during my luteal phase, just to name a few.
I will say, though, that in a previous marriage a few years ago, we casually tried for almost a year, and I was not successful. That caused me some concern, but in the long run, it was the best possible outcome.
It happened right away. I didn’t track ovulation or anything, it just worked out in that first month of trying. I’m in my late 20s if that matters at all.
It took 4 months once I stopped birth control. We just had a normal sex life and didn’t try to prevent it, no charting or anything. I plan to do it that way next time as well, while paying closer attention to ovulation symptoms. I was also taking Vitex for 3 weeks before I found out I was pregnant, but I’m not sure if that mattered or not.
My best friend is due in [name]July[/name] and she got pregnant the first month off BC. She was really shocked and almost a little irritated because she hadn’t even had time to adapt to the idea of pregnancy. She’s fine now though and I can’t wait to meet my little “nephew.”
Eight cycles. I started charting just a month or two in (the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is freakin incredible) because I knew with my PCOS and such I might have trouble. I was able to tell I wasn’t ovulating. I had ovarian drilling on February 20th, and started Clomid once my body had healed. I got pregnant on my third Clomid cycle, and got my BFP exactly 4 months to the day after my drilling, on 6/20.
When you’re taking fertility drugs you generally are paying close attention to your temps and other ovulation signs and timing intercourse. I BD’d every other day from CD 10-20 the first cycle, a big chunk of 4 days in a row right before O day the second cycle, and this cycle since I knew I was gonna ov (probably) on CD 18 or 19, I just watched my temps and we ended up doing it four days before, skipped a day, the day before O and the day of.
We also used Preseed the last two cycles, and despite my doc saying I didn’t need it, I used progesterone cream this cycle (and still using it!) and I’m convinced that made the bean stick. I was having a 10 day luteal phase with spotting towards the end and Clomid can thin the endometrium.
I track my cycles only with CM and log BD, did about a year of temping back in 2009 just to learn how my body was doing things. It’s a good thing I at least had that chart, bare bones as it was, because we conceived on day 42-43 of my cycle (I’m super irregular, but usually not later than 35 days) and I needed something to ‘prove’ that to the OB who thought I was 10 weeks with a blighted ovum when really I was only 6 weeks and the embryo wasn’t visible yet (at least not to an ultrasound tech expecting to see a 10-week uterus). I had already taken two pregnancy tests before conception, and I figured this was just a really weird cycle so we didn’t worry about BC. Whoops
[name]Per[/name] your last question (did we TTC during ovulation), looking back at the chart NOW I realize I had a cycle re-set somewhere in there, and ovulation did occur the day of or day after BD. I show some similar CM during ovulation and immediately pre-period, which is common, and I assumed I was going to get my period the next day, when in actuality I was about to ovulate.
I have been off birth control for a few months now. My boyfriend and I just tried for the first time this week. And I am anxious that I am going to be a person who it will take months to have a baby. I am only 23 so I do not know if that plays a part in it or not. But it seems like a lot of people I talk to it is mixed. [name]One[/name] person I know it took her 6 months while the other person I know got pregnant right away after going of BC.
[name]Do[/name] you suggest trying more than once during the week of ovulation?
Dude, you’re young, it’s probably going to be easy. I know nothing about TTC’ing, so I’m probably not going to be very helpful, but just once during ovulation? That sounds boring. [name]Both[/name] my pregnancies have been accidents, so this is probably not going to be helpful, but I have sex with my husband at least once a day. And if I was trying to get pregnant, I’d probably not bother doing anything else during the ovulation period.
The first time I got preggo, we weren’t actually trying, we just weren’t preventing. I had been on birth control pills for about 15 years so I assumed it would take a looong time. I ended up pregnant at month 8! That pregnancy ended in a miscarriage.
It took me quite awhile to feel emotionally ready to try again so we waited over a year to really try the second time around. Then I bought an ovulation predictor kit to track ovulation - and I used the Mucinex trick - and we got pregnant during month 2! I’m now at 16 weeks, having a girl, and cruising along pretty well!!! The wording to your last question is a little funny and I’m sure this isn’t what you meant but - it’s impossible to get pregnant if you don’t have sex while you’re ovulating. Lots of women don’t have to think about it and they’re healthy and fertile enough - and having sex often enough - that it will just happen on its own by luck. But for those of us who are more eager to get preggo asap or who’ve had previous issues, tracking your ovulation is always going to be the fastest, most efficient way. Good luck to everyone who’s trying!
ETA: And if you’re hoping to get preggo asap, definitely do it more than once during your ovulation!!! Your 23, it should be fun and easy for you!
Definitely try more than once around the time of ovulation if you can! [name]Every[/name] other day is kind of the norm around here and seems to be conducive to TTC from what I’ve read/heard.
No way of knowing how long it will take–I was sure I would have a long wait due to my irreg cycles and got pregnant immediately while my best friend who never expected a problem is just starting clomid after a year of trying. It’s frustrating, but you never really know.
Thank you for all telling me your stories! It is nice to hear what everyone has gone through and kind of reassures me that even if it takes a long time it will all work out for the best.
@ottilie- That is amazing how you have sex once a day! I am not really a sexual person and never have been so this process is interesting to me. I just have this feeling its not going to happen right away. And I know if it doesnt happen now my boyfriend wants to wait and try maybe in the Fall. We are already starting ahead of what we had planned lol.
@cvdutch31- I hope so! So far it has been an anxious process. I am an anxious person in general which does not help but I think I am going to try again tonight and see what happens.
@lineska-I heard trying every other day as well. I know with my mother it was super easy for her to get pregnant. She ended up having my sister by the pull out method failing. So maybe things will be okay and I am just freaking myself out. Thank you!
Also question if my most fertile days were [name]July[/name] 17-21 and today is now the 22nd does that mean the window has closed and we shouldn’t try again? We only had sex on [name]July[/name] 21.

But I was reading that your chances of getting pregnant after ovulation days is slim. The window period may be too small to get pregnant which is annoying me right now.
