We’re trying to decide between two first names [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], both with MN of [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]. We tend to like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] a little better but aren’t sure it flows as well with the MN. [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] has more family meaning though, and would let us honor both sides of the family. She will be sister to [name_m]Duncan[/name_m]. Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated!
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is really beautiful and stunning! [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is such a great name too! Would you be able to do [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Carol[/name_u] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]? [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is a little choppy since the ending sounds are the same imo.
That was our worry about [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] Carolyn-- the end sounds are too similar. [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is a definite-- it’s my grandma’s name and she will be passing soon, but was SO tickled when we asked if we could use it.
It’s a really tough decision! I think both names work really well with Duncan. I agree that Imogen Carolyn is noticeably a little choppy, but if Imogen really feels like the one for you then I wouldn’t say it’s a dealbreaker! I personally love Joanna (I think Imogen is lovely as well) but I reckon you have to follow your heart with this one, and maybe focus more on what feels more “right” for you to be calling your little girl every day as she grows up, rather than semantics like the perfect flow or honouring multiple people. But that’s just my two cents!
Aw!! In that case I don’t think it matters Definitely go with whatever first name you like better! The more I say [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] the more I get used to it
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]!
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is just beautiful! I agree with @shorie, [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] sounds a little choppy.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f], while the flow isn’t perfect, realistically, how often do you say the first and the middle together?
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is a much nicer first than [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], which feels a little 55-year-old-woman esque in my opinion, and is a bit dated, whereas [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is beautiful and timeless!
Also, she will be exclusively called [name_u]Jo[/name_u] if she’s [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], so unless you love the nickname [name_u]Jo[/name_u] more than [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], I’d say go with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]!
Best of luck to you
How about [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]?
I think I like [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] with big brother !! The nickname options are beautiful!
I like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] more with [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] personally would you maybe consider a different middle name. If [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is an honour name you could use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or another variation of [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]. Keep in mind very few people use their middle name on a day to day basis so my thought would be that if [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] sounds good with your last name then use [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] in the middle. [name_f]My[/name_f] half brother first, middle and last all end with the same sound and it’s not that bad really. So probably less the end sound with [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] but it has the same syllables as [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] which is maybe why it feel a bit clunky. Overall I think [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] would be beautiful, I have just seen it’s your grandma’s name. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Carol[/name_u] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] could also be options that honour your grandma, it’s ultimately your decision though. Best of luck
I love them both but [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] definitely sounds better with [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]
Personally I do not see the appeal of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and I love [name_f]Joanna[/name_f].
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] feels a lot fresher but [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] a lovely flow. I don’t think you can go wrong!
I do not like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] at all to be honest plus [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] flows way better for me. [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] is a perfectly beautiful and uncommon name nowadays. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is more common, though.
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is beautiful, and I love [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] and [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] as siblings.
I prefer [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] as a first name
With [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] as a MN, [name_f]Joanna[/name_f].
Hot take but I don’t think the endings are that similar, I’d say [name_f]Imo[/name_f]-juhn [name_u]Caro[/name_u]-linn - whereas the repeated ‘a’ sound in [name_u]Jo[/name_u]anna Carolyn puts me off. Sorry to put the cat among the pigeons! I also strongly prefer [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] to [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] but that’s subjective.
I second this!
