Name Hunt: Agent 007

Reply 9/25 with Hubby’s most recent reviews on the accumulating list: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums

EDIT 9/7

Here is a case of “turning the tables” on the stereotype of husbands vetoing lists of perfectly nice names: I’m looking at a list my husband made… and crossing them all off.

We’re expecting our #7 in [name_f]February[/name_f] (“Agent 007” for a fun “bump name”). I have somewhat “out there” taste in general, and my husband is just… unpredictable. I really never know what he’s going to like. [name_m]Just[/name_m] about all the names we finally chose were only found through a difficult slog of searching until we finally, finally found a name that we could both love.

I did realize, however, that all three of our girls’ names and/or nicknames are in the U.K. Top 50-100. So I decided that we would just start there, and sent the British [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names list for my husband to look through.
(Top 1000 Names in England and Wales, 2015 - British Baby Names)

Here’s his long list from the Top 500 or so… with all of my objections. Now, in his defense, it IS a “long list” and he did mention that he wasn’t 100% on all of them and realized some were completely unusable.

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] …I’ve never ever liked this name at all, and despite continued popularity, I have too many friends my age to think of this as anything other than a “mom name.”

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] … [name_m]SIL[/name_m] is named this; also our surname begins with T so those S sound endings aren’t the best.

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] … That “LOOSE” syllable. Ugh. It annoys me so much. And, we already have a C@spian.

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] … I really tried to talk him into this one a few years ago, and now I’m sick of it because of all the [name_m]Wills[/name_m] saturating the little-kid demographic.

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] … We already have an Ev1e.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] … Commence nerd overanalyzation: looks like “violent.” Looks like “violin.” It’s just so PURPLE.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] … It’s cute, I like it and all, but not really enough to actually use it. We already have a Peregr1ne and I don’t like those two names together. I do like [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. I guess I could survive with that. So… a grudging maybe on this one?

[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] … Wait, you mean like [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m]?? Ooh, [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_f]Firth[/name_f]. Pemberley is an interesting name but really only as a middle…what were we talking about?

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] … This is the ONE name from his list that I also had on mine. And this one had an “it’s ok” next to it. I like the full name, in theory. Maybe only because it’s 4-syllables and doesn’t make people’s eyes bug out. I’m not a particular fan of the [name_f]Queen[/name_f], though. I loathe [name_f]Vicki[/name_f] and [name_f]Tori[/name_f]. [name_f]Rhea[/name_f] works but I don’t like it. [name_f]Vera[/name_f], I could do. Which Hubby always vetoes, so. (And this is the one that made both lists!)

[name_f]Aria[/name_f]/[name_u]Arya[/name_u] … [name_m]Way[/name_m] too “Game of Thrones” now. Hard pass.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] … I really liked this one until [name_f]ISIS[/name_f] became a thing, but again, no.

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] … This was on my list until about 5 years ago, and I’m completely over it. Also, it sounds like Libya.

[name_f]Paige[/name_f] … Wait, what? He pulled [name_f]Paige[/name_f]?! Like a medieval go-for boy or a book? No…

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] … “LISSY” IS LITERALLY THE WORST. Worse than [name_f]Vicki[/name_f], worse than [name_f]Tori[/name_f]. Ok. Other than that. I don’t love it, but objectively it has a nice meaning and “fits” with the other kids’ names.

[name_u]Skye[/name_u] … Unexpected! I would consider this as a nickname to something more complex, so… it has potential.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] … Last time, I wanted [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] and he wanted [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], we compromised with Georg1a. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is too similar now [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] … Super cute, love it, we already have a Pipp1n.

[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] … You mean like the computer that you talk to?

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] … This… this is like the most boring name I can think of.

[name_f]Natalia[/name_f] … This one is interesting, and I like it, but I never can get past that “[name_u]Christmas[/name_u]” meaning, and this kid is not due at [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] (BTW we already used An@stasia as a middle name so we do seem to have a bit of overlap on some Russian-type names).

[name_f]Anya[/name_f] … I WANT to love it, but I just hear “on ya.” [name_f]Enya[/name_f]?

[name_f]Alexa[/name_f] … Oh, no THIS is the computer that you talk to. Still pass.

[name_u]Piper[/name_u] … Okay, actually this one is on my GP list but I have never seriously considered it because we have a 2-syllable, ends in -ER surname. And, it’s kind of trendy-ish for us, and passing its prime, and… Pipp1n.

[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] … This has been on and off the joint list of serious considerations for years. We finally ruled it out completely, about six years ago, as being unwearable in the U.S.

