Is Wednesday really unusable?

[name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] [name_m]Adams[/name_m] didn’t come to mind right away when I saw the post, I thought of the calendar. But yes, it does bring up her image.
I’m not big on day of the week names or word names (although I do like [name_f]September[/name_f], [name_u]November[/name_u], and love [name_u]December[/name_u]). I can see the appeal with [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]. [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] would be the next best one I guess. I don’t like it, but I wouldn’t say it is completely unusable. But if you like it, why not? The reason I would consider it unusable is the teasing potential. “Haha, you are a day of the week.” But that would only be in elementary school. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be a day of the week when I fill out a college app or a job app (being a teenager); I couldn’t see it aging well. But it sounds nice and if you like it, than go for it. There is a lot worse names out there, it just wouldn’t be my favorite.

It’s not unusable, but you aren’t going to be able to avoid the Addams connection. There’s also this:

[name_f]Monday[/name_f]'s child is fair of face,
[name_f]Tuesday[/name_f]'s child is full of grace,
[b][name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]'s child is full of woe,[/b]
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
[name_m]Saturday[/name_m]'s child works hard for a living,
But the child who is born on the Sabbath [name_u]Day[/name_u]
Is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

…which I’m pretty sure is why the creators of the Addams Family named her [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f].

I have a hard time imagining a person wearing the name of a day of the week. It’s just not my thing I guess.

“[name_f]Monday[/name_f]'s Child” is the only one real negative connotation that I would attach to that name. I have a feeling that the poem “[name_f]Monday[/name_f]'s Child” actually had something to do with the naming of the [name_m]Adams[/name_m] Family character too.

But [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is a very pretty and unique name. If you love it, use it.

Not to mention that ironic Halloween costumes are the best costumes ever…

Edited for duplicity because southern.maple beat me to my reference.

I love the nod to paganism and the gothic humor in the Addams’ Family reference. Would you nn her Woden, [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Wendy[/name_f]?

I actually love quirky day/month names, and [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] and [name_f]September[/name_f] are fairly high on my long list : ) My mother had a co-worker named [name_f]September[/name_f] (yes, born in that month), and no one thought it was too bizarre. As for the poem, I was born on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], and the connotation had absolutely no infraction upon my well-being or confidence. I’d say go for it, with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] it is an awesome sib-set.

P.S. I always liked [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] on the Addam’s Family. She was so wonderfully somber : )

It reminds me of [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] Addams and I think its usable I’ve been crushing on [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] lately and [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is a cute way to get it.
I am a [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]'s child as well and I find nothing wrong with the rhyme.

Thank you to everyone who replied, whether pro- or anti-[name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]! We are going over middle names for [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] and it will be on our list soon!

ameliawilliams - Thank you for your comment!

sarahmezz - I wondered that, too but didn’t want to ask. Thanks your your reply!

giinkies - I never thought to actually look at the stats. [name_f]Leticia[/name_f] was a good alternative.

hardertobreathe - I guess I wasn’t thinking of it as a common word, only a character and awesome name. Thank you for your reply and honesty.

southern.maple - Thank you for posting the poem, I actually forgot to look it up again.

lifewontwait89 - Oh, the costume possibilities!

rkrd - I hadn’t considered Woden as a nickname! I ran it by SO and we both really love it, personality pending. [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], Woden, and [name_m]Wes[/name_m]. Thank you!

chrisco - Thanks for your reply! I love [name_f]Perpetua[/name_f] Azélie is gorgeous, by the way.

ebenezer.scrouge - I just looked it up, and it turns out that I’m a [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]'s child, too!

I like [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], but it only makes sense to me if there’s something important about the day for you (i.e., was she born on a [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]?). If it’s just a random day of the week and you like the sound, I’d be a little more hesitant.
Nicknames include Wends, Ness, and [name_u]Day[/name_u].

I kind of prefer [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f], and I don’t generally love word names at all. But it’s…okay.

[name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, I think. I say go for it, and agreed that it sounds lovely with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]! Honestly, I don’t think the Addams Family connection is too big of a deal, although there might be teasing on that front (although there’s always teasing, no matter the name).

I also love the idea of the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] for it. [name_f]Precious[/name_f]! [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is an incredible name, so I say yes.

I’m not a fan of it, or any other day of the week name. -day sounds sort of harsh for a girl. I think of “[name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]'s child is full of woe” as well…

I think it could be a pretty name and see why it’s in your list, I like it. However I’d want to have an idea, it it were me, of what I’d name siblings. I think especially if you’ll only be having one or two more kids, [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] could be hard to pair with other names and keeping [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] from being the odd one out or going too far ‘out there’/themed with other word name(s).

Want to add that the suggestion of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is just stunning. What a lovely combination and balance of styles.

I like it! Prepare for weird looks if your daughter isn’t, in fact, born on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], though.

I actually like it  but with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] I would suggest you to use [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

I think the [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] Addams connection is really cool, actually. I’d say it’s a plus, even.

I like the idea of [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] if you absolutely must use it. [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is a little much, imo.

I actually really adore [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]. It’s a real guilty pleasure name for me, and I would have given it some serious thought, but my father ruined it. [name_m]How[/name_m] did he ruin it? He ruined it by every wednesday quoting the hump day commercial. I don’t want to be the person who ruins a name for someone, but for anyone who may not be aware, apparently wednesday is hump day.

I’d still consider it for a quirky middle name though.

Once again I wish to apologize if I ruin this name. I really do adore it.

I think that [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is a usable name. I knew someone who was named [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f] and she didn’t get teased. A nickname option for [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] I have is Nes.

I think it sounds gorgeous. If you’re really on the fence about it, try seeing if you can find a good coordination for it, using it as a middle name. But I think that [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is an adorable name.

pistachio, you asked why I’d only use it if the baby were born on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]/it had some significance? Maybe a short answer would be: I’m very particular about those things.

When I was little, my older sister had a good friend named [name_f]April[/name_f]. I thought that was such a lovely name when I was five, and she was someone I looked up to. Then, I found out [name_f]April[/name_f]'s birthday was in [name_u]June[/name_u]. I was appalled. Five-year-old me was engraged. [name_m]How[/name_m] could they name her [name_f]April[/name_f] if she was born in [name_u]June[/name_u]?! What did it mean to them?! Why not just use [name_u]June[/name_u] if they like month names?! WHY?! I remember yelling at my sister like it was her fault, and she laughed at me.

This habit has continued ever since. A [name_f]Summer[/name_f] born in [name_u]December[/name_u]? Gag me. A little one named [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]? Never. None of my babies will be named [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], no matter how much I like it, because how can I guarantee they’ll have red hair? Yes, I’m that anal about it.
