I love the name [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] and have since I read it in a novel years ago. Obviously I love it so much that I even made it part of my username here! I would use it as a middle name for a future baby in a heartbeat if I could get my husband on board, which may not be possible. The main issue is pronunciation: I’ve never heard it said aloud until recently because I read it in a book. I’ve been saying it Mor-gah-na. Like [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] with an ah on the end, I guess. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband insists (based on where he heard it from) it’s pronounced Mor-gaw-na. It’s the [name_f]Anna[/name_f]/Ana debate again. And normally I would say [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is [name_f]Ann[/name_f]-ah and [name_f]Ana[/name_f] is Awn-ah. So now I’m confused that maybe I’ve actually been saying it wrong all this time! Thoughts? [name_m]How[/name_m] do YOU say it?
Morganna is Morg-ann-uh. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] in my book is Morg-awn-uh… sorry to side with him. That’s definitely how I say your username in my head…
I’d say it like [name_f]Anna[/name_f], because I know 2 girls with the name and that’s how they pronounce it. Wouldn’t even occur to me to say it differently.
I’m not sure my opinion helps as my first language is not [name_f]English[/name_f] but here you go. I do pronounce [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Ana[/name_f] slightly different. I guess [name_f]Anna[/name_f] rhymes with [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and then [name_f]Ana[/name_f] I say it like ah-nah.
Yeah I think the pronunciation is probably down to where you are from/ would be raising a child. I’m from Mid-Atlantic USA and I’d definitely pronounce it [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]-ah. Maybe if you’re a [name_u]Brit[/name_u], or from Northern US, [name_f]Canada[/name_f] you might pronounce it the other way. Also think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] rhymes with [name_f]Hannah[/name_f].
I’m not [name_f]English[/name_f] born, but I don’t see any difference…
I understand it may be the accent, but if you’re pronouncing vowels right, I don’t think length of one syllable matters that much…
I would settle this and tell my partner to pronounce name as he feels like, and I would just do another accent I’m more comfortable with