My most recent “for fun long list” without consideration for actual use: [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Deirdre[/name_f], [name_f]Azalea[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Calista[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_u]Marian[/name_u], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_u]Zuri[/name_u], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Renata[/name_f], [name_f]Ivanna[/name_f], [name_f]Irene[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Zaria[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], Inara, [name_f]Constance[/name_f] (middle), [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] (middle), [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f], [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f], [name_f]Corinna[/name_f], [name_f]Zenaida[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f], [name_f]Lorenza[/name_f], [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f].

OK… if anybody made it through all that, is anybody brave enough to advise?

Our boys are:
C@spian
Zeph@n
Peregr1ne “Pipp1n”

Girls are:
Ev3 “Ev1e”
Dulc1nea “Da1sy” (the end of her full name is prn “[name_f]NAYA[/name_f],” not “neeya”)
Georg1a

Thanks for any insight or ideas you wish to share.

EDIT: Super positive Council of Naming with the hubby! He wasn’t completely freaked by my “for fun long list” (he definitely would have run away screaming a few years ago), and he was also expecting some counter-offers based on his initial list to happen. I think I’ve finally trained and Berry-fied him. :stuck_out_tongue:

I forgot to include MY list from the British Top Names previously. And since there has been a Council on these, you get to enjoy our own vicious comments:

… I maxed out the character limit, so you’ll have to see the rest here: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums

hahaha! [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], I forgot how opinionated you both are when it comes to names! lol. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I read the comments for a name I was like, “Wow this is hardcore. WOW, this is really hardcore. WOOOOW…” hahaha. (I really miss my laughing-so-hard-I’m-crying emoji on Nameberry!)

You seem pretty nonplussed about [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], but like [name_f]Nell/name_f, so maybe another name for her? Like [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Elinor[/name_f]? If you’re not married to the idea of each kid having their own initial, I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would suit your girls’ perfectly! (Obviously, just rudimentary ideas! I’m sure you would find a [name_f]Nell[/name_f] name that suits your tastes much better than [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]!)

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] these from your for fun list:

[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (although I prefer [name_f]Rosina[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], and even [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]/Rozalina these days… I sort of like the idea of the Russian Rozalina to tie in with Ev1e’s middle)
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] (EEK! [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]'s adorable with your girls)
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] (I can’t decide if my oceans-wide love for [name_f]Adele[/name_f] makes me super want you to use [name_f]Adele[/name_f] for a little one or hoard it for myself, haha.)
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Zaria[/name_f] (this was considered in another pregnancy, no? I feel like I remember you talking about the meaning. I like [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and [name_f]Zara[/name_f] more, personally, but it’s super pretty and I remember liking the meaning?)
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] (although I prefer [name_f]Arianne[/name_f] or [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] or even [name_f]Ariadna[/name_f], I’m not sure I can see you with an [name_f]Arianne[/name_f] or an [name_f]Ariana[/name_f])
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] (super loving this as a middle lately, and I love it with your girls!)

And I’ve never gotten into [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f], despite the lovely Greek berry we have bearing the name, but I do love another similar -liki name, [name_f]Angeliki[/name_f], which seems pretty cool with your girls to me, but maybe too harsh?

[name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], and [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] are my favorites for you.

I came across THIS link in another [name_u]Berry[/name_u]'s signature, and it’s got me super in love with [name_f]Delphina[/name_f] lately, and I thought of it when I saw [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] in your signature. I’m super loving the nns [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Dia[/name_f], or [name_f]Fia[/name_f] for it, and I know you went through a [name_f]Fia[/name_f] stage (back with D@isy, if I remember correctly!) at one point. [name_m]Just[/name_m] figured I’d share.

Not sure if this is helpful at all, but hopefully it got you started. :stuck_out_tongue: So excited for you, which I know I said already, but it bears repeating. :stuck_out_tongue: I can’t wait to see what precious name you gift this little one!

I’m off to see if you have a boys’ post yet. :stuck_out_tongue:

ETA: Coming back to edit in [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], Fiala, Amélie, and Lilavati (means “playful” I think), because random names sometimes occur to me that I think you might like. :stuck_out_tongue:

Congrats on number seven! I remember it was a lot of fun trying to help you name Georg1a, so it’s exciting to do it again.

First, looking over your husband’s list, I would actually suggest putting [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] back in contention if you still like her. Six years ago, yeah, it was a bit unwearable in the U.S., but it just made the Top 1000 last year, so I think it’s becoming a lot more familiar than it was. And maybe with the right middle(s), you could even get [name_u]Skye[/name_u] as a nickname? [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] [name_f]Kalista[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]? Eh, just a thought.

If [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is too similar sounding to [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], what about [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]?

[name_u]Rory[/name_u] would work as a nickname for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. (And if you like the idea of [name_f]Vera[/name_f] a nickname, then I suggest [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] or [name_f]Verity[/name_f] as more logical ways to get there, although I guess it works okay for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].)

