"Made Up" names that you actually love

Okay so I know “made up” names usually get a lot of hate but as an avid reader I’ve actually encountered quite a few that fall into the “made up” category that are quite lovely. I know there are some that are just horrid but seeing as how we have a ton of threads dedicated to how awful they are, I was wondering if anyone actually had any “made up” names that they really like?

“Made up” in this case is any name that doesn’t have old origins or that has virtually no information to it online, leading us to believe it was probably made up by someone in a recent time period. So please, go forth and share with me your favorite made up names!

So far a few of my favorite made up names are…

Ladies
Estellise (ehs-[name_m]TAH[/name_m]-lees) - No brainer here, it’s been one of my top names since joining NB!

Gents
Asbel (AZ-bell) - I’m assuming this is made up, I can’t find any information on it

I have Lothira (Lo-thear-uh) and Elendra on my favourites’ list, which are Tolkien inspired; I especially love Lothira out of the two. And (at least think) I made up Xinnaea (or Xinnaeus for a boy), Endrana, Monacia, and Phlamora/Flamora which don’t sound (or look) too bad.

I love Tolkien names and Tolkien inspired names. I actually search the internet for names similar and inspired from his names (I think most of his are a little too much for a human child). I like Flamora!

I really like [name_f]Kimora[/name_f], as in the model [name_f]Kimora[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] Simmons. I believe it’s an invented name.

I heard about a woman name [name_f]Ave[/name_f] (pronounced [name_m]AH[/name_m]-vay) and she was named after the virgin [name_f]Mary[/name_f]/the song “[name_f]Ave[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f].” it has such a pretty sound to it!

Oh I like [name_f]Kimora[/name_f]!

That is a lovely name with a cute origin story. I think it fits in well with some of the popular short girl names ([name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and the others).

Here is an interesting article on “made up” names. I love finding seemingly normal names that are in fact “made up”. I think [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] is my favorite from the list.

There are a lot I love (Tolkien/inspired included). My most favourite would be either Eilena or Elinoe. I made both names up myself (they are inspired by [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]/Elinoi/[name_f]Helen[/name_f] related names).

Eilena - prn. eye-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-nah and it means [name_m]Light[/name_m] of [name_f]Hope[/name_f] or [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_m]Light[/name_m]
Elinoe - prn. elle-in-oh and it means Warrior of [name_m]Light[/name_m] or [name_m]Light[/name_m] Warrior

Some others I like include [name_f]Taran[/name_f], Tauriel, Ennalise, and [name_m]Anakin[/name_m].

not sure if these are made up but all are names I can’t find too buch info on the history

[name_f]Daelyn[/name_f] - I read this in a book once and i fell in love! the nn [name_f]Dae[/name_f]/[name_u]Day[/name_u] is so beautiful as well

[name_f]Caprina[/name_f]-love with the nn [name_f]Capri[/name_f], although i love [name_f]Capri[/name_f] on its own too

Iridessa - yes this is a fairy from the tinkerbell movies but I’m a sucker for -essa names and this just sounds so beautiful

Evra- Really pretty

Cyron- I love the nn [name_m]Cy[/name_m] and this is so handsome

[name_m]Destin[/name_m]- this has a nb entry so i don’t know if it has history but I made this up as a kid and loved it

Tauriel and [name_m]Anakin[/name_m] are some I love too! [name_m]Anakin[/name_m] was a favorite growing up actually. I really like Eilena and the names both have great meanings.

Lorien
Stelmaria (Stell-MAHR-ee-ah) - from the [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Compass
Theoden/Theodred
Mordred (I tend to like names that end in -dred for some bizarre reason)
Elsinore
[name_f]Yvaine[/name_f] (is this made up or legit? I can never tell)
Jennaviva ([name_f]Genoveva[/name_f] is a legit name, but this spelling is not)
Annavieve from the NB contest
Estellise is really beautiful too!

I always forget Lorien isn’t a real name! I really really love it every time I see it. Stelmaria is gorgeous as well. Hmm, I’m not sure if [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f] is legit or not. I think there’s a similar name because that looks so familiar…
I’m so glad you like Estellise! It feels like my baby even though I didn’t create the name. I was bewildered when I heard it but after a few days it just wouldn’t get out of my head. Over a year later and it’s still going strong!

I agree that [name_f]Ave[/name_f]/Avé is really great! I also love Evolet (it’s like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] meets [name_f]Violet[/name_f]! [name_m]How[/name_m] could you not love that?! :)), Anneline/Annaline, [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (rumored to be invented by [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]), [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] (rumored to be created by [name_u]James[/name_u] Fenimore [name_m]Cooper[/name_m]? I think?), and [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] (Cervantes?). I also really like Améliore, which is the present third-person form of the [name_m]French[/name_m] verb améliorer, which means “to improve”. I don’t think its meaning is the greatest, but I think it’s such a pretty word, and could make a lovely name, a la Amélie and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]. I wouldn’t promote it, but I still secretly like the idea of a little Améliore out there!

Renly!

Totally a fan of made up names! [name_f]Maeby[/name_f] and Saela, of course. Also love Islet (word, but not a name) and our boy pick for our last baby was Zefram.

I love Audruxius for a boy!!!

Saela looks beautiful! how do you pronounce it? And ahh i’ve never seen your signiture before but you have [name_m]Jedi[/name_m] and [name_f]Busy[/name_f] on it which are two names i adooore and i thought i was the only one! Your name style is beautiful!

I’m a big fan of [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]. Setting aside the fact that it’s so modern, it really has a pretty sound (I say Ne-vay-uh.) It certainly doesn’t fit into my own style, but hopefully in my lifetime it will be seen as more than tacky and trendy.
I also love Iridessa. It sounds, well, iridescent! On that note, Iridessen could be a cool male version.

I really like the name Allikota. I came up with it when I was younger and it’s kinda sat with me ever since.
