@kateyb1012 -Ahahaha! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] I could be of entertainment.
@tfzolghadr & @mega_muffin - Ok I’ll just reply to both of you together, both of you had some nice observations on the sibling set, and comments, and suggestions, and there was a lot of information so I just had to go think about it for a little.
I liked [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] at first, but the more I see Ottostuffafterit I just think “Ottoman Empire,” and I don’t really love [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], so I think this one is probably going to fall off. You want to know what’s revollting? [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is an adorable nickname for… [name_f]Lolita[/name_f]. Which is also adorable. And entirely, entirely unusable. Waah!
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is now off because it’s too confusing for a #7 and too sad to explain the technicality of the loss years ago that actually makes it #8. We’re just going to go with the number of living children, and I did try to find some seven-meaning names, but it’s pretty slim pickings ([name_f]Septima[/name_f] would be cool if not for starting out like sepsis!), so I have to agree with @mega_muffin’s previous comment about going with the “lucky 7” thought. I want to like [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], but it just can’t stand up to [name_f]Octavia[/name_f].
[name_u]Skye[/name_u] is also leaving because it sounds too much like [name_u]Kai[/name_u], which is pretty popular for boys in my region. It did occur to me that I HAD two options on my original list - [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f] — that would have worked as long form options for it. Ha! Oh, well. Scholastica is really fun, I like that, but it would be way too close to the publishing company for a real person to wear.
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] is on the list now of considerations now and objectively, it seems like a good blend/bridging of styles we have going on already with the other kids’ names. I added [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] for Hubby to look at. Also [name_f]Adara[/name_f]. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] gets a boost because those really are some great nn options, I like that. [name_f]Della[/name_f] has been a pet favorite for awhile, though yeah, it’s less ideal with Da!sy. I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] as well, though maybe it would be confusing [name_m]IRL[/name_m] next to Georg1a
(BTW random thought alert: I did reconsider [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] decided it’s no less confusing than [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f], which I like better, and is easier for me to remember how to spell. Seriously, it’s bad enough remembering all the birthdates at the doctor’s without struggling with spelling). I like [name_f]Soraya[/name_f] but it sounds so similar to Dulc!nea that I took it back off. [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], and [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] were on my serious list for a long time but I’ve moved on from them now.
Maybe, it might grow on me to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and [name_f]Odette[/name_f]. They will get some more simmering.
Chrysanthe is nice (as are the other Greek names) but it’s for sure going to be too close to chrysanthemum — a word you can’t say while you’re chewing your gum — and the siblings would endlessly be singing (The Impossible Chrysanthemum Song (feat. Trev Tevis) - YouTube). [name_f]Anthe[/name_f] and [name_f]Anthea[/name_f], also have considered those, they are nice, not as nice as [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] though. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is one my husband likes, but I only hear “daffy.” A good deal of the appeal of [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] is that it’s a [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] & [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] name, we like it for that reason; and actually it’s a plus that this one doesn’t have a big legend attached, the [name_f]Io[/name_f] part notwithstanding. We both do happen to like a lot of Greek names in general, though.
I like almost all the [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]-inspired names, especially Asenath (and cool meaning too!), but I don’t think that’s any less-out there than my starting point, but I might tuck it away for combos. All the [name_u]Gwyn[/name_u]-names were high on my list for ages and ages, but I finally got tired of them and booted the lot. This did inspire me to go look up ends-in-TH names, and I was surprised to realize how many there are that I like.
[name_m]General[/name_m] Comments:
Along with some of the other [name_u]Berry[/name_u] suggestions that made it for my husband to look at, I looked up a heap of I-starting Greek names and pesented presented [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f], Ianthia/Ianthea. To which he commented, “Might as well use the whole [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] as these.”
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] (I really love this one): “looks like ‘I sold.’”
Colanthe: “sounds like calamity.”
Yet my reservation on [name_f]Violet[/name_f]/violent eludes him. He says he just doesn’t see it. I cracked up laughing. You see “I sold” but not “violent”? That’s weird. Clearly, sane people accidentally add Ns when reading [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and who ever heard of someone sold’a-ing anything?
So all this to say. The list is still forming, and thanks very much for the ideas. As far as the Greek names go, everything was held up to the standard of Iolanthe (the way-out-there that we both like), Ariadne (the arguably less crazy option), and Penelope (the arguably mainstream option), so after looking through all those similar-to names, I’ve realized that we probably ACTUALLY want something totally different that Iolanthe could go WITH as the middle. Which, yeah, I just said yesterday I didn’t want to fall into. And I still don’t want to fall down the rabbit hole there. But, I think the Greek and I names have probably been exhausted, don’t go mad searching those.
This is the most recent list in progress, with at least nominal approval, by both parents, of entertaining the options (there’s another list waiting for Hubby to look at but none of those have been added to this list):
Verity
Ariadne
Marigold
Felicity
Penelope (nn Nellie?)
Serafina
Lottie (currently unattached)
Ruby
Zaria
Victoria (nn Vix?)
Marian
Meredith
Adele/Adela
Cordelia (Cora, Della?)
Ivanna
Anya*(nn)
Andromeda (Anya?)
Rhonwen?
Iolanthe
Constance
Violet
P.S. @mccharlie - Whoa, big long list, I saw this after I had spent all my breaks of the day working on the previous reply. I’ll take a look, thanks.