Are all [name_u]Alex[/name_u]- names out of contention due to the computer thing? Because I love [name_f]Alexandrina[/name_f] for you, nicknamed [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] (which sounds similar to [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]).

Seeing [name_f]Hope[/name_f] and [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] next to each other on his list makes me think of [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], which means “hope”.

I like [name_u]Ash[/name_u]'s idea of finding other names that [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] can be short for if [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] isn’t doing it for you. [name_f]Anela[/name_f], [name_f]Antonella[/name_f], and [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] are some pretty possibilities.

Moving onto your list… Well, I really like almost everything on it! If this was your eighth baby, I would be rooting for [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], but it seems a little weird to use it for a seventh baby. I also love [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] with [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] as a nickname, but maybe not with sister Ev3.

I’m unsure of how I feel about the flower names when you already have a Da1sy, but considering that her full name stands out so much from her sisters, maybe it would be nice to have a flower tie-in.

Something about [name_u]Marian[/name_u] is sticking out to me. I like that she’s familiar, but really not used at all nowadays. I also like that she’s less frilly than Dulc1nea and Georg1a, more in the style of Ev3. With Marigold and Meredith on you list as well, it seems like you’re drawn to the Mari- sound, so I suggest Marina, Marilla, Maribel, Marisol, Marielle, Marissa, Marit, Maren, Mariposa, and Mariska (Skye as a nickname?).

I love [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] and how she’s more similar to Dulc1nea in style. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Renata[/name_f], and [name_f]Lorenza[/name_f] also have a Dulc1nea-like vibe to me.

And I just personally love [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] in general!

From your list
[name_u]Marian[/name_u]: feels like it ties together unique Dulc1nea, classic Ev3 and popular Georg1a. It’s known but not widely used.
[name_f]Zaria[/name_f]: pretty, fits in very well with your kids name, especially the boys.
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]: I think [name_f]Adela[/name_f] would fit in better and have less of a connection to the singer.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] from your for-fun list too… Maybe nn [name_f]Esme[/name_f] as an answer to [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. Also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] for you. I mean you definitely have more-adventurous-than-average taste so no wonder most names from that list bored you lol.

Of the “maybe’s” on his list I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] most…though I share the cringe at “Lissy” …but she could have lots of other nn. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is just so fun to say. Sweet for a baby but smart for a woman. Great meaning. Anyway. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] just does not do it for me as it reminds me of outdated & fussy Victorian furniture.

Random idea generator…

[name_f]Antonia[/name_f] “[name_f]Annie[/name_f] / Noni / [name_f]Nia[/name_f] etc”
[name_f]Antonella[/name_f] “[name_f]Nell[/name_f]”
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] “[name_u]Sky[/name_u]”
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] “[name_f]Mamie[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Mimi[/name_f]”
Jesminda “[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Indie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] or [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] “[name_f]Posy[/name_f]”
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] “[name_f]Fae[/name_f]”

[name_u]Love[/name_u] your children’s names!

What about:

[name_f]Thalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sidonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Britta[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

Congratulations! I really like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] for you. It’s both classic like Georg1a and somewhat fun like Peregr1ne. Have you considered calling her Vix or [name_f]Via[/name_f] for short?
I also really like [name_f]Constance[/name_f] for you but I’m not sure you are willing to use it as a first name. It does fit nicely and [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] would be sweet.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]/[name_f]Theda[/name_f]/[name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (loo-chee-uh)
[name_f]Katerina[/name_f]/[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]/[name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]/[name_f]Daria[/name_f]/[name_f]Diana[/name_f] (dee-uh-nuh)/[name_f]Tatiana[/name_f]/[name_f]Olga[/name_f]/[name_f]Elena[/name_f] if you like Russian names
[name_f]Justine[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]/[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]

[name_f]Vita[/name_f] could be a nn for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] or even [name_f]Flick[/name_f],Flicka for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].

Great thoughts and ideas, thanks everyone. [name_u]Ash[/name_u], you’re cracking me up. The similar name last time was Zuzia, this time I have [name_f]Zaria[/name_f]. I should post my own hardcore rundown on my own list. Also, I did a list from the British Top Names which I forgot to include. Someone else commented, sorry I forget who, technically this is #8 counting the loss several years ago, so we are ok with considering [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] now. I’m at my OB checkup, on mobile now, so I can’t properly reply to all. But, thanks for keeping me “company” while waiting around for the doc, and I promise to update when I have a chance tonight.

Oooh I love [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]! I’d love to see your list. Best wishes to you at the doc today.

[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] or [name_f]Mariska[/name_f] could possibly work to get you to nn [name_u]Sky[/name_u]/[name_u]Skye[/name_u] and both would be super cute with your other children.

