what matters most to you in a name?

i think the meanings behind it. like if it was the name of a character in your favorite book or show as a kid, or if it honors a friend or a loved one.

what’s your absolute favorite boys name?

i would say it’s hayden lucas, but laurence, lincoln, jonah, and alexander are definitely up there.

what’s your absolute favorite girls name?

probably natasha or josephine, but i’m into way too many girls names.

which name on your list is the most meaningful to you?

josephine. it means shall grow. i’m thinking of changing my name to josephine or jo because i’ve changed a ton over the past year, and i felt like it would be cool to show that i’ve grown ig.

which name on your list has the prettiest meaning?

i’m actually not big on name meanings but: felicity and felix mean happy
josephine meaning shall grow
annie means grace
natasha means birthday
leonardo (or leo) means lion (i think of it as a brave name)
everett means brave or strong
jonah means dove :pleading_face:

which name on your list conjures up the strongest imagery? what do you picture?

probably leonardo. i imagine either young leo dicaprio, or my future son, who’s so handsome, and has bright blue eyes and dirty blonde hair, & he’s super brave and adventurous.

what’s a name that you loved at first sight?

what’s a name that you’re crushing on right now?

girls: clara hermione & cecily meredith
boys: atticus & jonah edmund

which name has been on your list for the longest time?

i just totally re-did my list, but hayden lucas & alexandra caroline have been on and off my list for a long time.

jonah edmund and collins kate.

ah thank you for this! I’m nuts about these threads too

  1. in order of importance – that I like it (which is mostly made up of how it looks & how it sounds), that it has some kind of significance to me (either by being any kind of honour name or just feeling special), and a great meaning’s always a plus
  2. atm: hugo (runner ups: freddie, otto, vincent)
  3. atm: alma (runner ups: mara, frances, romy)
  4. anouk probably, it honours a few annas who mean a lot to me while still having a cute twist to it
  5. hm … I don’t usually look up the meanings of my combos but I have one that I love, lior ocean (‘light over the ocean’)
  6. my favourites usually make me picture something softer, like a smooth meadow, but an older combo of mine, gideon brave, makes me picture a mighty warrior because that’s what I feel in this combo. otto abram is a combo I’m considering and it also feels pretty strong to me. I imagine an old horse stable and a smith for some reason
  7. alma. one of my favourite girl names for ever, I came across it browsing through popularity lists quite some time ago. instant obsession. interestingly, I didn’t actually like my favourite boy name (hugo) for quite a long time, I only started loving it as much as I do now a few months ago

  16. little women again (especially beth, jo & meg), but I also really like jeanie, ferris and sloane from ferris bueller’s day off and mary, george, and winifred from mary poppins
  17. I have a stuffed toy wolf called slush and back then, I thought it was such an iconic name. also teddy, a teddy bear, and billie, another teddy bear.

I’m not big on name meaning but all the Amharic names in my signature are meaningful in that they express my possible future kids’ Ethiopian heritage. I do love the mythology behind the name [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]

[name_m]Judah[/name_m]- long time love I had to give up when I started dating my current SO- he pointed out the Tribe of [name_m]Judah[/name_m] association which I agree sadly makes the name pretty unusable for a baby that would be half black

Cut to me looking up all my names meanings :sweat_smile: from the ones in my UC [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] is pretty cute, it means “songbird”. [name_f]Betsabe[/name_f] means “daughter of the oath” which is pretty cool, Azucena means “madonna lily” which I think is nice. I never pay attention to meanings unless they’re honors :sweat_smile:

6. which name on your list conjures up the strongest imagery? what do you picture?
Hmmmm probably [name_m]Osiris[/name_m], [name_f]Azula[/name_f] and [name_u]Kahlo[/name_u]. I’ll do some small aesthetics~

[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] and [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] were some of my first name loves, so I’ll put these even though there’s a lot more

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f], I put it on my list after my great grandma [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]

Ummmm, I can’t remember I’m always adding stuff to my long list but [name_u]Amal[/name_u] is pretty new to my short list

11. what’s the biggest “guilty pleasure” name on your list?
[name_u]Athaliah[/name_u] :disappointed: I love it but she was a deplorable woman in the Bible

[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] :sob: I absolutely love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] but I don’t like how it sounds in Spanish, hoo-go, also it sounds exactly like the Spanish word (in my dialect) for juice (jugo)

[name_f]My[/name_f] aunt found a Proxima in my family tree while doing ancestry lines! It had actually been on my list before I found that so I got really excited when she told me that

1. What matters most to you in a name?
I probably used to say that I don’t like names that are very popular, but I’ve found that doesn’t matter to me as much anymore. Now the only think that matters to me in a name is simply if I like it.
2. What’s your absolute favorite boy’s name?
I’d say [name_u]Luca[/name_u] or [name_m]Perseus[/name_m], but sadly as I won’t be able to use [name_u]Luca[/name_u], than I’d say [name_m]Perseus[/name_m].
3. What’s your absolute favorite girl’s name?
Definitely [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], there isn’t really a reason I just love the name
4. Which name in your list is the most meaningful to you?
[name_u]James[/name_u], I would like to use it as a middle name and it honors my older brother

I think it’s just how much it makes you smile when you see and say it.

I think that I’m going to say [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. It’s my cat’s name. His full name is [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], but we always call him [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. And I kind of love [name_u]Ari[/name_u] more.

  • what’s your absolute favourite girls’ name?

I won’t pick a pet’s name here, because I have two girl pets. :joy: So, it could be [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. But counting a name that I haven’t given to an animal, I’m going w/Guinevere.

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]! [name_f]My[/name_f] late dad was [name_m]David[/name_m], so I think it’s a great way to honor him. And it’s just so cheerful & my favorite flower.

