I just got very attatched to the name atlas all of a sudden. Opinions?
I think it could be a good middle. I read a book where the girl was [name]Terra[/name] and her brother was [name]Atlas[/name].
I actually consider [name]Atlas[/name] to be super masculine. I would hate to see it used on a girl.
headdesk
NO.
[name]Don[/name]'t do it. That is just cruel and wrong.
As a middle I think it could be nice.
I don’t care for it for either gender, to be honest. It doesn’t seem like a name to me at all but not especially not for a girl. Anything can go in the middle though, so I would be for it there.
Yep, same for me. I love [name]Atlas[/name], I think it’s an awesome, powerful name. I love strong, unfrilly, names for girl (you wouldn’t know it by my top 3 in my sig, but I promise I do, haha), but [name]Atlas[/name] is just… sigh no thank you.
I don’t understand why it would ever be put on a girl…
[name]Atlas[/name] is meant for a boy. It sounds really masculine. Giving a girl the name [name]Atlas[/name] is cruel.
I like it, given that I generally find mythological names less gendered than, eh, “mortal” names. It sounds neither feminine nor masculine to me. At any rate, it doesn’t seem cruel, but definitely odd.
[name]Atlas[/name] has strong male connotations. I don’t think anyone would ever look at [name]Atlas[/name] and think “girl”
I guess it could work in the middle, if you’re one of those people who think that anything goes in the middle place.
[name]Atlee[/name] could be an alternative. I had an ex-boyfriend named [name]Atlee[/name], but it isn’t attached to a well-known male figure.
Hmm, for a boy it’s GREAT! On my short list as a matter of fact. However, on a little girl it’s just cruel. MAYBE she could pull it off in high school, but the first several years of school would be brutal.
I totally agree with this.
It has an interesting sound, but the story of [name]Atlas[/name] is super masculine (and also tragic). I agree with the middle spot suggestions. For a similar sound, [name]Alice[/name] up front is very similar and a lot more wearable. Or even [name]Agnes[/name].
I would definately not use it on a girl, even as a middle name , unless it was a family surname. The imagery associated with this name is more masculine than almost any other name. Besides the mythologal figure, it make me think of body builder [name]Charles[/name] [name]Atlas[/name]. I do really like this name but I’d save it for a boy.
I like it on a girl. I was actually considering this name for my daughter.
I think it’s a terrible name for a girl. It’s got a hyper-masculine image, and I that’s just not something I’d want see on a little girl. It’s a tough enough sell for a boy.
I consider [name]Atlas[/name] to be super masculine, especially since in Greek mythology (correct me if I’m wrong) [name]Atlas[/name] was the man who was so strong he help up the [name]Earth[/name] (though not by choice.) So I say no to this, even in the middle. It’s just too masculine for a girl.
You’re not gonna want to hear this, but I also think it’s too masculine for a girl. The Greek myth assocation, as well as [name]Charles[/name] [name]Atlas[/name], are hard enough to live up to for a boy. I don’t think bestowing it upon a girl would be much better. Unless it’s a family surname for instance, I wouldn’t use it. [name]Even[/name] then, only in the middle name slot.
No. [name]Just[/name] no.