[name_f]Annika[/name_f] or [name_f]Annina[/name_f] could bring you [name_f]Anya[/name_f], if you like, or other nns ([name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f])

For some reason I keep thinking [name_f]Regina[/name_f], which is definitely a more buttoned-up sounding name, but has a lot of sweet nn potential ([name_u]Reggie[/name_u], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Gina[/name_f])

I also second a previous suggestions of [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Esme[/name_f], and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] nn [name_f]Vita[/name_f].

[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is such a GP name for me. It is so pretty, but I don’t think I would ever use it. [name_u]Tavi[/name_u] or [name_f]Vita[/name_f] could work as nns too!

Oh wow! I was laughing so hard at some of the things you said, I can completely identify! My husband suggested [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]-[name_f]Beth[/name_f] and [name_f]Melody[/name_f] last night so I’m kind of joining NB because I need to find better names as to not let those happen lol.

We’re expecting twin girls and our kids are also the types who have unconventional names. I love, love, love that you have a Dulc1nea and Per3grine as those are longtime crushes of mine that have been vetoed time and again.

I really love [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] ([name_f]Bibi[/name_f]) for you as well as Am@ryllis (my kids’ name), because why not? [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f] or [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] that have been suggested already are both gorgeous and badass.

Looking forward to following your naming journey!

Cracks knuckles Here we go:

[name_f]Emily[/name_f]: [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] may have the sound your husband likes while being more sophisticated than your mom friends. Also, the modern [name_u]Ember[/name_u] or the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]

[name_f]Grace[/name_f]: [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] (I don’t really have an explanation for these)

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]: Could you compromise on the Italian [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (Loo-sha)?

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]/[name_f]Willow[/name_f]: I agree that [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] are too close. What about other nature-ish names like [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Aster[/name_f], [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_f]Nova[/name_f], or [name_u]Wren[/name_u]? Or [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] from your fun list? I don’t think it’s unusable, I have a niece with that name. There’s fun potential for ‘z’ nicknames too.

[name_f]Aria[/name_f]: What about [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Irie[/name_f], or [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]?

[name_f]Iris[/name_f]: If you and your husband both like this one, personally I don’t think it will be confused with [name_f]Isis[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Nyssa[/name_f] or [name_f]Nerissa[/name_f]?

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]: What about [name_f]Amara[/name_f] or [name_f]Amaia[/name_f]? I think the ‘a’ sound in the middle instead of the ‘o’ separates it from [name_f]Georgia[/name_f].

[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]: I have a hard time remembering how to pronounce this one personally. [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] have been mentioned already as sounding similar.

[name_f]Natalya[/name_f]/[name_f]Anya[/name_f]/[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]: Other Russian-ish names like [name_f]Alina[/name_f], [name_f]Katya[/name_f], [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], [name_f]Larissa[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f], [name_f]Irina[/name_f], [name_f]Irini[/name_f], [name_f]Nadya[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_f]Sonia[/name_f], [name_f]Savina[/name_f], [name_f]Tanya[/name_f], [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f]

[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] reminds me of my relatives middle name [name_f]Denae[/name_f].

I love your fun list! I think you have a bunch of usable names on there, have you shown it to your husband?

[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f]: Other options are [name_f]Io[/name_f] or [name_f]Ione[/name_f] (eye-oh-knee).

[name_f]Deirdre[/name_f], [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] (I wonder if [name_f]Zara[/name_f] or [name_f]Zaria[/name_f] or Zari could be nicknames?), [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (as in [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], great namesake!), [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (another niece’s name, totally usable), [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] (love this one), [name_f]Calista[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_u]Marian[/name_u] (just want to add my thumbs up to previous posters), [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Renata[/name_f], [name_f]Ivanna[/name_f], [name_f]Irene[/name_f] (this one is on my list too), [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Zaria[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f] (my name! perfectly wearable!), [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], Inara (are you a fan of Firefly?), [name_f]Constance[/name_f] (middle), [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] (middle), [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f], [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f], [name_f]Corinna[/name_f].

[name_u]Zuri[/name_u], [name_f]Zenaida[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f], [name_f]Lorenza[/name_f], [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f] Ok these are maybe the least usable of your fun list. I’ve been personally considering [name_f]Aliki[/name_f] as an alternative to [name_f]Angeliki[/name_f] or [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f].

I love the suggestions made by previous poster neeeea.

Good luck! Let us know what you think!

@[name_u]Ash[/name_u] - LOL yeah, we aren’t lacking for opinions, by any stretch. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a good suggestion, I always think [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] though, and I’m not a fan. [name_f]Nell[/name_f]/[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] isn’t my most favorite diminutive right now anyway. I’d probably have to give that honor to [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. WHICH it seems that my husband is ok with, so… the search is on for a (non-[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], nothing against her she’s just too popular) name that we could use [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as a nn for.

