Little bro or sis for Fiona Rose! [see bottom of p. 2!]

Hello -

I’ve been lurking around the site for a few weeks (since I found out I was pregnant!), and I’ve finally compiled a long enough list of baby names to seek out opinions! DH wants to be really involved in the naming process, but he hates looking through baby name books/websites, so he will look at a more refined list later on.

We have a four-year-old daughter named [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] (last name) who is super excited for her little sib, so hopefully we can find a name she also loves (her top picks are [name]Bubba[/name] and Pj as of now).

We would love any and all opinions! (suggestions would also be welcome)

The Boys: (middle name will probably be [name]Angus[/name])

[name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name])
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name]
[name]Reid[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name]
[name]Quillan[/name] (could this be pronounced “[name]Quill[/name]-an” with the nn [name]Quill[/name]?)
[name]Ramsay[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name] (Dono)
[name]Rory[/name]
[name]Ewan[/name] / [name]Euan[/name]
[name]James[/name] ([name]Jamie[/name])
[name]Tate[/name]

The Girls: (middle will be [name]Suzannah[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgiana[/name] or maybe Evebella)

[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Eve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name])
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] (love as a nickname, but want a more complete name)
[name]Lacey[/name]
[name]Lane[/name] (nn [name]Laney[/name])

Thanks,
[name]Roma[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Roma[/name],

For a boy, I like [name]Maxwell[/name] on your list.

For a girl, [name]Eve[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] is simply awesome!

I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Eve[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]!!!

The flow is not quite perfect for [name]Eve[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] and [name]Eve[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name], but still SUPER pretty options!

[quote=“roma”]Hello -

[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - very pretty!

The Boys: (middle name will probably be [name]Angus[/name]) - [name]Angus[/name] is handsome.

[name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name]) - like
[name]Liam[/name] - like
[name]Jasper[/name] - love
[name]Rhys[/name] - like
[name]Reid[/name] - love
[name]Lachlan[/name] - like
[name]Quillan[/name] (could this be pronounced “[name]Quill[/name]-an” with the nn [name]Quill[/name]?)
[name]Ramsay[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name] (Dono) - like
[name]Rory[/name] - for me, this seems like a girl’s name.
[name]Ewan[/name] / [name]Euan[/name]
[name]James[/name] ([name]Jamie[/name]) - love, but nn [name]Jamie[/name] seems like a girl’s name.
[name]Tate[/name]

The Girls: (middle will be [name]Suzannah[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgiana[/name] or maybe Evebella) - [name]Love[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] spelled with two “s’s”. [name]Love[/name] [name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgiana[/name] so much, too. I haven’t heard of Evebella before. I need to ponder this unfamiliar name.

[name]Sylvie[/name] - love
[name]Eve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name])
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] - like a lot
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] - love SO much
[name]Poppy[/name] (love as a nickname, but want a more complete name) - I think [name]Poppy[/name] could be a nn for [name]Penelope[/name].
[name]Lacey[/name]
[name]Lane[/name] (nn [name]Laney[/name]) - I love [name]Elaine[/name] nn [name]Laney[/name].

Thanks,
[name]Roma[/name]
You are welcome, [name]Roma[/name]!

The Boys: My favorites:
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Angus[/name]
[name]Reid[/name] [name]Angus[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Angus[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name] [name]Angus[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name] [name]James[/name]–I am suggesting this, so your daughter could call him PJ–so cute!

The Girls: My favorites:
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Eve[/name]* (just a suggestion from your mn’s)

[name]Hi[/name]! I love [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] by the way! It is so lovely.

