What would you think of calling a little girl [name_m]Jack[/name_m]?
I’ve always had this idea that it would make a cute nickname for a girl. I don’t think it would actually be a part of her name though… it’s kind of a family tradition to do this as my great grandma went by [name_m]Jack[/name_m] but it wasn’t a part of her name at all, just a random nickname. Then one of my younger brothers is [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] but for some reason we all called him [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and it just stuck. I had thought to name my daughter something elegant and longer that she could perhaps use when she got older but thought it would be sweet to just call her [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think she’d be prefer to go by a nn off of her actual name though?
I’ve never had a nickname so I wouldn’t know. However I did switch to being called by my middle name when I was in my teens so I’d give her that option to go by her traditional name(s) if she ever expressed disliking the nickname as she grew.
I think it’s a cute nn, I would have it be part of her full name somehow though - like [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] or [name_u]Joan[/name_u] (because [name_u]Joan[/name_u] is the female version of [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a nn for [name_m]John[/name_m]), as a middle name
I think we might end up calling her [name_u]Jackie[/name_u]/Jack/Jack-[name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I know we used all those variations growing up for my little brother. I always thought it was the best nn but didn’t know if it would suit a girl as well. [name_f]May[/name_f] be one of those I just have to try out!
I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a super cute nickname for a girl! I would have her first name be [name_f]Jaclyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f] though.
I personally don’t feel that [name_m]Jack[/name_m] can be used as a name for a girl other than a nn as most people with names like that are called things like [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f], [name_u]Jackie[/name_u], [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Jaclyn[/name_f], etc!
but names that could also include jack as a nn could be:
[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
Séamaisíona ([name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] in Irish)
Jessminda
[name_f]Jadene[/name_f]
Jaquina
There’s a female chef called [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] (I’m not sure if it is her birth name or not but it is what she is called on TV and on her books) so I can see [name_m]Jack[/name_m] on a girl. As a cute nickname with a longer formal name I think it would be really sweet and spunky. [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] nn [name_m]Jack[/name_m] as a suggestion?
I’m not usually that blunt, but please don’t. Everybody is going to assume she’s a boy when they see her name on paper, and I bet it will be very tiring to explain that it is indeed her name and not a nickname or a joke. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] can be used as a pet name for [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] or any J name, really, maybe you could consider giving her another full name and calling her [name_m]Jack[/name_m] at home.
I love [name_m]Jack[/name_m] on a girl! I know two female Jacks (though one spells it [name_m]Jac[/name_m]), and I’ve always thought the name was so cool! I do think it would work better as a nickname or middle though, as I know some people aren’t a fan of more masculine sounding names on girls, and your daughter may feel that way too. I second the suggestion of [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] nn [name_m]Jack[/name_m]!
I think of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] too, @floatinthesky, and also the model [name_m]Jac[/name_m] Jagaciak. I really like it as a nickname!
I like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] as a nn for a girl but personally I would go with a name that you could get [name_m]Jack[/name_m] from (even if it’s just a “J” name). I think since it’s a nn for her uncle and Great-grandma it could work even if its a stretch from her given name. A girl named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] makes me think of Gentleman [name_m]Jack[/name_m] (the show and song about [name_u]Anne[/name_u] Lister) which I don’t think many people will think of but its a positive association for me.
I think it would be a really cute nickname for a girl named [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]! (I personally don’t care for [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] too much but it’s not a bad name either).
I think it’s cute as a nickname but it’s very, very popular for boys right now and so not only could she be one of several Jacks in her class but all the other Jacks will be boys. I love the suggestion of [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] nn [name_m]Jack[/name_m]