Thanks for the random names, too. You never know! I did go through a “[name_f]Fia[/name_f] phase” but I think I might be over it, ha ha.

I’m kind of in love with almost all the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names, though we DID use it as a second-middle last time, so maybe we should give preference to some other flowers…

Also, I’m cracking up over your hoarding [name_f]Adele[/name_f].

Oh, and there isn’t a boy thread ATM. I can only process so much at a time. [name_m]Horatio[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m] and (coughcough we know we can’t do it really but [name_u]Jean[/name_u]-[name_m]Luc[/name_m] please if we used [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek would ANY American pronounce beautiful [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] correctly cough cough) are on the table.

@mega_muffin - Surprise for us — we were sort of thinking we might consider one or two more… in a couple more years…

These are some good suggestions. I’ll allow [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] to come back into consideration, on your good recommendation. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] never has really sparkled for me; [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is on the table for a boy; Hubby has vetoed [name_f]Verity[/name_f] in the past but it would be worth re-introducing that one (if it doesn’t sound too much like Rarity, the My [name_m]Little[/name_m] Pony, though The Sisters might think that was just peachy). [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], yes, I like that one; none of the [name_u]Alex[/name_u] names or [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] have ever particularly appealed to me, and now that you mention the similarity to [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] that seems really weird!! Making a note of the [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] ideas… [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] is cool, but we have a cousin named [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] (same last name too) so that’s out — and also [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] was vetoed. I’m updating the first message!

Georg1a’s second middle is [name_f]Rose[/name_f], so a flower tie-in does exist. I’m probably jaded where the [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-names are concerned because we have cousins named [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] and Maerah, also there is the [name_f]Merry[/name_f]-and-[name_m]Pippin[/name_m] thing that has always held me back a bit. [name_f]Mariska[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is a cool idea. Not sure I actually love Marisak — it’s more [name_f]MAR[/name_f] than [name_f]MARE[/name_f], but I really like that idea. [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] might need to go on the shelf, though we did have a loss years ago and this is technically #8 (you might remember a few #7 names in consideration on the boys side last time), but, there are negatives to having to explain that. Hubby seemed to be interested in [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], so yeah for the long list! Thanks for your great advice and ideas, as always.

@kizzy-delgago - Thanks so much for your thoughts! It’s great to get outside perspective. I feel like I’m “too close to the situation” when I’m naming my own kids!

@peanut - Ooh, [name_f]Esme[/name_f] WAS on MY British List (I’m updating the first post), and my husband seemed to like it initially, but we decided that the siblings would revolt on account of the Lemony Snicket “Series of Unfortunate Events” character. Seriously. They would be saying, “Why not [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]?! Why not [name_f]Violet[/name_f]?!” and you would probably hear the howls audibly across the country. [name_u]Boo[/name_u] hoo for [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. You’re right, [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] IS nice as a whole, as long as nobody breaks it down… Victorian furniture shrieks of laughter

I think I had [name_f]Anatolia[/name_f] on my list years ago, and my poor husband’s eyes popped out. [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] would be less… so very much name. [name_f]Antonella[/name_f] is good, though the more I’m seeing it the more I’m… Citronella? It’s reminding me of something weird but I can’t place it. [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is a nice idea too, I wish I could love [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] as much as the Berries. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], have a cousin with that name; Jesminda, I have never heard that before. [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], not so much, but OOH I like [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]. One of my sisters dibsed [name_f]Faye[/name_f] though and it seems like there are probably many other options I can look at before seriously considering that.

Great ideas, thanks!

@neeea- We named the [name_u]BIRD[/name_u] [name_f]Pheobe[/name_f]. Of course. I also like pretty much all of these, some have been on my list before, though none are sparkling for me this time. Thank you about my other kids’ names. We have such a mix now, there’s usually a favorite for everyone.

@handsallover - Vix, that’s cute. I also like [name_f]Via[/name_f] but I’m always afraid it sounds too much like a journey-in-progress, and in a weird way. [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] is ADORABLE. I love it. I love love love love it. I’m not sure I can reconcile myself to “[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] Tyl3r” though. Eeeeeeyikes, maybe a bit much. Ooh, [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]. Is that weird for a [name_f]February[/name_f] baby? [name_f]Verity[/name_f]/[name_f]Vera[/name_f] have been on the list before, someone else mentioned them, I’ll put them back on the list. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], I used to think that one was so fusty, but I’m liking it more these days.

