Not really a rant but…
I only the vaguest of ideas of what a Telegraph birth announcement is…and at this point I’m afraid to ask.
this is a fun read

Rant of the day (or night, as it would seem): I have this terrible pet peeve where I can’t have two names in my UC that I wouldn’t actually use together. I would not want to name siblings [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], but I love both name so much and I don’t want to take either off my list…
in the uk, there’s a very posh right-wing newspaper called the telegraph, and its birth announcements column is notorious for featuring all the most extravagant and posh names from rich tory brits. that’s what we mean <3
It’s sorta funny to me as an American that those would be considered “posh” because here a lot of them would more likely be labeled as “trashy”
I think they are more in between for me… I actually like a lot of them!
As a fellow American, I would definitely not view these as trashy. Hipster more likely. I quite like a lot of them too.
I volunteer as tribute!

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Golden[/name_u]
[name_f]Edeline[/name_f] [name_u]Golden[/name_u]

[name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_u]Golden[/name_u]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_u]Golden[/name_u]
[name_f]Lotte[/name_f] [name_u]Golden[/name_u]
Oh, please do! It was for you, my dear!
Ok this topic is somewhat name related but (I also blurr it so people don’t have to read it, but I just need to get it off my chest):
I’m annoyed when other berries skip answering pp’s questions, for instance the quick question thread and just put their questions down. Obviously it doesn’t happen too much, but still.
And on to the name rant part: why must [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] be unusable as a first name for me. Like I cannot have a [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] while having a [name_f]Kika[/name_f] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u], and then a [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] as a sibset. [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] and [name_u]Lemon[/name_u]
I am so mad that [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] is iambic (the way I pronounce it) because any combo I try to make with it as the first sounds so much better swapped
I HATE that if I spell a lot of girl’s names I like with a K it’ll look ‘Kardashianized’…
Like [name_f]Kassandra[/name_f], [name_f]Kalliope[/name_f], [name_f]Kalista[/name_f], Kleio, [name_u]Kora[/name_u], [name_f]Kassia[/name_f], and Kalisto! Most of their C counterparts are made up.
And Kazzandra! It’s an old Greek name! But it’ll look so weird in [name_u]America[/name_u] aaaaughh.
The word gauge has other uses - I just think of like, a tire pressure gauge.
why is thomas so but tom is so !!! and alexander !! why is alexander so but alex is literally the most !!!
Yes yes yes!
I have a friend who goes by [name_m]Tom[/name_m], and when we first became friends, I asked him if I could call him [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] instead it’s just so much sweeter!
this is also how I feel about [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] “Nick”
adding christopher “chris” to the list !!
(although i actually don’t mind tom as a nn for thomas - but i agree with the other two!)
I agree with this for both [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] nn [name_u]Nick[/name_u] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] nn [name_m]Tom[/name_m], but I actually think [name_u]Chris[/name_u] is the sweetest nn for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
(and [name_u]Alex[/name_u] is honestly growing on me for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] )
