I still think it’s usable, I didn’t even think of the virus until I saw the comments either. I just think of [name_f]Delta[/name_f] Goodrem.
I think that due to the fact that there are multiple common associations related to ‘Delta’ (not just the current pandemic-related one), [name_f]Delta[/name_f] is just fine to use and shouldn’t have to be ruined by the virus (I mean, hasn’t the pandemic stolen way too much already?) I mean, I imagine if put on a baby right now, yeah, there might be a few initial side-eyes from some people, but I think that once the pandemic situation settles, it’d be just fine to use.
i would say it’s DEFINITELY not usable (particularly here in Australia). even though we have [name_f]Delta[/name_f] Goodrem, the virus is referred to as “delta” here all the time now.
I think that probably don’t call a child that now, But soon it’ll be fine and I think it’s usable. If you aren’t sure, in the future you could see how much it is tied to the virus. Where I am, people just call it Covid even though it’s currently the Delta strain, and I’ve never heard someone refer to it as “Delta” instead of saying covid when talking about the virus. so I don’t think you’ll hear it a lot in conversation about covid.
Also I saw the name Delta today on these forums and I didn’t make any connection to the virus, I only connected it when you mentioned it.
So my opinion is not to use it this year because people might think that you named her after the virus, but in the future it’ll be fine
ETA: also remember there are many bad associations with lots of names and I think that even if it does get a tiny association, it’s not a big deal
I’ve been crushing on [name_f]Delta[/name_f] so much It’s so cool and bright and smooth! I would probably still use it because having thought on it for a while, I still like it regardless of the virus
I have a negative association towards that name but not because of the virus. I currently live in a region that is called the Delta-So I hear that name a lot and wouldn’t float towards it because I hear it so much.
You might get a few looks if you use it this year or next, but I don’t think it’s completely unusable.
I still think of the airline first, and I wouldn’t have used it even before the delta varient for that reason
I still think it’s a nice name and wouldn’t bat an eye at an older child named [name_f]Delta[/name_f]. But I would be a little weirded out if someone used it on a newborn this year.
I think the association will fade fairly fast, though. [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] already feels like a nice name again, 15 years down the line.
I hear people talking about “delta” [virus] all the time. Often just using “delta” (not with “variant”) as the name of this deadly and feared disease. So a definite no go for me.
I hope some day the world is back in a place to think of river deltas, and yes, even the airline!
Until then, [name_f]Alta[/name_f] and [name_f]Della[/name_f], suggested above, are both great alternatives.
I had it on my name list for years! I think it’s a great name. However, I wouldn’t feel comfortable using it now because of the virus. it’s so fresh in everyone’s mind. Maybe in 5-10 years I’d feel comfortable using it again.
It’s a no to the lovely Delta from me. Names you love ruined by COVID?
Haha, I live on an island with no rivers in my daily life so they aren’t really on my mind. Surprised you haven’t heard of the airline though I guess that’s an American thing, maybe?
A love [name_f]Delta[/name_f] ! Probably because of the song [name_f]Delta[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] !
Makes me think of the airline, personally. I don’t think I would consider using it.
I think it’s usable. Not my personal style but it’s an acceptable name.
I never hear anyone talk about the coronavirus variant anymore (if it even still exists).
The airline only exists in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] (I think?). Most Europeans wouldn’t know about it.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] without the covid variant, I wouldn’t use it because of the airline
I also think of a river delta but I don’t think that’s a bad association
[name_m]Reading[/name_m] back over this and seeing I thought it was very much associated with the virus and you might need to give it 10 years
[name_f]Delta[/name_f] variant is SO 2021 (feels like decades ago), if you need a covid name now you’d have to go for omicron? [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe even that’s back to its pre-pandemic usability… which was not high…
So yeh, in short I reckon [name_f]Delta[/name_f] is already totally usable again?
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was the airline (I’ve never even flown with them) and the the Greek alphabet. Covid didn’t cross my mind.

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Delta[/name_f] [name_m]Burke[/name_m]. I agree definitely feels usable!