@kashed22 - [name_f]Vita[/name_f] is cute. Maybe a bit like vitamins though. Flicka is a bit too horsey for me. I’m updating the first page so you can see my list from the British Top Name list and my vicious self-commenting on my own list. Thanks, we had a great checkup! Nice strong heartbeat!

@stephaniebrooke - [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mariska[/name_f] nn [name_u]Skye[/name_u] are great ideas, I’m not sure I love those particular names that much, but they are great ideas that I hadn’t even though of. All great ideas here, thanks for your perspective!

@mombaloo - Haha, good luck finding better names! I really like [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f], that was a serious contender for one of the other kids.

@faycosta - Ha ha! I like your knuckle cracking. I did show the long list to my husband, after I had posted. I was surprised and pleased that he wasn’t completely appalled at all — he’s been around long enough to know that I always want crazy things, and I know he wants more “normal” names, and we’re both OK with finding a compromise. So we’re off to a good start after all! I’m working on updating the first page with my British List, comments on my For Fun [name_m]Long[/name_m] List, and all that. I like your suggestion of [name_f]Ione[/name_f] and that’s going on the list. Also [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] goes on the list. I do like [name_f]Nyssa[/name_f] and [name_f]Nerissa[/name_f], and [name_f]Nova[/name_f], those were considerations once-upon-a-time long ago though they never made much traction; I also do like [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] and [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] though they are a bit too similar to some of the other kids’ names. These were some good ideas. I’m not seeing anything yet that is making me go WOW THAT’S THE ONE, but some good things to think about.

Going on the list for Hubby to look at:
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] possibilities i.e. Eeleonora, Anella,
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Ione[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaia[/name_f]
and [name_f]Serafina[/name_f], maybe the mention of the “[name_f]Fia[/name_f]” names brought this to mind

UPDATE:

I maxed out the character limit, so this is the rest of the 9/7 update from [name_u]Page[/name_u] 1.

[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: Super positive [name_m]Council[/name_m] of Naming with the hubby! He wasn’t completely freaked by my “for fun long list” (he definitely would have run away screaming a few years ago), and he was also expecting some counter-offers based on his initial list to happen. I think I’ve finally trained and [name_u]Berry[/name_u]-fied him. :stuck_out_tongue:

I forgot to include MY list from the British Top Names previously. And since there has been a [name_m]Council[/name_m] on these, you get to enjoy our own vicious comments:

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] … Vetoed due to the Lemony Snickett character. I hadn’t thought of it, but he did. And we agree that the siblings would stage an uprising over a sister named [name_f]Esme[/name_f].

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] … ::SHOCK AND AMAZEMENT:: He actually liked this one. As a nn option for… something. I’m not a particular fan of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but I’m pretty sure we could come up with something here!

[name_f]Ruby[/name_f] … This one reportedly ALMOST made his long list, so he’s not completely opposed.

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] (as just ok) … We seem to agree that it’s an option, I think it’s more “we want something LIKE this” than this actual name.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (as just ok) … It’s ok. Surname is a T so, it gets sloppy. He’s never been a particular fan.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] … I kind of like this one, the spelling gets so confusing though.

ALSO: the “hardcore” rundown on my “for fun long list” now that it’s getting put through the “actual considerations” wringer:

[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] … He’s come around to this, but we’re having trouble being convinced that it’s anything other than middle name material. I recently conduced the “barista test” on it. The clerk asked a second time what I’d said, and then didn’t even try to pronounce it. Oooh. Maybe too crazy for the real world. We considered this one in the past, and my husband commented, “It has to have some other nickname than [name_f]Io[/name_f], because she just gets turned into a cow.” I’m still laughing over that one. Ok, hon.

[name_f]Deirdre[/name_f] … This sounds like “dear-drah” in our region. Probably my second favorite, but she’s so very tragic. 'Tis better to have loved and lost… and then died by your brains splattering on the rocks while attempting to flee your wicked new husband? I’m not sure I can do this to a kid.

[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] … This one used to shock Hubby, but I seem to have worn him down. Someone suggested a Z nickname and I think that has some real promise, we’d probably like that. This has been on and off my list for a long time.

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] … Sweet and spunky, this one could be a good compromise point for us. It did “almost” make Hubby’s British [name_m]Long[/name_m] List. This one has trouble making tops for me, because I had a grandmother named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] (who was not a good role model) and I have a sister named [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. The family associations/similarities aren’t deal killers, but something more different might be a little more preferred.

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] … Ok, once you guys get me started on the [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-variations, I might not ever stop. I really love these. Full disclosure though, our 3rd daughter’s full name is Georg1a Niv1ka [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. So – I maybe should officially move the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names to the “used” category.