The Boys:

[name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name]) - Cute, but a little boring, also I don’t like that it has the same L ending as [name]Carmichael[/name].
[name]Liam[/name] - Again, cute, but boring.
[name]Jasper[/name] - [name]Jasper[/name] isn’t a favourite of mine but I can see it’s offbeat appeal, and I can definitely see it with [name]Fiona[/name].
[name]Rhys[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] sounds awesome!
[name]Reid[/name] - Too plain.
[name]Lachlan[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! But I don’t like the laCH with the CAR for some reason, sounds strange…
[name]Quillan[/name] (could this be pronounced “[name]Quill[/name]-an” with the nn [name]Quill[/name]?) - This seems really strange to me…
[name]Ramsay[/name] - Not liking this, not on its own, with [name]Carmichael[/name] or with [name]Fiona[/name], definitely better picks on your list!
[name]Donovan[/name] (Dono) - Okay.
[name]Rory[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! I think [name]Rory[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] sounds amazing!
[name]Ewan[/name] / [name]Euan[/name] - Cute!
[name]James[/name] ([name]Jamie[/name]) - Such a classic, it’s hard to go wrong with [name]James[/name]!
[name]Tate[/name] - No.

My favourites:
[name]Rhys[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] (Or another middle, I don’t like [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Angus[/name] though - too much Ssss sounds)
[name]Rory[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] (I really, really love this one. I’m Scottish so this name makes me super excited! Haha…)

The Girls: (middle will be [name]Suzannah[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgiana[/name] or maybe Evebella)

[name]Sylvie[/name] - Okay.
[name]Eve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name]) - [name]Eve[/name] is cute, and I love [name]Evie[/name]!
[name]Piper[/name] - Okay
[name]Harper[/name] - Okay
[name]Hadley[/name] - I really don’t like this, and it doesn’t go with [name]Fiona[/name] at all. I think you need something that is strong, streamlined and feminine without being frilly (like [name]Fiona[/name]) and [name]Hadley[/name] is way too masculine.
[name]Lucy[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Poppy[/name] (love as a nickname, but want a more complete name) - I think [name]Poppy[/name] is adorable but I would also like it as a nickname. My favourite would be [name]Penelope[/name].
[name]Lacey[/name] - This seems a little tacky to me (sorry!)
[name]Lane[/name] (nn [name]Laney[/name]) - Too short.

My favourites:
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] Geogiana [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Eve[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]

Are you pronouncing [name]Georgiana[/name] like Gor-gi-an-ah or Gor-jay-nah?

[name]Hi[/name], [name]Roma[/name]!

I absolutely love [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name]! So feminine and beautiful and perfect! Nice work, ma’am!

For a boy, I like a two-syllable name with [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]. So, I’d go with [name]Liam[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]. [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name] are both light and airy and lovely. My second choice would be [name]Jasper[/name], as I like it with [name]Fiona[/name], but I’m not too thrilled with it as a name anyway…

Suggestions - BOY -

[name]Brody[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Callum[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Tyree[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]

For a girl, what about using [name]Eve[/name] as a middle name and another three-syllable first name, like [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name]? Otherwise, I would use [name]Georgia[/name] as the middle name and a two-syllable first name. So, my favorite would be [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name], of those you have listed, although [name]Poppy[/name] is so sweet with [name]Fiona[/name]!

Suggestions - GIRL -

[name]Catriona[/name] [name]Eve[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Paisley[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]

Good luck!

[name]Lemon[/name]

One of my favorite names is [name]Fiona[/name]!
My top two favorites from your list are

[name]Ramsay[/name] and [name]Lane[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Roma[/name]!
Congratulations on your second little one!
Wow, [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is just dripping with beauty! Weird description I know, but what I mean is I love it!

(It make me giggle when I saw that [name]Fiona[/name] wants to name her little brother or sister [name]Bubba[/name] or PJ! A friend of mine has a 4-year-old daughter who is convinced they are naming her little sister Sparkles. Hopefully [name]Fiona[/name] will be pleased with your eventual name choice!)

I love your boys list! Awesome! And [name]Angus[/name] (meaning “one strength” according to behindthename.com) is great in the middle spot! Here are my favorites for their sound with [name]Fiona[/name] and with your last name:

[name]Liam[/name] – from [name]William[/name], “Resolute protection” – Fits so beautifully with [name]Fiona[/name]! Is becoming rather popular though, in case that’s an issue for you. [name]Liam[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name].

[name]Jasper[/name] – “treasurer,” a gem – I like how this pairs with [name]Fiona[/name] despite the fact that it’s very English. If you are hoping to shy away from an Irish/Scottish theme with your future children (if you plan on having more), I’d say this would be a great choice. [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]. (If you so desired you could use his initials and call him [name]Jack[/name]!)

