I sometimes get mildly frustrated by the lack of any discernible logic in my name preferences. Like, I’ll love one name and really dislike another when they’re almost… the same… name? The first example that sprung to mind was [name_f]Helena[/name_f] (HE-le-nuh), which I love, and Eleanor/Elinor/Elena (EH-le-nuh), which I… don’t. But the difference in pronunciation is only one letter! Same with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] pronounced EE-vuh and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] pronounced like [name_f]Ava[/name_f]: the difference in how they sound is in in no way proportionate to the difference in how much I like the name. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is another one: neither are my favourite but I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] so much more; I guess the ‘x’ sound is stronger than the ‘s’ but surely it’s not that big of a difference?!
