Is Aubrey too trendy?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! My husband and I are expecting our first daughter, and have been struggling with names for months. We finally found one we both seem to love: [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. (Full name would be [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_f]Ann[/name_f] for my late grandma.) We were both so excited! I thought it was a beautiful full name and loved the nickname options.

Then, I googled it and now I’m second guessing myself. I see all sorts of stuff about how [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is a super trendy or “Teen Mom” name (I have never watched “Teen Mom” in my life). I don’t mind a popular name (our son is [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], which is consistently in the top 20), but I don’t want to give her a super dated or “trashy” name. Before googling it, my only reference to the name was really [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] Plaza and I viewed it as an alternative to [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] with the possibility of calling her “[name_f]Bree[/name_f]!” I kind of wish I never googled it, but I really want to be careful and do due diligence before naming a human being!

So…honest thoughts. [name_m]How[/name_m] is this name? Nice and usable, or trashy/trendy?

I think [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is lovely! [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is a lovely combination too. [name_f]Bree[/name_f] is a cute nickname.

I think if you and your husband both like it, you should use it. I just read the name page on here and it says the name has been around since the Middle Ages, so it doesn’t sound made-up to me, and should age well as it has a history.

I do think it’s a bit 2018, in the sense that in 20 years if you meet an [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] you’ll most likely assume she was born around this time, unlike [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] which is truly timeless. However, I don’t find it “teen mom” considering how popular it is. I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is a bit more timeless, though you most likely don’t like it as much as [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u].

I prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], but you could do a lot worse than [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. I don’t find it “trashy” at all.

Yeah it is. Maybe [name_f]Aura[/name_f] would work

Yeah it is. Maybe [name_f]Aura[/name_f] would work

I would expect an [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] to be my age or younger but I don’t think it’ll be as trendy as something like [name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] or [name_f]Everleigh[/name_f]. I really like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] nn [name_f]Bree[/name_f].

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is more traceable to the last decade but it’s a strong and pretty name and will suit her at all ages. I personally prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] esp with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] but the [name_f]Bree[/name_f] nickname is clearly better than [name_f]Dree[/name_f]!

My due diligence is choosing another A name. That can be a low level pain, esp if you’re having a third.

I don’t find it a teen mom or trashy name. [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is a long-used name, originally on a boy, but so are so many girl names nowadays. I feel like it’s not necessarily as classic of a name as [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] would be, but I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely dated. Plus, it sounds like you really love the nickname [name_f]Bree[/name_f], which is very cute

I think it’s completely fine! I too prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], but [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is a great name!

I don’t find it too trendy or teen mom at all. When I think of teen mom names I think of names like [name_f]Everleigh[/name_f], Brynleigh, Brailee, [name_f]Paislee[/name_f], etc. that are either made-up entirely or misspelled words/surnames. They strike me as trashy while [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is much classier and has a longer history of use.

I’d think that [name_f]Aubree[/name_f] would be trendy but not [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. As others said, I think it does suggest being born within the last decade or so, but it isn’t bad. [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is sweet and is a solid choice. I’d stick with it and not Google any more names…there are people on some sites who have very questionable tastes

I think [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is really pretty! [name_f]Bree[/name_f] is a really cute nickname, too!

I don’t think [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is too trendy. It is very beautiful.

I love the name [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], I think it’s beautiful. I don’t find it overly trendy or anything like that. If you love it then you should use it.

It does seem like it might place her as being born around this time, but I don’t find it trashy in the slightest. [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] seems like a perfectly lovely name, and [name_f]Bree[/name_f] is a sweet nickname.

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is definitely used more frequently than it used to be, especially on a girl rather than a boy, but it’s not overdone. I know a lot of kids and hear [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] more frequently than [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. I think you’re safe with this one.

I find it to be quite trendy. Certainly in its use as a girl name it’s not timeless like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I personally much prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Audra[/name_f], or something else to give you the [name_f]Bree[/name_f] nickname? [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], [name_f]Brenna[/name_f]?

eta And for me it doesn’t particularly work as a sister for Alexander, though that doesn’t matter to everyone.

I don’t think its too trendy, and it certainly isn’t trashy. It might become indicative of the late 2010s but it doesn’t make it a bad name.

I do think that it will become dated. I prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] together and prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] overall.

I don’t think so, and I don’t think it’s at all trashy.