[name]Lachlan[/name] – “From the fjord-land (aka Norway)” – Oh I love this name! Also a great fit with [name]Fiona[/name], but much less popular than the rising [name]Liam[/name]. [name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name].

[name]Quillan[/name] – “Cub”-- or apparently a place name of a French town in the Pyrenees – I guess I didn’t know any other pronunciation than [name]Quill[/name]-an. I see that Nameberry lists its pn as “kill-an,” which I would avoid. As [name]Quill[/name]-an, though, I like it! [name]Quillan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name].

[name]Donovan[/name] – “Dark” or “[name]Little[/name] dark one” – Darling! Not a huge fan of the nn Dono though. I also love this with [name]Fiona[/name]! [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name].

[name]Ewan[/name] / [name]Euan[/name] – form of [name]John[/name] “God is gracious” – [name]Love[/name] this name. I personally prefer the [name]Ewan[/name] spelling. [name]Ewan[/name]/[name]Euan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name].

[name]James[/name] ([name]Jamie[/name]) – “Supplanter” I love that it’s still jiving on the Irish flair but it’s obviously much more commonplace than your other names. This also gives you a lot of different directions to go with future children.

Your girl’s list overall seemed to have a distinctly different flair-- more vintage or unisex names, than your boys list.
Some of the girl names seemed downright disjointed to me: [name]Piper[/name], [name]Harper[/name], [name]Hadley[/name], [name]Lane[/name] in particular. There’s nothing wrong with the names themselves they just have a much more masculine and modern feel than the old-school and uber-feminine [name]Fiona[/name] (and all the strongly Celtic names on your boys list).

Here are my favorites of your girl names:

The Girls: (I’m just assuming [name]Georgiana[/name] is being pn [name]George[/name]-ee-anna. Of your middle names, [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Georgiana[/name] means “farmer”, [name]Susannah[/name] means “lily” which I love paired with [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name]!, and EveBella means “Beautiful life.”)

[name]Sylvie[/name] – “forest” – I think [name]Sylvia[/name] works better with [name]Fiona[/name]. [name]Sylvie[/name]/[name]Sylvia[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name].

[name]Eve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name]) – “Life” – I think it works but it does seem a little short to me. [name]Eve[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] (I’m loving this most of all because of the combined meaning, “[name]Lily[/name] of life” with [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name] meaning “Fair rose.”)

[name]Lucy[/name] – “[name]Light[/name]” – I also think [name]Lucia[/name] would work better with [name]Fiona[/name]. I prefer the loo-SEE-ah pronunciation. [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name].
Or [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Susannah[/name]/[name]Lucia[/name] [name]Georgia[/name]/ [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name].

If [name]Lucia[/name] was an option, [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] (“[name]Lily[/name] of light”) would get my vote, but as it is, I vote for [name]Eve[/name] [name]Susannah[/name]!

Good luck!

For, boys my favorites of your list are:
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Angus[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]- this is my favorite for the offbeat quality with little [name]Fiona[/name], though I don’t know about how well the middle name [name]Angus[/name] works with [name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Ewan[/name] [name]Angus[/name]
[name]James[/name] ([name]Jamie[/name]) [name]Angus[/name]

The Girls:
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] ([name]Poppy[/name])

All in all, [name]Jasper[/name] or [name]Poppy[/name] would be my top choices.

Hello -

Thank you so much everyone for your comments! And, thank you very much for your lovely thoughts on [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. We absolutely adore her name, but we finally reached it after a long struggle with a stack of baby name books and never-ending alphabetical lists. This is why my husband doesn’t want to go through that again, despite the beautiful name we got out of it.

My thoughts on your thoughts:

  1. We’re going to stick with the spelling ‘[name]Suzannah[/name]’ as it is after my mother, [name]Suzanne[/name]. And, we pronounce [name]Georgiana[/name] with four syllables: [name]George[/name]-ee-ah-na.

