"Made Up" names that you actually love

Funny that you mentioned [name_u]Elia[/name_u]; it’s one of my SO’s all time favourites. I’ve gradually warmed up to [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] and now I really like it, though I doubt it would ever be used (we have quite strict naming laws where I live). You have lots of nice names in your signature – I’m especially swooning over the boys’ names. [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is high on our list as a middle name, and I’d love to use it as a first if I didn’t worry too much about mispronunciation. [name_u]River[/name_u], Chetan (no idea how this is pronounced, but it looks great!), [name_m]Valor[/name_m], [name_u]Sequoia[/name_u], and [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m] are great, too!

Isn’t [name_f]Cora[/name_f] just a nickname for [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]? I mean… it has been a nickname for [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] since time immemorial here, that and [name_u]Corry[/name_u]/[name_m]Cor[/name_m]/[name_f]Nel[/name_f]/[name_f]Lia[/name_f], at least the name [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is seen as terribly outdated here.

I like:
Marilot
Marlieke
Phileine
Minou
Méloé (it’s said to be either a feminization of [name_m]Melor[/name_m] or a smoosh of Chloé and Mélanie)
[name_m]Silo[/name_m]é

I have a huge soft spot for [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] and [name_f]Bloodrayne[/name_f].

Thank you!! It’s sometimes spelled Chaytan, which reflects the pronunciation. First part rhymes with [name_u]Ray[/name_u].

I have a soft spot for Meridan. I came up with it the other day, not sure if it’s a real name or not?

I would love to use [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] if it wasn’t so commonly known. Like…if I read GoT and there was no popular TV Show so most people would just think it was weird, I would absolutely use it. A girl I went to HS with actually used the name and said she never gets anyone being rude about it, they just ask the spelling.

I feel like anything connected with Tolkien, fake or not, is always so elegant! I regularly search the internet for Tolkien inspired names which made me fall of [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] (although I pronounce it [name_f]EL[/name_f]-oh-win). I really like Izalie and feel like it would work well with the “[name_u]Isa[/name_u]” names like [name_m]Isadore[/name_m], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], etc. [name_f]Amerie[/name_f] is cute too! I think [name_f]Meri[/name_f] as a nickname would be sweet

Estellise and Asbel, like from the Tales games? I like those names, too <3
Well, Evangeline is technically made up, right? How much time should pass before something is a ‘legit’ name? Although I’ve always liked Avangeline more. Also, even though it is a real word, Cove has recently been being used as a name and I love it. Christabel is a real name, a fusion of two different ones, and a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, I think. Um, maybe I’m having a hard time with the concept of ‘made up’ names ^^; There are endless possibilities!

I love Tetley, [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]

Hehe, yes! The Tales games are some of my favorite ones and Estellise is actually DH approved and one we will use if we have a girl  I don’t think there’s a certain timeline of how long a name should be in use before it’s legit. It kind of feels to me like it needs to be around long enough to have some type of history or recorded use or be a little more widely known, if that makes sense. I have no objection to “made up” names so as long as it is pleasing to my ear I’ll use it

I recently saw Cove as well and adore it! Evangeline has never been one I like, mostly because I always think of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Not the same, I know, but it always sticks with me x-x I like the “Ava” nickname potential for Avangeline :3

These are some of my favourites:

Bexley
Emerly
Everdeen
Irmeli
Irmeline
Leerie
Lockette
Macklyn
Madicken
Makeya
Manderley
Myrran
Raewyn
Reyah ([name_u]RAY[/name_u]-ah)
Rechelle
Vidia
Villemine (Vill-E-mean)

Dastan
Mandus ([name_m]Man[/name_m]-dus)
Nelion (NEE-leon)
Rhee
Sakeus (Sa-[name_u]KAY[/name_u]-us)
Semias (Se-mi-as)
Tian (TEE-an)
Tintin (unisex)
Zacaiah/Sakaiah (Za-[name_u]KAI[/name_u]-ah)

I love [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], which I believe Tolkien invested, [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] was made up by [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] and [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] came about when [name_u]Neal[/name_u] Gaimen accidentally misspelled [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

And how could I forget [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] which was created by a Scottish poet

Madicken???

Lucibelle. That before my nameberry days, but I still kinda like it.

I only know Tuana and Esila. Tuana probably comes from Turkish mythological goddess [name_f]Tu[/name_f] [name_f]Ana[/name_f], later smashed together. I heard Esila on one person before.

Bevorlia ([name_f]Bev[/name_f]-er-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-ah) and Luminia (Loo-[name_u]MIN[/name_u]-ee-ah). I wish making up names didn’t seem so trashy or make you seem like you’re desperate to stand out to people. People made up names at some point or we wouldn’t have them, so why is it percieved as dumb now? I don’t get it!

I quite like Angeliese. It’s like [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] but the -leez instead of -lina.

I have a huge soft spot for [name_f]Aviana[/name_f]/[name_f]Avianna[/name_f]! I also adore [name_f]Mireia[/name_f]/[name_f]Mireya[/name_f] but both spellings wouldn’t be very intuitive in my country so I’ve considered spelling it Mirea, which is technically made-up, but it would just be so much easier… same for [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f], I prefer to spell it Faedra or even Fedra just to steer clear from spelling confusion where I live.

I like [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Maeby[/name_f], Vanellope, Oliveretta, [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], and I adore [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. I like [name_m]Azrael[/name_m] from The Smurfs too, I assume it was made up? I’m not sure. My friend’s little sister’s name is [name_f]Ann[/name_f]@le@h, which I like, and I can’t find it anywhere on here, just [name_f]Annaleigh[/name_f]. They made it up by smooshing together their middle names - [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. [name_f]Leah[/name_f]'s twin’s name is made up as well, smooshing together the parent’s first names.
When I was little I made up “Terena” (tren-uh). My mumma asked me what I wanted to name my new stuffed bear and that just came out of my mouth.
Some names I came across on this thread that caught my eye are - Asbel, [name_f]Ave[/name_f], Elinoe, Stelmaria, Evolet, Ameliore, and Luminia. Someone also mentioned Villemine, but if you’re [name_m]German[/name_m] it’s just a different spelling of [name_f]Wilhelmine[/name_f].
