Is Miley ruined?

I did watch the [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_u]Montana[/name_u] show growing up, and I love the name [name_f]Miley[/name_f]. I find it cute and spunky! I actually was watching some other shows, and the name came up again! Once as a mermaid, and again as just an extra type person. So obviously she’s not the first, but is she the last? I can’t stand the thought of someone seeing the name and instantly thinking “Oh god, white trash porn star media attention seeking drug addict!”
[name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] didn’t seem too affected by Lohan.
[name_f]Brittany[/name_f], I wouldn’t know because I’ve never met one born after Spears came into fame.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] weren’t damaged at all!

So what do you think? Is [name_f]Miley[/name_f] too ruined for use anytime soon? Plus technically her name is [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]

[name_u]Lindsay[/name_u], [name_f]Britney[/name_f] etc. were all well established names long before the celebs you gave as examples. Was there a [name_f]Miley[/name_f] before it stuck as a nickname for [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]? Maybe so. Maybe several. But not enough that it was a well established name before she arrived on the scene. Sorry, but I think everyone will associate the name with [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], at least for the foreseeable future.

I think most people are gonna think [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] but I don’t think it’ll be like that forever. Especially when the child is older, I doubt anyone is gonna think [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] at that point. There may be a few people, but not many.
[name_f]Miley[/name_f] ranked 127th in 2008 and is still in the top 500s now, so people are clearly naming their children [name_f]Miley[/name_f].
I honestly think if you truly like a name, go for it. I chose names like [name_m]Caden[/name_m] and [name_u]Jaycee[/name_u] because I loved the name, yeah I get judgment for them but my children suit their name. And if you ever name a daughter [name_f]Miley[/name_f], she’ll suit the name too.

Also keep in mind, if you wanna be a little different there are various ways to spell [name_f]Miley[/name_f]. ([name_f]Mylee[/name_f], [name_f]Mylie[/name_f], Milee, or Milie)

On a similar note, I’m personally surprised people use [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] (I happen to like it but I’m still surprised) not just because [name_f]Miley[/name_f] is such a big name but so is her father. So if [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] can be used, why not [name_f]Miley[/name_f]?

Honestly, yeah. If I met a baby [name_f]Miley[/name_f] I’d instantly be reminded of [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], but that’s because she’s everywhere right now. In a few years, I’m hoping people will say “[name_f]Miley[/name_f] who?” haha, so here’s to wishing she fades away so you can use the name.

[name_u]Lindsay[/name_u], [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] are all names. [name_f]Miley[/name_f] is not an established name and has become known only because of [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]. There is no way you could name your child [name_f]Miley[/name_f] without everyone knowing you were “inspired” by Miss [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]. She’s a dreadful namesake and the name itself is silly and made up.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] read a previous poster’s suggestion of creatively spelling [name_f]Miley[/name_f] so it’s more unique. Shudder. Please don’t do this!

Agreed. Yes, [name_f]Miley[/name_f] will be associated with Miss [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] for yeasrs to come because she made the name famous. I also agree with sarahmezz.

Original spelling is [name_f]Maile[/name_f]…much prettier!

[name_f]Miley[/name_f] is a childish name in itself and it was “introduced” by [name_u]Cyrus[/name_u]. Everyone will think [name_u]Cyrus[/name_u] as soon as they hear [name_f]Miley[/name_f]. I feel the same way with naming a child a celebrity surname.

Hahah, I love this question! [name_f]IMO[/name_f], Yes! At least for now! Her infamy wont live on forever. Maybe by the time your daughter grows up people won’t remember her anymore.

Yes, it’s “ruined” for the time being. Sadly, [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and her erratic behaviour are not helping the name at all. It’s like watching a train wreck about to happen - there’s nothing to be done until she crashes. Like many celebrities, she will have her time in the spotlight and then fade away (look at her father, [name_u]Billy[/name_u] [name_u]Ray[/name_u] and his Achy Breaky Heart). People have the attention span of a flea nowadays so there will soon be another “flavour of the year” who will upstage everyone else.

Yes, they’d definitely think [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]. I met a baby Myleigh and the father spelled her name out to me, completely unprompted. I’ve wondered if his wife chose the name and he chose the spelling to distance it from [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] or if his wife chose the name and the spelling and he just wanted to keep things as clear as possible when introducing his daughter. It was very interesting; the baby herself was adorable.

But as people have pointed out, [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u]/[name_u]Lindsey[/name_u] and [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]/[name_f]Brittney[/name_f]/[name_f]Britney[/name_f] were established names before those celebrities emerged, whereas [name_f]Miley[/name_f] is a nickname associated with only one celebrity.

Anything [name_f]Miley[/name_f] is just destroyed for now - and likely will be until our grandchildren are having children, I think. I never liked it before, but now it’s even more dreadful. And yes, [name_u]Lindsey[/name_u], [name_f]Britney[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Selena[/name_f], all of those were originally names, and [name_f]Miley[/name_f]'s birth name wasn’t even [name_f]Miley[/name_f] - she was [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Miley[/name_f] was a nickname that she adopted and later changed her name to.

I came here to suggest the [name_f]Maile[/name_f] spelling as well. The only pop culture connection that I can think of is the character in the [name_m]Elvis[/name_m] movie, [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m]. It is pronounced just the same as [name_f]Miley[/name_f], but it’s an actual Polynesian name as opposed to a childhood nickname connected to a pop star. In my opinion all of the [name_f]Mylee[/name_f] type variants are pretty bad, [name_f]Miley[/name_f] is at least familiar, but [name_f]Maile[/name_f] is the nicest of all. It has some history & meaning & a sound that you like.

[name_f]Miley[/name_f] ever not ruined?

It just does not strike me as a fair name to give a person.

Thaaank you for [name_f]Maile[/name_f]! You have made my night!

Yes. I grew up watching [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_u]Montana[/name_u] and I don’t find [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] a role model at all. In my opinion she’s gone crazy, I have seen all of her “crazy” videos (VMA’s, 23, we can’t stop, wrecking ball). [name_f]Miley[/name_f] is a nickname she adopted as her first name. I find [name_f]Miley[/name_f] more masculine as a nickname for [name_m]Miles[/name_m] I love it

I love the name [name_f]Miley[/name_f], and by the time ur little princess is a teenager, [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] will be long forgotten. It’s a gorgeous name, I say go for it.

I think it’s ruined. If she had been one of those good role model’s, it wouldn’t have been, but well she’s a wreck - but she will be forgotten soon enough.

Honestly we don’t hear much about [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] or [name_f]Britney[/name_f] Spears anymore. When I was younger and interested in gossip, it was mostly them that made scandals, along with Lohan.

I agree she will most likely fade into obscurity. But what if she doesn’t? Also, do you want to risk naming your kid something and keeping your fingers crossed for years?

[name_m]Even[/name_m] if she’s not famous anymore in five years, I would definitely still associate the name with her. Like I do with the spelling [name_f]Britney[/name_f].