  2. I know my boys tastes are more “scottish/celtic” and my girls are sort of all over the place, and I would actually love more scottish suggestions for girls. My husband is scottish, and we would really like to incorporate this into the name. (Like the suggestion of [name]Isla[/name], but…)

  3. I had originally wanted to stay away from girl names that also ended in ‘a’, like [name]Fiona[/name]. (such as [name]Isla[/name] or [name]Lucia[/name]) [name]Both[/name] hubs and I come from large families, and we want a lot of kids (4-6 maybe), and I don’t want to be stuck in that position where I’ve got two girls with the ending ‘a’ and a third would feel completely different. Is this really a problem I should be worried about?

  4. [name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Poppy[/name]: I don’t love [name]Penelope[/name], but like many of you have mentioned, I think [name]Poppy[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name] are adorable! I love [name]Poppy[/name], but don’t think its substantial enough for adult life. Any other [name]Poppy[/name] full names?

  5. dove14 – I love your breakdown of all the meanings! Meaning is actually really important to us, and we’d like something as strong and beautiful as [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name], or “fair rose”. Also, with [name]Jasper[/name] - one of the reasons I really like this name is for the initials combo: [name]JAC[/name]. I’ve always found [name]Jack[/name] very cute, but [name]John[/name] not really my style (another reason why I love [name]Euan[/name]/[name]Ewan[/name]: same meaning as [name]John[/name] but a totally different feel), so [name]Jasper[/name]/[name]Jack[/name] really works for me! I actually really like the [name]Lucia[/name] suggestion (with nickname [name]Lucy[/name]) but, again, see #3 and my issue with ‘a’ endings…

Again, thank you so much! Haha, all your comments made me realize how much I love all of the names on my list!!

quote=“dove14”]
![/quote]

Haha! Hopefully your friend’s daughter isn’t too disappointed when she finds out her sister’s real name  Once we decide on the name, we’re going to let [name]Fiona[/name] choose her own special nickname for her new baby brother or sister (whether its still [name]Bubba[/name] and Pj, who knows!). I hope this helps curb her disappointment when she’s not introduced to [name]Bubba[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] at the hospital.

Thanks,
[name]Roma[/name]

I feel your pain, [name]Roma[/name]! It took us forever to find our son’s name, and even longer to find a name for his future brother! Naming can be a surprisingly draining emotional process!

Here are my thoughts on some of your thoughts… on our thoughts…!

Sorry I misspelled [name]Suzannah[/name]-- that was actually accidental! I think it’s beautiful that it’s honoring your mother! That makes me love it even more!

More Scottish girl names:

I do love [name]Isla[/name]!

(Since meanings are important to you, I’ll include them!)

[name]Aileen[/name]/[name]Eileen[/name] --“[name]Bright[/name], shining”
[name]Ainsley[/name] – “[name]Meadow[/name]”
[name]Caitriona[/name]/[name]Catrina[/name] (I believe [name]Jill[/name] suggested this and I think it works well!) – “Pure”
Donella – “Ruler of the world”
[name]Ealasaid[/name] (form of [name]Elizabeth[/name]) – “Consecrated to God”
[name]Eilidh[/name]/Eilie/Aylie – “[name]Light[/name]”
[name]Eleanor[/name] --“[name]Light[/name]”
[name]Elspet[/name]/[name]Elspeth[/name] – “Consecrated to God”
[name]Glenna[/name] – “[name]Valley[/name]”
[name]Ione[/name]/ [name]Iona[/name] – “[name]Violet[/name],” “Island”
Keavy or Keava (Anglicized of [name]Caoimhe[/name]) – “Beautiful”
[name]Kenna[/name] --“Handsome” (From [name]Kenneth[/name])
[name]Kirstin[/name] – “Follower of [name]Christ[/name]”
[name]Lilias[/name] – “[name]Lily[/name]”
[name]Lorna[/name] – literary name, Scottish place name
[name]Mairi[/name] – form of [name]Mary[/name], “Bitter”
[name]Malina[/name] – behindthename.com lists this as a deriv. of [name]Malcolm[/name], but it is also Greek meaning “High tower.”
[name]Margaret[/name] – “[name]Pearl[/name]”
[name]Maura[/name] or [name]Moira[/name] – “Great”, “Bitter”
[name]Neilina[/name] – “Champion” or “[name]Cloud[/name]”
[name]Rona[/name] --“Might”
[name]Shona[/name] – “God’s gift”
[name]Sorcha[/name] – “Radiant”
[name]Una[/name] – “Lamb,” “One”

