[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I love the name [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and I would use it for my little girl, I really like the sound and the meaning, but is it too 90’s? I know many Megans born in the 90’s and I don’t know if it will be suitable for a little girl. Opinions?
I don’t think it’s too dated! It certainly peaked a while ago but I think it would be sweet to meet a little [name_f]Megan[/name_f]!
I do think [name_f]Megan[/name_f] was most popular in the late '80s-early 2000s, and I associate it with that general time period. That being said, it definitely still seems usable to me and would be really sweet on a baby! I also adore the similar [name_f]Meg[/name_f], so I’ll throw that in as a suggestion. I think you should go with what you love though!
I do think it’s dated, but that doesn’t make it unusable! There isn’t a rule like you can’t use dated names on kids
Even though it peaked in the 90’s, that probably means not as many kids today have the name. Right now the 90’s are more retro where it can work.
Like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], [name_f]Megan[/name_f] is still a pretty normal classic name. [name_f]Meg[/name_f] was a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] before [name_f]Megan[/name_f] was trendy which helps it sound more classic than trendy.
I think my issue with it is that I’m still tired of it. It’s dated to the early 00s, which isn’t that long ago, so it still feels overused to me, even though it ranks in the 600s now. I was born in 1999 and it was one of the most popular names when I was younger. So I’m bored with it but I’m not sure if it’s because it sounds dated or if I’m not yet convinced that it isn’t overused, if that makes sense.
I think it would be a sweet name. To me it isn’t dated, but that could be because I’ve know many born across the decades.
I grew up with so many Megans ([name_f]Meghan[/name_f], Meganne, et al) that it feels like a pretty dated and tired name to me. However, [name_f]Meg[/name_f] feels so fresh! What about [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]/Margot nn [name_f]Meg[/name_f]?
I grew up with a bunch of Megans (born late 80s) and I still think its a nice name though Im guessing its a “mom name” now. Still sounds young to me and I can totally see it on a little girl. Its just not as popular right now but I don’t find it very dated.
Megan is gorgeous!
i think megan is lovely, especially with the nn meg. not dated at all imo
It’s fine. I have a 28 year old first cousin named [name_f]Meg[/name_f](h)an but I also have a 5-7 year old second cousin named [name_f]Megan[/name_f].
Nobody raised any brows when we heard her name
I think it’s pretty. Not too dated IMO. [name_f]Meg[/name_f] is a classic nickname.
This is totally my personal experience and may differ depending on where you live. I think the name itself is cute and spunky! But… I know probably around 9 Megans just within my circle of mom friends. And went to high school with even more than that. Like a previous poster said, its so popular it gets confusing sometimes to explain to my husband which [name_f]Megan[/name_f] I’m talking about. I understand loving a popular name and using a current top name, despite its popularity… But the thing about using a popular name from the 80s/90s is its going to be a “mom name”. Because those are the women having children now. A little [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] might have 2 others in her class, but a little [name_f]Megan[/name_f] might have the same name as her best friend’s mom. To me its the equivalent of having the name [name_f]Susan[/name_f] or [name_f]Karen[/name_f] back in the 90s, when those were everyone’s mom’s name. Its that 100 year rule I guess. It feels fresh to use your great grandmother’s name again, but names used after that still feel dated. For instance, Mabel or Maeve feel less dated to me even though they are “older names”.
Aww! [name_f]Megan[/name_f] is my name! I love seeing it being appreciated! I was born in the early 2000s, so it doesn’t feel particularly tied to the 90s. I think it would definitely work for a little girl today, especially with the nickname [name_f]Meg[/name_f] or [name_f]May[/name_f] (which is my nickname!)
Also, where I am I’ve only met 2-3 other Megans, so I don’t have an issue with the popularity!
It’s totally suitable for a little girl! In fact, I think it would be lovely to meet a young [name_f]Megan[/name_f]. I’m very outspoken about the fact that whether a name is perceived as “dated” or not is irrelevant. Names come in and out of fashion like clothes, and what’s considered dated right now might be tomorrow’s biggest trend. At the end of the day, it’s about choosing the name that resonates the most with you, the name you can most picture on your little girl. [name_f]Megan[/name_f] is beautiful.
There’s a 6th grader in my school named [name_f]Megan[/name_f].
It feels a tad dated to me, but I totally see the appeal of it for others!
(Side note: my cousin [name_f]Meagan[/name_f] is occasionally called [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and I’ve always thought that was sweet)
It’s dated, but I wouldn’t let that discourage you. However, if I heard of a baby named [name_f]Megan[/name_f] recently, I might wonder if all of the [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] Markle news sparked the love for the name
no not at all!!
[name_f]Megan[/name_f] is an absolutely lovely name (and the name of one of my best friends)!!
I would be thrilled to meet a wee [name_f]Megan[/name_f]!
