Juniors
During my search, I noticed there were a lot of -Junior suffixes attached to a number of names that were popular in the 80s & 90s for boys in England & Wales (see this post for more information!) This interested me, since it is likely that the babies’ dads had the first half of the hyphenated name!

The following names were given to 3 or more babies in England & Wales 2021:

Anthony-Junior
Ashley-Junior
Carlton-Junior
Christopher-Junior
Daniel-Junior
David-Junior
Jack-Junior
Jake-Junior
James-Junior
Jamie-Junior
Jay-Junior
John-Junior
Jordan-Junior
Joseph-Junior
Kai-Junior
Liam-Junior
Luke-Junior
Matthew-Junior
Paul-Junior
Shaun-Junior
Thomas-Junior
Tommy-Junior
Tony-Junior

I hope you found this interesting! What were your favourite names on the lists, and would you consider using any of them? Which names were you surprised about, if any?

Fascinating data!! Thanks for sharing this. Really interesting how many people chose the hyphanted [name_m]Junior[/name_m] name. I suppose they want to avoid confusion more than just by adding [name_m]Jr[/name_m] to the end of the name.

The range of types of names used is interseting, from more nickname names (ie, Freddie-James to formal names like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] James). Also interesting how many names use J names, especially [name_u]James[/name_u], or [name_u]Lee[/name_u] as the second name. Makes sense though as they are one syllable and flow well with a variety of names.

Nice to see hyphenated names are being used on boys!

It was hard to pick favourites, I think because I dislike [name_u]James[/name_u] and there weren’t many other options :woman_facepalming:

I think I’ll choose Arlo-Jay and Harley-Jay as my favourites

I find these so much fresher and more interesting than the girl names! (There’s only so much [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] I can handle )

[name_u]Love[/name_u] Albie-James, Alfie-James, Oliver-James (although the sad [name_m]Fleet[/name_m] Foxes song about a baby would put me off using it), Reggie-Ray, Teddy-James
