LOVE the name Max..but YUCK for the the longer versions!

The titles says it all! I love the the name [name]Max[/name] for a boy. I think it’ll sound so cute with big sis [name]Audrey[/name].
"[name]Max[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name]…[name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Max[/name]!!) sorry I think of the kid’s show [name]Max[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name]

But [name]Maxwell[/name]?? [name]Maximilian[/name]? Maybe [name]Maximus[/name]? I’m just not so sure about these.
I thought maybe I could get away with [name]Maddox[/name] and then call him [name]Max[/name] but that idea got poo pooed by everyone I know.
What do you think I should do? Are there any names I’ve missed. Or maybe could you spin one of the above mentioned in a positive light for me?
Thanks!

I’m no help because I agree with you! But I totally think you could do [name]Maddox[/name] and call him [name]Max[/name]. That’s just as close as many other common nicknames, if not closer. ([name]Betsy[/name] for [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Daisy[/name] for [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Vivi[/name] for [name]Genevieve[/name], etc.)

I really think [name]Max[/name] is one of those rare names that stands on its own. I tend to nearly always recommend full names…[name]Leo[/name] is probably the only other boys’ name I say this for, and maybe [name]Greta[/name] for girls. Not much.

[name]Maxfield[/name]? Maxton? [name]Cormac[/name] or [name]Malcolm[/name] nn’d [name]Max[/name]?

[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Xavier[/name]? I think names starting with Ma-, with [name]Xavier[/name] as a middle, seem to be begging for a [name]Max[/name] nn. [name]Matthew[/name] [name]Xavier[/name], or whatever.

I think you can totally do [name]Maddox[/name] nn’d [name]Max[/name] BUT [name]Max[/name] is a classic name, if popular and trending up, and [name]Maddox[/name] feels very of the moment, unlike [name]Audrey[/name]. I mean, it is a surname, it’s been around a while, but…mainly it’s come into use since [name]Angelina[/name] [name]Jolie[/name] used it.

[name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Max[/name] sound more like siblings to me than [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Maddox[/name].

I think [name]Maxwell[/name] and [name]Maximilian[/name] are fine, but I’m not sure how to convince you : D. I think [name]Max[/name] is, in fact, nicer than either of them.

All best!

[name]Maxwell[/name] is my favorite of the long forms. Some people are using Maxon, but I don’t think it sounds that great with [name]Audrey[/name].

Is there a reason he needs a longer name? I agree with others that although I usually prefer longer names, [name]Max[/name] can stand on its own.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Maxim[/name]? I prefer the spelling [name]Maksim[/name], but I don’t know if you’d want a [name]Maks[/name]. I really like the long and short version of it.

I know a cool kid named Maxin but I agree that [name]Max[/name] can stand on it’s own. I also like [name]Mack[/name].

If you just like [name]Max[/name] then I would encourage you to choose it. [name]Max[/name] was No# 98 most popular name in the US last year so the parents of some 3,819 boys agree with your choice. [name]Max[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] are fine together.

I think you should use just [name]Max[/name] as well. There are plenty of little boys named [name]Max[/name] so yours certainly wouldn’t be an oddball. [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Max[/name] are fine together.

Edited for privacy.

I am considering “Maxson” - as an alternative to the yukky long versions.

Maxense, maxandre/maxendre and [name]Maxime[/name] are all good alternatives to maxwell or maximillian

There’s been an addition of a max in my family recently, at first he was to
Be maximus which I love but they settled on maxwell ( my least fav option to be honest). I think max could totally be used on its own though, I also love [name]Maddox[/name] (nn max) so don’t feel too put off that idea. Lots of luck finding the right name

I think that [name]Maddox[/name] called [name]Max[/name] seems like a perfect solution for you. It makes perfect sense, and whoever poo-pooed it probably did so just out of lack of familiarity. They would get used to it.

My personal favorite long form for [name]Max[/name] is Macsen, which is the Welsh form of [name]Maxim[/name]. I like [name]Maxim[/name] quite a lot as well, but it’s unfortunately somewhat tarnished by the fact that it’s a men’s magazine, which makes it slightly less perfect as a baby name.

If you like [name]Maddox[/name], there’s also [name]Mannix[/name], but the people who didn’t like [name]Maddox[/name] probably would like [name]Mannix[/name] even less.

I think [name]Max[/name] is perfect on its own (but I’m completely biased as I have one). Sorry, no help on other long forms but I really do love [name]Max[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] together, both very classic names. Good luck!

If you really feel compelled to choose a long form, [name]Maxwell[/name] is the only one that I really like at all (the others feel either stuffy or contrived to me)- it’s classic and has the same “feel” as [name]Audrey[/name]. But I agree with the others that [name]Max[/name] on its own is perfectly fine, and it does sound great with your daughter’s name

I would think you could get away with any of the full versions for [name]Mack[/name] and call him [name]Max[/name] - [name]Macaulay[/name], [name]Cormac[/name], [name]Malcolm[/name]…

[name]Just[/name] go with [name]Max[/name] if that’s what you want! I have a cousin with this name, and it suits him very fine. It’s a sweet for a boy and masculine for a grown up man  I like [name]Maxwell[/name] and [name]Maximilian[/name] too. Best wishes!

[name]Max[/name] stands on it’s own. Strong name, no need to make things complicated.

I’d say just name him [name]Max[/name]! I also once knew a [name]Matthew[/name] who went by [name]Max[/name]. I also know a [name]Maddox[/name] nn “[name]Max[/name].” I dislike Maxson and Maxon–I prefer just [name]Max[/name]!

If you love [name]Max[/name] on its own, I think you should use it that way. [name]Don[/name]'t settle.
