Jameson for boy or girl? And does it make you want to drink?

[name]Hi[/name]!

My husband and I are expecting our first baby and we don’t know what we’re having. [name]Both[/name] our dads are named [name]James[/name] and we always wanted to name our first son [name]James[/name]. However, my husband’s brother is also [name]James[/name] and while I really want to honor our dads, I’d like to give our son a unique name. Also, who knows if we’re going to have a son. I’m beginning to think [name]Jameson[/name] might be nice for a girl too. So, my questions:

  • [name]Jameson[/name] for a boy. Cute or does it make you think of whiskey?
  • [name]Jameson[/name] for a girl - will she be tortured her whole life or is it sweet?

[name]Jameson[/name] is my brother’s name. People never think of the drink. [name]Jameson[/name] would NOT be good for a girl. My brother was named [name]Jameson[/name] because my mom wanted [name]James[/name], and my dad didn’t so they compromised on [name]Jameson[/name]. My brother goes by [name]Jamie[/name] and he loves his name. I would definitely recommend it for a boy, but, again, NOT for a girl! I think [name]Jameson[/name] would be a great way to honor your family members.

I like [name]Jameson[/name], but only for a boy. I strongly dislike male names on females. That being said, I don’t think that a girl named [name]Jameson[/name] would be particularly tortured, but she may face some animosity for her obviously masculine name. [name]Jameson[/name] would be delightful on a little boy, and we can help you find something equally delightful and meaningful for a girl.

I love [name]Jameson[/name] for a boy but think it’s truly awful for a girl. For a girl, I would suggest using either using [name]Jamie[/name] or picking another name all together.

[name]Jameson[/name] for a boy. To masculine sounding for a girl to carry.

[name]Jameson[/name] is all boy. A great name…I still prefer [name]James[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Gemma[/name]/[name]Jemma[/name] for a girl?

[name]Jameson[/name] is all boy to me. I really don’t see how people perceive this name as feminine. It’s composed of two very masculine elements: [name]James[/name] & son. I really like [name]Jameson[/name] to honor his family members. Have you considered using a form of [name]James[/name] from a different language?

[name]Seamus[/name]
[name]Diego[/name]
[name]Jago[/name]
[name]Hamish[/name]
[name]Giacomo[/name]
[name]Santiago[/name]
[name]Jacques[/name]

Some of these might seem too ethnic depending on your heritage.

Yeah, I agree with the others. [name]Jameson[/name] is great for a boy - not great for a girl. I know there are many names with “son” endings that are being used for girls ([name]Maddison[/name], [name]Emmerson[/name], [name]Addison[/name], etc.), but the beginning of the name, [name]James[/name], is just too masculine this to work, [name]IMO[/name].

Yeah, I wouldn’t use [name]Jameson[/name] for a girl!

[name]Both[/name]! The only [name]Jameson[/name] I know is a girl and she carries it well. She is a beautiful Southern (US) young woman and a beauty pageant winner. I think the name could work for both a girl or a boy. [name]Don[/name]'t fret it can totally work for your girl, she will grow into it. And I don’t for a second think of the drink when I hear the name.

i’ve noticed that most berries using the forums don’t like females getting masculine names, but i really like both [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] for girls (i’m also fond of [name_m]Jason[/name_m]). it’s 2015 and with all we known about gender identity, who knowns if my kid’s gender will even match their sex, so i’m all for the mixing of names … now if only males would start using feminine names …

I love this name, but only on boys. On girls it would sound kind of odd in my opinion. I also like the [name_u]Jamison[/name_u] spelling.

I’ve never met anybody named [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], but it’s on my list of favorite boy names. It would also be a great name for a dog or cat.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it for a boy. It would certainly be quirky for girl! I would only do it if it were a family/honor name so there was a story behind it so that she might wear the name with pride. With a unisex nickname like [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], I suppose why not!

I love [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] for both boys and girls! I think it is lovely!

My vote would be for a boy, ( [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] is the only female I know with that name )

I like it on either, especially with nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and since it holds a lot of meaning for your family.

As a college student, [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] does remind me of the drink. I do like it for a boy though, but not for a girl. It’s a cute name for a little girl, but I can’t picture it on an adult woman. It’s an ok name for me.

I’m not a huge fan of [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] as a name, but if you do use it, I’d strongly encourage you to only use it for a son. It does remind me of the whiskey and if I heard of it on a girl, I’d think of [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and the whiskey, which is rough. I think a boy would have better luck with it.

I love a previous poster’s suggestion of looking for a version of [name_u]James[/name_u] from another country; [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] is a favorite of mine.

Another way to honor the Jameses in your family could be to give a name that also starts with a J (if you’re looking for your child to have a more unique name within the family).

I love [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] for a boy! Um I like that it reminds me of whiskey, but in a good way. Like a lush green Scottish meadow, where I would imagine it being made.
I don’t mind it for a girl. Maybe with a very feminine middle name to off set it? Something like [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f], nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]-[name_f]Anne[/name_f], Or [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]…

I’m a girl and my name is [name_u]Jamison[/name_u]. I hated it as a kid but love it now. There’s almost never been a time where there was another [name_u]Jamison[/name_u] in my class and it’s so convenient.
