I love the name Froggy for a little girl

I know it’s a little weird but I really want to name my second daughter Froggy. Some of my friends love it but my family absolutely hates it. Help!

Can I ask why?

Maybe as a nickname? I think it’s too much, I’m afraid it will not age well.

Freya [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Greer[/name_f], maybe?

I can see it as a pet name, but I don’t think it would be a good idea to have that be her name.

In my opinion, it doesn’t sound like a name or even a nickname. I am a big proponent of “noun/thing” names but this one doesn’t really work as one.

I love amphibians as much as the next biology nerd, but it’s also important to point out that frogs aren’t regarded as particularly beautiful or “virtuous” animals. Seems like a difficult thing to be called, as a child and also as an adult.

Are there any full length names that could use Froggy as a nn?

Maybe a classic F name:

[name_f]Francine[/name_f]
Or
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]

I envision the quirky little girl who plays in rain puddles or is high energy bouncing around. [name_f]My[/name_f] nickname growing up was Bug. I don’t see why Froggy can’t be a cute nn when she’s young. If you pick a full length name you’ll have more options for when she gets older.

Edit: I love @Estrela’s suggestions. I stuck with FR- names but having a first and middle name that kind of resembles the nn is a great idea.

I don’t see Froggy as a first name, but I could see it as a nickname.

Don’t.

Sounds like strictly a family/pet name.

Like others have said, I don’t think it would be a good idea for it to be her full name. There are so many lovely F names for it to be short for, but I honestly feel like you could call her that no matter what her name is!

I could get behind that! It’s cute. But I would use it as a nn.

Anura (Frogs can be classified under the Order of Anura)
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]
[name_u]Flannery[/name_u] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] (I actually really like this combo!)

I have to agree that I think it is a better nickname than official name.

Nickname - yes.
Full legal name - no.

Pretend your mom had lovingly named you something similar…let’s say she of-fish-ally named you Fishy; then pretend you’re fifteen; do you enjoy meeting new people and telling them your name? Hearing it called out at school, etc? If you can imagine you might not, best to find something that’s satisfyingly whimsical but not so likely to result in hurtful moments all her life.

Just don’t.

Would you, hand on heart, like to go through life having to introduce yourself as Froggy?

I agree with those who say use it as a pet name. If you’re into cute, animal-themed first names, choices like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_u]Dove[/name_u], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_f]Fawn[/name_f] feel far more wearable and appealing.

I am with your family on this one. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]?

I have to agree - it doesn’t work IRL as a first name. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] her resume? No one’s going to hire Froggy.

Nickname only territory, squarely.

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts exactly!

As someone who likes [name_f]Pixie[/name_f], [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] and [name_f]Honey[/name_f] as actual first names - it does make it a bit easier for me to want to use them knowing that in [name_f]England[/name_f], they can be found in the top 1000, meaning my child won’t be the only one out there in the world named [name_f]Pixie[/name_f].

Froggy doesn’t appear in any country, so it makes it much harder to try and envision it on a child. The only instance of a child ever being called Froggy that I can think of is [name_m]Little[/name_m] Rascals, and he was called that because when he spoke, he sounded like he had a “frog in his throat”.

I think Froggy would make for a sweet pet name, but as a first name, I don’t think I’d like to be called that.
