Is Delta a no go?

[name_m]Feel[/name_m] weird even asking this but what are your opinions on [name_f]Delta[/name_f] as a name for a girl? Is it a no go because of the virus? What do we think? Maybe in the future if everyone forgets about it? :joy:

I still think it’s usable.

i don’t think Delta is useable anymore, unfortunately. even in ten to twenty years, the association will still be there. i definitely wouldn’t want to share a name with a virus with as much impact as covid / the delta variant

I think right now it’s not a great idea but in the future it will probably be fine. [name_f]Delta[/name_f] is a term that is associated with a lot of things, not just the virus, but right now the pandemic is just in the forefront of everything. If it was a term that was more directly related to the virus, like if you were considering using the name [name_f]Corona[/name_f], then it would be a no forever, but since [name_f]Delta[/name_f] refers to a lot of things I’m hopeful the virus association will fade over time.

Yes I think so too. I had Delta on my list as well but the variant has dimmed its shine for me. I think in a few years it could be usable again depending on how everything goes

I hope so. I only had positive connotations with [name_f]Delta[/name_f] before the variant came along. I was low-key mad that it happened because none of the other letters of the Greek alphabet became this infamous.

In my opinion, it is usable! I really like it!
[name_f]Delta[/name_f] of course has been everywhere because of the virus, but I usually associate it with the greek alphabet letter (and mathematics), the airline company and a brand of coffee in my country

It makes me think virus, airline, daughter of [name_m]Dax[/name_m] Shepherd/Kristen [name_u]Bell[/name_u] in that order.

I don’t love it to begin with, but I wouldn’t saddle a kid with it at this point in time. Like I enjoy the name [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] but won’t be using it due to the popularity of the AI

i’m afraid it’s unusable at this point, especially being associated with something that has had such a devastating impact on the world.

i think names like alta, della, etc would be nice alternatives though!

How have y’all got SO MANY ASSOCIATIONS but none of them include a river delta? I haven’t even heard of the airline or coffee, but while it’s never been on my list, I’ve always thought it nice enough because of the river association. Also makes me think of Delta Goodrem.
…but yeh, at the moment, virus. Very much virus. Maybe be fine in 10-20 years though?

Right now would be a bad time to use it but as soon as the next variant comes along its fair game. I don’t think it needs 10 or 20 years!

Ehh… not a great choice I’d say.

[name_f]My[/name_f] main association is [name_f]Delta[/name_f] Goodrem (depends on where you’re from because I think mainly people from aus/uk/nz would have this association), followed by the letter & symbol, then airline and river delta. I deem all these associations positive - well I’m indifferent to the airline but otherwise. Only negative is the virus :pensive:

my thoughts exactly.

I have been lamenting over this recently too! I absolutely love [name_f]Delta[/name_f] :blue_heart: Unfortunately I have to agree with others who’ve said it’s unusable at this stage, but not necessarily forever. Something like [name_f]Corona[/name_f] will be out of action for at least a century or even more if you ask me, but [name_f]Delta[/name_f] has enough other associations to carry it through. It’s truly a beautiful and strong name and once this awful business has been behind for long enough it’ll probably be okay. But definitely not now. I don’t think it’s fair to a little child, especially one born during or around the pandemic itself. :sob:

If it makes you feel any better I DID NOT think of COVID at all until I read the comments :woman_shrugging:t2::woman_shrugging:t2::woman_shrugging:t2:

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts were of the airlines.

[name_f]Della[/name_f] could always work if you’re concerned.

I wouldn’t do it, but by the time she grows up people aren’t gonna care. It’s not like you’re making her [name_f]Corona[/name_f] or anything.

I agree that I probably would avoid using [name_f]Delta[/name_f], at least for a little while. Maybe down the road when the association isn’t as strong, but right now I think it’s too tied to the virus.

Not at the moment but I think it will be usable in near future. It has other non-covid associations which will matter more when the pandemic effects fade away.

I still think it’s usable, although I’d probably hesitate slightly to use it this year. After that though, I think the association will fade. As others have said, [name_f]Corona[/name_f] is probably out for good, but [name_f]Delta[/name_f] feels far less strongly associated for me. I think of river deltas, the Greek letter, and [name_f]Delta[/name_f] Goodrem.

I think it’s a very pretty name! You might also like [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] as an alternative.
