If You Could Choose Your Nickname, What Would It Be?

Unfortunately, not all of us can choose our nicknames. I have been a [name_u]Jaz[/name_u] and a [name_m]Jazzy[/name_m] all my life, and I don’t like it at all. But it has stuck, and it will most likely be stuck forever.

What would you nickname yourself?

I quite like the idea of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. People have done it for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], so why not? However, it’s not as intuitive as [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Livvy[/name_f]. Sigh.

My name is [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], and that’s all I’ve ever been called. I think I’d like to go by [name_f]Mandy[/name_f] or even [name_m]Manny[/name_m], but no nicknames like that have ever stuck. I’ve always just been [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]. Not that I’m complaining, of course, I like it just fine - I just think I’d make a great [name_m]Manny[/name_m].

My name is [name_f]Julia[/name_f], and the nickname I get the most is Julsie, which is odd. I’ve always wanted to be a [name_u]Jules[/name_u], and even considered changing my name. However, it’s never caught on.

My name is [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], which for most people is impossible to pronounce. I’ve always wished that [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] had caught on, because I get so many pronunciations of my name that I respond to almost anything. And [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is cute but it can be mature to, so I can see why it has become popular. But I guess my name suits me so I don’t need one.

I wish I could get everyone to call me [name_u]Wren[/name_u] :frowning:

Everyone calls me Nay-nay (among other NN’s, that one being the most prevalent) and honestly I don’t mind. I think [name_f]May[/name_f] would be better, though.

I have many nicknames:

  • Most people call me [name_f]Cyn[/name_f].
  • Some prefer to call me [name_f]Tia[/name_f] ([name_f]Thea[/name_f]?).
  • One of my best friends calls me [name_u]Angel[/name_u].
  • Sometimes my childhood friends called me [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I’ve never met most of them again though.
  • My Dad mostly calls me [name_f]Mei[/name_f].
  • Most of my high school friends call me my by fn and ln initials, CP.
  • Nameberry is the only online forum where I use my real name. Most of my online friends call me [name_f]Luna[/name_f].

I just couldn’t get people to call me [name_f]Cinzia[/name_f]. I love the Italian pronunciation, but of course no one will use that.

I’d MUCH rather be [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] over [name_u]Jess[/name_u].

I’ve tried to do this - my friends in school called me [name_f]Chelle[/name_f] which I liked but which never really caught on properly.
A lot of people seem to want to call me Rach (I don’t really like it and try to insist they call me by my full name, I only really let my family get away with Rach)
I wish I could be [name_u]Ray[/name_u]/[name_u]Rae[/name_u] instead of Rach but my aunt is names Reay (pronounced like [name_u]Ray[/name_u]) so that wouldn’t work. I did manage to get a group of my friends to call me [name_u]Ray[/name_u] but it eventually changed into [name_u]Ray[/name_u]-[name_u]Ray[/name_u] and [name_m]Raymond[/name_m]! It seems to be impossible to choose your own nicknames!

My name is [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] and I’ve never had a nickname. I did have a teacher at school when I was young who tried to call me Row, but I hate that. I have a young cousin who calls me Wena because when she was a baby (as with all small children) she couldn’t pronounce my name.

I used to wish I had a cool nickname, but I’m pretty happy going by my full name now.

My name is [name_f]Athena[/name_f], and I’ve had a score of nicknames, but I would never let them be used in public. While I prefer using my full name, if I could choose a nickname, I’d choose [name_f]Thea[/name_f].

I’m [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], mn [name_f]Vienna[/name_f]. I go by [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. When I was a young child, I went by [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], then switched to [name_f]Enna[/name_f], and then to the complete [name_f]Vienna[/name_f], and at the end of college I began going by [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. If it were all my decision, I’d go by Vea (Vee-uh).

I wouldn’t really want to nickname myself anything. It would be refreshing to be called a nickname by someone though because everyone has always just called me by my first name, which is [name_f]Kara[/name_f]. I guess some cute ones that I’d like would be [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] or “care-bear”.

I always have wanted to be an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]! [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is my name, and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] isn’t really close enough to be a nickname. Ugh.

My name is [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] and somehow I ended up saddled with [name_u]Allie[/name_u] as a nickname, which I haven’t ever cared for. I used to try to get people to call me [name_u]Alex[/name_u] but my mother always ruined it by introducing me as [name_u]Allie[/name_u] to someone who was ‘kind’ enough to then inform everyone I wanted to be called [name_u]Allie[/name_u].

Currently, I am trying to get [name_f]Andi[/name_f] to catch on. It fits me much better than anything else. I’ve considered just changing my name to [name_f]Andi[/name_f], actually

If I had my way, I’d be [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. This is a stretch from my name [name_f]Valeria[/name_f], but I love this nickname. I have always been [name_f]Lera[/name_f] for the Russians and [name_u]Val[/name_u] for others (I dislike [name_u]Val[/name_u], it’s plain ugly to me). [name_u]Allie[/name_u], I think, suits me and it’s beautiful. I started introducing myself as [name_u]Allie[/name_u], I hope it will stick.

[name_f]Annie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. I’ve tried going by both before, but they never stuck.

[name_f]Lise[/name_f]. I’m [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], and the nn I usually get (if anything) is [name_u]Ash[/name_u], or if it’s my sisters, Ashey (barf). [name_f]Lise[/name_f] isn’t exactly intuitive, but you can pull the “lee” part from [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], and the “S” from my surname. Plus, [name_f]Lise[/name_f] is much more interesting and feminine than my own name (which I share with my uncle. Again, barf. haha. I love my name, but I hate the nn Ashey, and that I share my name with my uncle… le sigh). I’ve started trying to incorporate it into my life in little places here and there–when meeting new people, I try to introduce myself as [name_f]Lise[/name_f], when I get packages, I fill it out for [name_f]Lise[/name_f] SURNAME, etc., but it’s hard if I’m with someone who knows me as [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and doesn’t know that I want to try and go by [name_f]Lise[/name_f]… if they hear me talk about [name_f]Lise[/name_f], they’re like, “Oh, there she goes again. The only person I know who makes up fake names for herself…” le sigh. When I got the job I have now last February, I had considered trying to go exclusively by a nn (back then, I had been thinking [name_f]Lela[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Lise[/name_f], but [name_f]Lise[/name_f] fits me infinitely better!), but my sister also works there, and I knew they’d never stand for me going by [name_f]Lela[/name_f]/[name_f]Lise[/name_f], because [name_f]Becca[/name_f] would say straightaway, “What? No, her name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]!” I like my name; I even like having a nn, because for years I never had one. My parents called me just [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], so everyone followed suit. But I’d actually like to be able to go by both [name_f]Lise[/name_f] AND [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. I really love both.

I would stick with the intuitive [name_f]Aggie[/name_f]. First, I can’t really think of another nickname for [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]. Anybody?? Also… [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] suits my personality perfectly. I genuinely love it.