When it comes to girl names, considering how many end in -a, I wouldn’t worry too much about having common endings. I doubt anyone would even notice if you ended up having, say, 3 girls and one did not end in -a. Or, if you feel it’s important they match, I’d bet that it’d be pretty easy to find girl names you like that do end in -a. If you go with something like [name]Lucia[/name] and call her [name]Lucy[/name], that would also distinguish between the names. If it’s something that you feel strongly about though, we will definitely help you find a non -a name!

I’m with you on [name]Poppy[/name]! [name]Penelope[/name] is also not my style. I tend to think that any P- name would work to get to [name]Poppy[/name].
Most of these aren’t great matches with your name style in my opinion, but they might help you think of something else!

[name]Padma[/name] – “lotus”
[name]Paloma[/name] – “dove”
[name]Padget[/name] – “page”
[name]Petra[/name] – “rock”
[name]Patricia[/name] – “noble”
[name]Phoebe[/name] – “radiant”
[name]Paula[/name] – “small”
[name]Pauline[/name] --“small”
[name]Pearl[/name] – “pearl”
[name]Portia[/name] – “pig”, unfortunate meaning, but a cool Shakespearean character.
[name]Priscilla[/name] – “ancient”

That’s a great idea!

Hello -

Naming is definitely emotionally exhausting…just out of curious, do you mind sharing your son’s name? Although I don’t know as much about names as it seems many ‘berries’ on here do, I definitely love thinking about names (especially when they’re not for my own children - it takes all the pressure off!)

Thanks for such awesome suggestions! About what you said about all the names ending in ‘a’: I think I’m the most comfortable with 1) using a name with a completely different sound or 2) using an ‘a’ name but calling her predominantly by a name with a different ending (such as [name]Lucia[/name]/[name]Lucy[/name]).

From your list, I feel drawn to [name]Eilidh[/name], but I’m curious: how is it pronounced? I tried looking it up, and some sites said AY-lee while others said EYE-lee. Any ideas? Along this thread of difficult-to-spell names, I also like Lilidh and [name]Caoimhe[/name] (although I agree that something like [name]Keeva[/name] or Keava might be easier to deal with). And [name]Kirsten[/name]. To me, [name]Kirsten[/name] is similar to [name]Fiona[/name] in that its distinctly feminine, but not frilly. Its got this strong quality about it.

Hmm…I feel like [name]Poppy[/name] and [name]Piper[/name] are the only two ‘p’ names I seem to like…what if we went with the simple [name]Paige[/name], and called her the more energetic and lively [name]Poppy[/name], allowing her to have something nice and common to fall back on or use later in life?

Luckily, while I could use some suggestions on the girls side, I feel really great about my boys’ choices, and I love too many of them  Tomorrow, ([name]Sunday[/name] - yay, free time!) I might narrow them down based on meaning and see what you guys think of the “refreshed list”.

Thanks again!
[name]Roma[/name]

[name]Roma[/name]~
My son’s name is [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Scott[/name]. His middle name is after my dad, and his first name is a tree, which continues on the nature-theme of my own flower name!
A little different way to go with a firstborn son-- usually they are named after their fathers around here! And in truth he would have been if DH and I could have agreed on another name! – but it suits him perfectly! (With the help of Nameberry though we were able to find and agree on a name in honor of DH for our next son! This site is awesome!)

[name]Eilidh[/name] is pronounced AY-lee, and I only know that because of the wonderful Nameberry poster limike! I personally love it, although I feel like any Anglicized form makes it look more connected to the [name]Kaylee[/name] trend.

I think [name]Kirsten[/name] is actually a great match with [name]Fiona[/name]! Like you said, it’s distinctly feminine, but not frilly.

I’m personally not a huge fan of [name]Paige[/name], especially as a sister to [name]Fiona[/name]. It just feels a bit shortchanged.

