Luna vs Lily

I’ve been really conflicted as to whether I should use [name_f]Luna[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a girl’s name. Both of these names are quite beautiful and short which I really like. What do you think? Should I choose [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Luna[/name_f]?

i agree that both are very pretty and they both have the same sweet and simple ‘vibe’. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] feels more timeless and classic in my opinion whilst [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is a little more modern sounding/ trendy. So I would say it depends what kind of feel you’re going for. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is slightly more popular but they’re both in the US top 50 so there isn’t much difference there.

Overall, I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is my favourite x

I honestly prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname: [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], etc. etc.

Luna will definitely be dated to this generation, & is a bit overused.

I think both names would work, though! [name_m]Just[/name_m] pointing out the downsides since the ups are obvious.

I prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f] soundwise

It depends a lot on the surname for me - the two have distinctly different prominent vowel sounds and end differently, so I’d want to try saying them both out loud with the surname. I like them both - [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a classic name that I wish hadn’t become so popular, and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is my new niece’s name so I’m biased but I do like it on its own merits as well.

I prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as well because [name_f]Luna[/name_f] can be turned into a negative word so easily. Also, [name_f]Lily[/name_f] seems more classic :two_hearts:

Lily feels overused (I’ve known way too many). [name_f]Luna[/name_f] feels more mature and has a nice sound imo.

Personally, I prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I like the sound and the meaning, and I prefer the style. However, [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is lovely!

Definitely [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! It’s very fresh and sweet-sounding.

I def prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname, but even then, it feels a little overused to me and has too many L’s for such a short name if that makes sense??

This is a tough decision for me, but I’ll go with [name_f]Luna[/name_f], because it feels more vibrant and fresh. :slightly_smiling_face:

I prefer [name_f]Luna[/name_f]; [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is nice but a bit boring IMO.

I like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] better! [name_f]Luna[/name_f] just reminds me of “looney”

Okay fun fact I am big [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] [name_f]Fan[/name_f] and [name_u]Harry[/name_u]’s daughter is named [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. You could use both names like that if you can’t decided. But I love the name [name_f]Lily[/name_f] since it is my favorite flower

[name_f]Lily[/name_f]! [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is getting very popular, so I would recommend against it. I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]!

I prefer the celestial [name_f]Luna[/name_f]

Luna!

Lily is graceful, cute, and elegant.
