How would you pronounce Emilia

[name]How[/name] would you pronounce [name]Emilia[/name]? This is our too runner but I am a little worried about pronunciation. Thank you for your help!

eh-MEE-lee-uh is always how I naturally approach it.

I would say “ee-mee-lee-ah” as opposed to [name]Amelia[/name] “ah-mee-lee-ah”.

Eh-Mee-[name]Lee[/name]-uh is the correct pronunciation, I believe.

When we studied [name]Othello[/name] in English class we all pronounced it uh-meel-ee-ah, the same as [name]Amelia[/name]. That was how our teacher said it, anyway. It’s the only real-life experience I’ve had with the name.

eh MEEL yuh

eh-mee-lyah. The “[name]Em[/name]” as in [name]Emily[/name]/[name]Emma[/name]/[name]Emmeline[/name]/[name]Emerson[/name]/[name]Emmet[/name].

(But English vowels are lazy so I see why it could sound like [name]Amelia[/name].)

I pronounce it the way the pp(s) have said. Like [name]Amelia[/name] with an E. I love it

I will say that I’m in the South (US) so the extra syllable would not really be pronounced (in the area I am in, anyway).
As in, it would be pronounced ‘Eh-meel-yah’ not ‘eh-mee-lee-ah’ just like [name]Amelia[/name] would not be pronounced ‘ah-mee-lee-ah’ but ‘ah-meel-yah.’
Lazy southern accents

Eh-mee-lee-uh. However, I knew a little girl with this name once and her parents pronounced it [name]Em[/name]-ill-ee-uh (sort of like [name]Emily[/name]-uh or [name]Emma[/name]-[name]Leah[/name]), which I think is pretty, but I bet no one ever pronounces it that way.

eh-MEE-lee-uh, but when I say it fast it sounds pretty much the same as [name]Amelia[/name].

eh-MEEL-ee-uh. Very slight difference in first syllable compared to [name]Amelia[/name] (uh-MEEL-ee-uh). It’s hard to detect the difference because the first syllable is so short (vs. [name]Emily[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], etc).

However, for whatever reason, I vastly prefer [name]Emilia[/name] to [name]Amelia[/name]. [name]Amelia[/name] is just ok, while [name]Emilia[/name] is lovely.

I’m weird and always pronounced it like Eh-ma-lia where as [name]Amelia[/name] is Uh-meal-ee-a, to me at least.

I’ve known a few Emilias, some pronounced it [name]Emma[/name]-leah and some [name]Em[/name]-MEEL-ee-a. [name]Even[/name] the second pronounciation, though, the MEEL in the middle is almost more like an E-ish MILL. It’s distinct to my ear from the middle of [name]Amelia[/name].

Eh-MEE-lee-ah

Yes I agree the schwa in English makes the two sound very similar.

I would say Eh-MEE-lee-a (like the clear Eh at the beginning of [name]Emily[/name]) and A-MEE-lee-a (a is in cat), although in practice [name]Amelia[/name] would come out more like 'Uh-MEE-lee-a. I definitely say them differently though and regard them as different names.

I say [name]Emilia[/name] as ee-mee-lee-uh
I say [name]Amelia[/name] as uh-mee-lee-uh

Eh-[name]MIL[/name]-ee-uh (eh like [name]Emily[/name])
I’ve never even heard the name spoken out loud though. I think it’s pretty either way!

(Eh-meel-e-uh) as opposed to [name]Amelia[/name] (Uh-meel-e-uh)

Thanks to everyone for their input so far. I am feeling very reassured now! I love this name so much

I say eh-MEAL-ee-yah. It’s definitely not a strong “MEE” sound, but it’s not a “MILL” sound, either. It’s kind of in between the two, and sounds pretty close to how I say “meal”, that’s why I spelled it that way. It may not make too much of a difference for other accents, but it does mine. [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Emilia[/name], btw. It’s one of my favorites!