[name_m]Colm[/name_m] means ‘dove’ & [name_m]Liev[/name_m] means ‘heart’. And I fell in love w/both of these names w/out knowing the meanings. I think I’ll go w/Liev.

I think that I like soft names in general. Probably [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is just a well put together yet creative & fun loving.

I guess [name_f]Salome[/name_f] for a girl & [name_m]Albert[/name_m] for a boy. [name_m]Albert[/name_m] was my grandpa’s name, & I’ve always had it in the mn spot. [name_f]My[/name_f] dh hates all of my boy names, but likes this for a fn. And come to think of it, so do I.

Hm. Well, [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] from Shameless. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I named my doggy [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] before I had seen the show. Her character is kind of a mess!

  • what was your favourite stuffed animal/doll/action figure named as a kid?

Oh, I named so many! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite teddy is [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] though. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom gave her to me for Valentine’s [name_u]Day[/name_u] when I was seven, so it seemed like an appropriate name.

  4. fiadh marin :green_heart: fiadh pays homage to my Irish relatives who didn’t use Irish names in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] for assimilation purposes, and it also nods to my time spent in [name_f]Nara[/name_f], Japan, a town filled with deer. marin is for mary, my mom’s middle name, and marin county, where half of my relatives live, and where i find myself peaceful among the redwoods and crashing waves. all together, fiadh marin means ‘wild of the sea’, which i think is just stunning.

  5. well, either fiadh marin, or phoebe dove, meaning ‘radiant shining moon of peace’

  6. agatha harbor! she’s all nighttime at a pier, eating takeout and staring up at the ferris wheel to me. fields of flowers and skipping down a rainy city street in the glow of neon restaurant signs. that sort of eeriness that’s comforting!

  1. what matters most to you in a name?
    A mix of a lot of things, really. A name with a lovely sound, meaning and connection to something special to me is an absolute win!

  2. what’s your absolute favourite boys’ name?
    I rarely stick with one name for a long time, but since I’ve discovered it, [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] has been very high on my list. I would say it’s my favourite right now.

  3. what’s your absolute favourite girls’ name?
    Same with the boys in that there’s not a lot of consistency, but [name_f]Anya[/name_f] is one that’s been high on my list for a long time.

  4. which name on your list is the most meaningful to you?
    For a girl, [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] - It’s similar to my nan’s name, [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and all her daughters have middle names which are a variation; [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] and [name_u]Marie[/name_u]. One of my aunts is also called [name_u]Anne[/name_u], so this name honours so many people at once and I absolutely adore it!
    For a boy, [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] - It has the same meaning as my surname, is a family surname on my nan’s side, and is a funny reference to my grandad looking like [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_m]Ford[/name_m]!

    [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] - ‘beautiful as a poem’

  6. which name on your list conjures up the strongest imagery? what do you picture?
    [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] [name_f]Wildrose[/name_f] - I picture an isolated cottage on the moors with rolling hills, reading under a willow tree by a lake

  7. what’s a name that you loved at first sight?
    Eirwen - It has a bit of everything, a lovely sound, meaning (snow white) and meaning to me, since it honours my Welsh roots.

  8. what’s a name that you’re crushing on right now?
    [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] - I recently came across someone with his name, and for some reason I fell in love with it hearing it on an actual person, even though I’d never paid it much attention before. It would also be a nice honour name for my brother. His middle name is [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], but I much prefer [name_m]Josiah[/name_m].

    Rosenna - It’s a name I invented as a child, but I still really love the sound.

    Firewood - It’s really not a name, and it’s extremely unlikely that I’d use it in real life, but it conjurs up such lovely, warm imagery.

    I don’t know a lot of names on my family tree, but I have a great grandmother called [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], which stands out amongst the very common names everywhere else on the tree.

    I don’t know if [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] by [name_u]Billy[/name_u] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] counts since it’s not actual a name in the song, so if not, All For Leyna by [name_u]Billy[/name_u] [name_m]Joel[/name_m].

    [name_f]Eilonwy[/name_f] from The Chronicles of Prydain

  16. what’s your favourite name from a movie or tv show?
    [name_f]Eilonwy[/name_f] from The [name_m]Black[/name_m] Cauldron (an adaption of the book above)

    I still have a bear called [name_f]Emma[/name_f], which I named because [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is one of my mum’s favourite names she never quite got to use.

that is looks and sounds nice. I also tend to like unique names more than common names. cool meanings are always a bonus!

Freydís - although I don’t always have her as my number 1, but overall she’s my ultimate love

Leo - it’s my grandfathers name
Inga - a variation of my mothers name

Freydís - it can mean noble woman, goddess, lady or priestess
6. which name on your list conjures up the strongest imagery? what do you picture?
Freydís (again) - I picture a brave woman with long, wild hair, wearing an armour decorated with the finest silver. She’s riding her grand black horse up the hill, leading her army into battle. She is the noble queen of her own country, living in a castle where fires are lit and people are laughing and enjoying the feast. Ancient songs echo through the corridors, and heavy waves rumble against the cliffs. All is well, in Freydís’ land.
7. what’s a name that you loved at first sight?
Wolf - first time I saw it was 4 years ago and it still warms my heart

Sappho - if I had a partner who also loves Sappho, I would actually name my daughter this

I think something that’s very important to me when I choose a name is the feeling I get. I feel that my entire list gives me a happy and comfortable vibe! I guess that’s probably because I tend to love nature names and old names!

1.) I definitely want an honor name in there somewhere, whether the first name be a variation or similar to the name being honored or using that name as a middle name. I also want the whole name to flow well together (first, middle and last name).
