Monty - Dog or Baby?

Hey :wave:t3:

I absolutely love the name [name_m]Monty[/name_m] for baby #2 but my husband says it sounds like a dog. What are your thoughts please? Is there any love for the name…

[name_f]My[/name_f] grandparents had a dog called [name_m]Monty[/name_m], and I’ve never met a human [name_m]Monty[/name_m], so I have to say dog I’m afraid. If it was short for something like [name_m]Montague[/name_m], I would probably say human though.

I taught a [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] a few years back who went by [name_m]Monty[/name_m] so that’s helped my image of it.

I think [name_m]Monty[/name_m] works fine on a baby! Like [name_u]Milo[/name_u] or [name_u]Max[/name_u], Monty’s a name common for dogs but still perfectly usable on a child imo.

It could be both in my opinion,I love it as a nickname for [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u]

I think Monty is like Max. There are certainly plenty of dogs named Max, but that doesn’t make it just a dog name.
I think once people meet a human Monty they’d get over the dog association, even if they had one. I personally think of it as a human name first, because I know of a little boy called Monty.

To me [name_m]Monty[/name_m] is a dog name. [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] nn [name_m]Monty[/name_m] is a human name though

Solidly a human name!

This is my mom’s dog’s name so I have a really hard time seeing it as a human name :grimacing: [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] called [name_m]Monty[/name_m] helps a bit though

I adore the name [name_m]Monty[/name_m] (and Monte). Have you ever watched the famous British gardener, [name_m]Monty[/name_m] Don’s Gardener’s World? He is amazing and it is definitely a human name. Of course, I think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are human names too.

Want to add that dogs are the most incredible beings so I would not mind sharing a name with a dog, provided it weren’t Biscuit or Spot.

I wouldn’t think that [name_m]Monty[/name_m] was a dog if I heard it. I’ve only ever heard [name_m]Monty[/name_m] used as a nn for a person. Usually as short for [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u].

I love [name_m]Monty[/name_m]! I knew a little [name_m]Monty[/name_m] and it suited him perfectly

Haha amen to that!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the [name_m]Monte[/name_m] spelling as well actually

[name_m]Ive[/name_m] never heard of a dog or a person named [name_m]Monty[/name_m]. Seems more human if Im honest but also very surname.

I like the name [name_m]Monty[/name_m]! What if you used [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] and then had [name_m]Monty[/name_m] as a nickname? It doesn’t feel too much like a dog name to me, but that might help give it some more options.

I really like the name [name_m]Monty[/name_m] and know a little boy with the name (except it’s spelled Monte). It seems I like names that others associate with pets, though - I love [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u] etc! I think if you love it it just doesn’t matter.