I’m looking forward to seeing your narrowed list!
Have a wonderful day!

[name]Hi[/name]! I love your name, [name]Roma[/name], as well as [name]Fiona[/name] and your last name.

[name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name]): I love [name]Maxwell[/name] with [name]Fiona[/name], but I just realized that [name]Maxwell[/name] and [name]Carmichael[/name] both end in L sounds.

[name]Liam[/name]: I think that [name]Liam[/name] is great with [name]Fiona[/name]!

[name]Jasper[/name]: I love [name]Jasper[/name], too…

[name]Rhys[/name]: I love [name]Rhys[/name] (especially this spelling), but when I say [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name], the s from [name]Rhys[/name] attaches to [name]Carmichael[/name], sounding like the word “scar.” It may just be how I’m saying it, though.

[name]Reid[/name]: I think it’s really handsome, but I think I like some of the others better with [name]Fiona[/name].

[name]Lachlan[/name]: I think it’s a really cool name…

[name]Quillan[/name]: I always assumed [name]Quillan[/name] was pronounced Kwil-in until I saw the kill pronunciation on Nameberry! I was so sad! I don’t see why you couldn’t pronounce it like the word “quill,” and I’m guessing that’s how it will be pronounced anyway. I love the alliteration with your last name!

[name]Ramsay[/name]: I like some of your others more…

[name]Donovan[/name] (Dono): I love [name]Donovan[/name] and think it’s great with [name]Fiona[/name] and your last name, but I’m wondering if the Dono nickname will be mispronounced as “Dough-no,” which sounds a lot like “[name]Don[/name]'t know” to me. You may also like the [name]Van[/name] nickname.

[name]Rory[/name]: I love [name]Rory[/name], but I’m wondering if [name]Rory[/name] will be mistaken for a girl. I also love [name]Rowan[/name].

[name]Ewan[/name] / [name]Euan[/name]: I think it’s a great name!

[name]James[/name] ([name]Jamie[/name]): I love [name]James[/name], but it’s the s ending for me again. (It must just be me, though…)

[name]Tate[/name]: I love this, too…

Some more you may like (and I’m really sorry for repeats):

Names that remind me of [name]Ewan[/name], [name]Rhys[/name], and [name]Tate[/name]:

[name]Alastair[/name]
[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Grady[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Quinlan[/name]
[name]Kellan[/name] (it reminds me of [name]Quillen[/name])
[name]Ronan[/name]
[name]Rafferty[/name]
[name]Roan[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Stewart[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name]

Names that remind me of [name]Reid[/name]:

[name]Abbott[/name] (nn [name]Abe[/name])
[name]Bennett[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Leland[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name]
[name]Truman[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name]
[name]Wilson[/name]

Names that remind me of [name]James[/name]:

[name]Edward[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] (lots of O with [name]Fiona[/name], though)
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]William[/name] (nn [name]Liam[/name])

The Girls: (middle will be [name]Suzannah[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgiana[/name] or maybe Evebella)

[name]Sylvie[/name]: I think [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] sounds great!

[name]Eve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name]): I love this, too…

[name]Piper[/name]: I can better see some of the less modern sounding names with [name]Fiona[/name]…

[name]Harper[/name]: Ditto…

[name]Hadley[/name]: Ditto…

[name]Lucy[/name]: I love [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name]!

[name]Poppy[/name] (love as a nickname, but want a more complete name): I love [name]Penelope[/name], nn [name]Poppy[/name]!

[name]Lacey[/name]: See [name]Hadley[/name]…

[name]Lane[/name] (nn [name]Laney[/name]): Ditto…

I can personally best see the feminine, less modern sounding girls’ names with [name]Fiona[/name], but I think the modern names could make great middles.

Some more you may like with [name]Fiona[/name]:

[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Celia[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name])
[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name])
[name]Helena[/name] (if you pronounce it “heh-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh,” you could call her [name]Lane[/name] or [name]Laney[/name] for short, which was on your list…)
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]

([name]Edit[/name]: I completely missed the part about the middle names, so a lot of the girls’ names I listed don’t work. Sorry about that!)

