How to pronounce Isolde? Baby due in Dec

I read the real pronunciation sounds likes this ih - s oh l - duh … but i was hoping to use it either as ee-sold or ee-sol. If i pronounce it ee-sol i would change the spelling to Isole. So my main question if you picked this name already how do you pronounce it? and for reference my other two daughters are [name]Kairi[/name] [name]Xia[/name] Baca and [name]Ella[/name] Q Baca ([name]Kairi[/name] [name]Xia[/name] pronounced [name]Kye[/name]-ree, [name]Zia[/name]) and [name]Ella[/name] just how it sounds, the Q sounded best with her name. Now everyone calls her [name]Ella[/name] Q like one full name

ok im rambling… i just feel [name]Kairi[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] are very soft girly sounding names… i dont know how i feel about [name]Isolde[/name] being soft or girly? Someone help me out ive been racking my brains out trying to find a name

My reference is the movie “[name]Tristan[/name] and [name]Isolde[/name]”. Unfortunately it was pronounced “is old” in the movie. :frowning: I do think [name]Isla[/name]…although getting rather popular on this site might be a nice alternative and works great with your daughter’s names.

I think [name]Isla[/name] is a lovely name, but it’s a little bit too similar to [name]Ella[/name]. I like [name]Isolde[/name], although I agree it’s hard to figure out how to pronounce it-- I always pronounced it ee-SOLD. To me, the name doesn’t really sound soft and girly-- I think of more of a strong, heavily armored ‘action babe,’ though the ‘e’ on the end does soften it.

Some other names that sound like they might fit with [name]Kairi[/name] and [name]Ella[/name]:

[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Bronte[/name] (not the softest sound)
[name]Darragh[/name] (pronounced ‘[name]Dara[/name]’) OR just [name]Dara[/name] itself
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Isis[/name]
[name]Laila[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Anais[/name]
[name]Maya[/name] or [name]Maia[/name]
[name]Tamar[/name]
[name]Gioia[/name] (pronounced [name]JOY[/name]-a)
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Coren[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]
[name]Danae[/name]
[name]Nerys[/name]
[name]Ianthe[/name]

I registered just to tell you that [name]Isolde[/name] is pronounced “is old”, with emphasis on the syllable ‘so’.

ih-ZOHL-dh

If you use this name and change the pronunciation, you should be aware that there will be plenty of people who will “mistakenly” call your daughter by the true pronunciation.

[name]Isolde[/name]'s pronunciation depends upon which language you are using when you say it. Since the opera was [name]German[/name], in [name]German[/name] it is pronounced Ee-zold-uh. However, the original Celtic spelling is [name]Iseult[/name]/[name]Yseult[/name], ee-suhlt. In French, it is ee-zold, no final syllable.
It was quite common in medieval times but the association with [name]Wagner[/name] has limited its current usage. I like the name – it has a good meaning – but I prefer the softer Celtic sound and spelling. ([name]Even[/name] though the opera is one of the few of [name]Wagner[/name]'s that I actually enjoy.)

Exactly what miloowen said. [name]Isolde[/name] in the context of the [name]German[/name] [name]Opera[/name] “[name]Tristan[/name] und [name]Isolde[/name]” is ee-zold-uh. The “correct” pronunciation is all about heritage and location, and since it’s not a very common name you can probably push for whichever pronunciation you prefer, just be prepared to back it up with “the French pronunciation” or whatever you pick.

I always pronounce it as ee-ZOLD. Maybe you would like the name [name]Isaline[/name]? prn EE-sa-LEEN. I think [name]Isaline[/name] would make a great sister to [name]Kairi[/name] and [name]Ella[/name].

thanks everyone, im getting some more ideas now

And its amazing ive never seen Kairion any other baby name site and the reference from Kingdom Hearts! thats where i got the name in the first place i was a die hard KH fan

I always thought this was EE sol dee. I love it that way. I’m not sure I like as much pronounced the proper way, Is OLD.