[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] … ::MORE SHOCK AND SURPRISE:: Hubby seemed to like this one. WHAT?! We had a miscarriage years ago, so technically this is our 8th child. Previously, we’ve considered names with a numeric meaning, a number ahead of the number of children we have living, so this is consistent for us. But, it might be sad for the kid to always have to explain why she’s 7th and named [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], so it might be better to stick with the number of living siblings. Yes, I have the “octopus” thing with this one, it’s not a deal killer.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] … First appearance on the list, I think the nn potential is good here.

[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] … I love this name so much. I love it, I love it, I love it. The thing that holds me back: [name_f]Merry[/name_f] and [name_m]Pippin[/name_m]. And, okay. It’s a bit fanciful. And [name_f]Goldy[/name_f] is not something I want to do.

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] … Dolphins are great and all, but… we’d like something slightly more profound. And, we already have a D name. I’m not married to keeping separate initials, but it will definitely need to be a truly special name.

[name_f]Calista[/name_f] … Here we go again with girls getting turned into random animals…

[name_f]Adele[/name_f] … WHY does a one-named singer have to have such a wonderful name?!

[name_u]Marian[/name_u] … Cousin named [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]… and another cousin named Maerah…

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] … We already have a state name (Georg1a) and another that begins with C AND ends in N AND has 3-syllables…

[name_u]Zuri[/name_u] … Blah, I suppose it’s too close to [name_f]Suri[/name_f] [name_f]Cruise[/name_f], but come on, this is cute.

[name_u]Meredith[/name_u] … Yah, again with the [name_f]MARE[/name_f] names. I always used to think this one was dated, but it has grown on my recently and I like the interesting ending.

[name_f]Renata[/name_f]… Nice meaning, sort of sounds like the Ramada hotel though, so probably not a real contender.

[name_f]Ivanna[/name_f]… It’s just pretty, probably too much like Ev3’s name though.

[name_f]Irene[/name_f] … Hubby vetoed because he has a mean aunt named [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]. Fair enough. She’s not nice. Too bad, because [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] from [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]MacDonald[/name_m]'s The [name_f]Princess[/name_f] and the Goblin is one of my favorites.

[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] … We both like this, we both agree that [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and Zeph@n are probably too similar, we’re both disappointed by that.

[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] … ::MORE SHOCK:: Hubby also seemed interested in this. At least she doesn’t get turned into a weird animal…

[name_f]Zaria[/name_f] … To the Berries who remember the last Name [name_m]Hunt[/name_m], Zuzia was the one on our list for ages and ages before we finally dropped it. This one is nice because it gives Hubby “[name_f]Aria[/name_f]” without the Game of Thrones, and I just about always like Z names. Also, I love [name_f]Daria[/name_f] but Hubby went to school with an annoying girl by that name or something. So this is a good one.

[name_f]Faye[/name_f] … A sister has dibsed this one, she really has her heart set on it and I don’t love it enough to lose sleep over that situation.

[name_f]Wendy[/name_f] … Nickname potential more than anything, I think.

Inara …Yes, we’re Firefly fans, but the character is actually a negative for both of us, so this one is off the real considerations.

[name_f]Constance[/name_f] (middle) … OK, [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] is super cute, but [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] Tyl3r is a bit much.

[name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] (middle), I think this one is losing the middle-aged feel, I don’t really love it enough to make it a first name though.

[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] … Too close to Xenophobia to work [name_m]IRL[/name_m], Hubby also thought of it.

[name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] … Cute, don’t know that it will ever make final cut.

[name_f]Corinna[/name_f] … Sweet, also don’t know that it will ever make final cut.

[name_f]Zenaida[/name_f] … Vetoed for being too out-there. I expect I would have ruled the same after much deliberation, so this isn’t a heartbreaking loss or anything.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] … Really more of an “I like something LIKE this” than I’m in love with THIS name kind of thing.

[name_f]Ravenna[/name_f] … Vetoed for looking too much like the word, “ravenous.”

[name_f]Lorenza[/name_f] … I’ll probably end up nixing this one for being too similar to “credenza.”

[name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f] … It’s interesting and cool, too weird to really use.

If you both love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] then I perhaps you might like [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f]. It’s from the [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] family, a lot less common in these waters, has royal, operatic and theatrical credentials and I think she fits in style with Dulc1nea’s name while also being a feminization like Ge0rgia.

A few random thoughts…

[name_f]Ardith[/name_f]
[name_f]Ferelith[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Althea[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirella[/name_f]
[name_f]Chiara[/name_f]
[name_f]Neoma[/name_f]
[name_f]Arianell[/name_f]
[name_f]Miranda[/name_f]

Good luck

Apparently this thread is where I got the [name_f]Zaria[/name_f] thing from?

Apparently when you were still looking for [name_u]Georgi[/name_u]@? Not that it matters lol.