I love so many names on your list!

Good luck!

Hello -

Sorry, my [name]Sunday[/name] free time never seemed to come, so here I am on [name]Wednesday[/name] with finally a window of time to type up a quick response! So here goes!

[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Scott[/name] is very handsome! And I’m glad that you will be able to use both your father’s name and your husband’s name with your children.

Thanks jill for all the suggestions and comments!

Here’s a narrowed down list that focuses a bit more on meaning (except for a few that I love that don’t have “strong” meanings, and some of the meanings a slightly twisted to sound better):

Boys-

[name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “greatest one strength” (if using greatest as [name]Max[/name]'s definition)
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “protective strength”
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “bringer of treasure / one strength”
[name]Rhys[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “fiery strength”
[name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] - “from the fjord-land / one strength” (i just love this one!)
[name]Ramsey[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “low-lying land / one strength” (just love this one too much too!)
[name]Donovan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “dark strength” (I love the comparison of “dark” to “fair” with [name]Donovan[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name])
[name]Rory[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “strong red king”
[name]Ewan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “gracious strength” (it really means “god’s grace” but we’re not religious, so this is a way of twisting the meaning)
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “strong as a boar”
[name]Quinlan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “fit, strong”

I know, this really isn’t narrowed down that much…you can just list your favorites if you don’t want to comment on some again.

Girls-

[name]Eve[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “lily of life”
[name]Lucia[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “lily of light”
[name]Piper[/name] Evebella [name]Carmichael[/name] - “piper of beautiful life”
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “lily piper”
[name]Eilidh[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “radiant lily”
Lilidh [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “lily farmer” (maybe not the best meaning)
[name]Kirsten[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] - “christian lily” (meaning a little too religious for us maybe)
*[name]EDIT[/name]: also want to add [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Eve[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name], matches [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name]'s flow and means “light of life”

I think my favorites right now (they are still pretty wishy-washy) are [name]Eilidh[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] and [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Angus[/name].

Thanks!
[name]Roma[/name]

[name]Eve[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] & [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Angus[/name] are my favorites!

Good luck!

The Boys: Favourites from your list (top 2 marked with *)
[name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name]) *
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name] *
[name]Reid[/name]
[name]Ramsay[/name]
[name]James[/name] ([name]Jamie[/name])

The Girls: Favourites (top 2 marked with *)
[name]Eve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name]) [name]Suzannah[/name] *
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] *
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name]

I think [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] (for girls) are adorable together.
For boys, [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name] are my favourite.

GOOD [name]LUCK[/name]!

Hello -

My husband and I just sat down and talked about our name list, and we took off any names that either of us felt unsure about. (unfortunately, that didn’t narrow it down too much!) Would love more opinions!

[name]Sister[/name] is [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name].

[name]Max/name [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Angus[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] (I love the comparison of “dark” to “fair” with [name]Donovan[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name])
[name]Rory[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Ewan[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Angus[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]

For the boys, my favorites right now are [name]Donovan[/name] and [name]Rory[/name], but my husband’s are [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Ewan[/name]. I would be happy with any of my boy’s choices though.

[name]Eve[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Eilidh[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name] (pn. AY-lee)
[name]Kirsten[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]
[name]Aubrey[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] [name]Carmichael[/name]

For the girls, we’ve settled on the middle name [name]Suzannah[/name] (as you can see). I am leaning towards the names that end in -ee ([name]Eilidh[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] ([name]Lucia[/name]), and [name]Aubrey[/name]) because my real name is Romalee, but I go by [name]Roma[/name]. Since both [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Roma[/name] end in ‘a’, I thought it might be cute if my second daughter’s name and my full name could both end in ‘ee’.

Thank you!
[name]Roma[/name]

I like the name [name]Jasper[/name] for a boy. If we were having a girl her name would be [name]Hadley[/name] …so of course that’s my favorite on your list.

I like [name]Eilidh[/name] [name]Suzannah[/name] for the girl. The boys list is pretty great so it’s a hard choice. I personally love [name]Rory[/name], [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Euan[/name], so any of those would be my choice