And oooh, [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]! [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is the perfect little sister for Ev!e, Da!sy, and [name_m]Georg[/name_m]!a! EEP. I have [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as a tentative nn for [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but you shot that down, so, erm, well… ahem.

A few more [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] ideas:

[name_f]Loretta[/name_f] (loooourve!)
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliette[/name_f] ([name_u]Elliot[/name_u] doesn’t seem like your thing lol)
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] (I’ve tried to pull [name_f]Tess[/name_f] from [name_f]Odessa[/name_f], so I’m not surprised that I’m trying to pull [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] from [name_f]Elodie[/name_f])

There’s also the more obvious [name_f]Liselotte[/name_f]/Hannelotte or even [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]? I don’t think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Ty1er is so bad, and I think the sound between [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is close enough that you could use it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha, well, most people find [name_f]Adele[/name_f] too taken by the pop star, so I’ve meanwhile come to associate it ONLY with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f], and love it to death. (I’m sure I could find it in my heart to share it with you, though. )

I’m on team [name_u]Rory[/name_u] (although, please tell me you don’t think [name_m]Georg[/name_m]!a’s R0se and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] are too much [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who. They absolutely can’t be. [name_f]Promise[/name_f] me, [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. hahaha) and [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m]! I discovered a huge dose of Scandinavian ancestry recently that I never knew I had and I’m in love with all the Scandinavian names you come up with now! [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m] is especially epically cool, and I love the combo you’d picked out? [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m] [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_u]Wade[/name_u], was it?

I’d gladly hop a state for you and train every single person how to say [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. Because, you know. [name_m]French[/name_m] names are awesome. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] is seriously cool, although I’ve always preferred [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] for my own list. I think it’d make a kick-butt middle, and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] or even [name_f]Thea[/name_f] might solve his ridiculous moo-cow joke. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you could easily avoid [name_f]Merry[/name_f] and [name_f]Goldy[/name_f] with [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]–[name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], maybe even [name_f]Rilla[/name_f] as a stretch? Or [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] with an “E” middle. I love [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]. :stuck_out_tongue:

(And I’m mourning the loss of [name_f]Esme[/name_f]!)

A few other random ideas, because I’m apparently obsessed for now:

[name_f]Petra[/name_f] (because I really super want to see you with a [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. It just seems you, although my guess is that you’ve moved on)
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f]
[name_f]Theda[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliora[/name_f]
[name_f]Neva[/name_f]
[name_f]Danae[/name_f]
[name_f]Dagmar[/name_f]/[name_u]Dagny[/name_u]
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f]/[name_f]Aili[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] ([name_f]Zaria[/name_f] + [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] nn Zélie would be super cute, still, too, though)
Lilevi (probably too close to Ev!e, but I think it’s spunky and adorable)
[name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]

keels over laughing No, [name_u]Ash[/name_u], I’m not worried about a middle name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and a first name [name_u]Rory[/name_u] being two much [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who. You can breathe easy. Now, I [name_f]DO[/name_f] think if we used [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] (and we would consider that as a nn too) then it would definitely rule out [name_u]Rory[/name_u].

Oh, gracious I don’t know, if [name_f]Zaria[/name_f] is in that thread then I suppose it must have made the list at some point, I sure didn’t remember it though. Also forgot [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f], [name_u]Dagny[/name_u], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] were on his list or mine at some point long ago. I pretty much threw all my lists out after [name_m]Georg[/name_m]!a. I was on bed rest for so much of that pregnancy and burned myself out on names a bit, and I really feel “over” just about everything I used to have. When we found out about this pregnancy, I tried to think if there were any names that had “got away” and [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] and [name_f]Constance[/name_f] were the only ones that came to mind on the girls’ side.

I think that basically [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] is in, one way or another. It just has so many cool connections so the more I’m thinking of it, the more I think it’s just right. My dad’s name is the last honor name I haven’t used - [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - which, depending on the source, generally means something like steadfast/firm. AND, his birth month is [name_f]February[/name_f], same as this baby. AND the Feb. birth flower is the violet. AND the violet is supposed to mean faithfulness/steadfastness. AND [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] means the flower violet. AND the letters of [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] are IN [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f]. Soooo yeah. It’s in. Yes, it works for straight [name_f]Violet[/name_f] too, though without the letters of [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]. NN [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] would make [name_f]Violet[/name_f] much more palatable to me. So I’ll at least TRY to consider it, because I know it has been one of my husband’s favorites for a long time and in spite of my vicious shoot-down, it’s still more likely to happen than [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f].

@dream.create - [name_f]Neoma[/name_f] is so cool! I like that meaning. I suppose it would perpetually be confused with [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], ugh.
