I don’t actually think [name_u]Golden[/name_u] is that tricky a mn, but maybe that is because it’s mine haha. In my case it is a family surname that was passed on, so maybe it is different, but I think it works perfectly well with some of the names you already like.
I don’t understand where you get [name_m]Jim[/name_m] from [name_u]James[/name_u], it’s my dads name and it annoys me every time I hear it
If you swap & switch [name_u]James[/name_u] around, you could get [name_u]Jem[/name_u], & maybe, they just changed it to a phonic spelling?
Other than that, I got nothing, lol.
James was likely shortened to Jam or Jem, then Jim comes from rhyming with the former nicknames.
Many nicknames like those tend to come from rhyming or they get changed up a little bit based on similar sounds.
Another example: Margaret → Marge/Margie → Mag/Maggie → Meg/Meggy → Peg/Peggy
I’d guess it comes from an older pronunciation, similar to [name_f]Kate[/name_f] for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. Maybe at one point in time [name_u]James[/name_u] was pronounced more like “Jims”
working on my top twenty for a thread on here, i realized knox or nox could totally be a nickname for enoch… i think i love enoch even more now!
This is only semi-related to your comment, really just to one of your names haha. But I actually have an uncle named Twain! I wanted to point it out because I assume it’s so rare of a name that very few people know anyone with the name. He’s like 60 years old or so, and a rural farmer, which I think the farmer part fits the country association of the author!
Random other details
He’s married to my biological aunt, and I recently learned his name is Twain Sven, and his brother is Hans (but pronounced like hands without the D because they’re country lol). I think it would be hilarious if his brother Hans’s middle name was Kristoff because then they’d have a nice Frozen thing going haha! I think they have a close ancestor who is Scandinavian or something (hence part of their names). Anyway, more than you probably wanted to know, but I think it’s fun
Anyway, I love your names and how you incorporate religion into them Also your dilemma is so true. So many good names that the only other solution is to have like 20 kids
I have so many names that I would use as middle names but so few names I would use as first names
You can overwrite it: [name_u]Louisiana[/name_u], [name_m]Beloved[/name_m], [name_f]Cleary[/name_f].
But the links won’t work correctly.
The only Cleary I know of is a girl!
[name_f]My[/name_f] rant today is that I don’t have so much time available for nameberry as I did before [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] and I really want to keep up with everything and everyone, but every time, I log back in to find the Quick [name_u]Poll[/name_u] Thread has like seven hundred replies since my last visit and I just can’t
I currently wish to throw all my girls names directly into the garbage - yet I don’t know what I want from them or what to replace them with.
Making combos at this point feels almost useless. It’s fun doing it but instinctively I want to put Glory as a middle every single time cause 1) it will realistically be a child’s middle name after my grandma and 2) it goes with everything
I wish [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] and [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] were given more love. There such lovely names but I recently brought them up to someone who promptly said “eww.” I’d love to have a little [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] but wouldn’t want her to go through life with a name people think is terrible.
I hate when I find a place that should be a plethora of new names and then they’re all names that I’ve already seen a hundred times that day or they’re all names that aren’t my style.
Like, I’m at a sports day today and there’s a board where they show all the names but I can’t find anything interesting and there’s still like half an hour to my next event.
These feels quite tame, actually!
I thought you were going to say something like Mahershalalhashbaz Moonfared
No that would shock me, haha! I feel like you’ve had enough unusual names on your list over the years that the ones mentioned above don’t really surprise me. Especially Happy feels very akin to something like Glory or Bravery.
I suppose I would be surprised by you choosing Luvenia over Lucy irl, but Marigold feels very you.
I have an ancestor who’s name was Praisdoer
I wish [name_f]Narcissa[/name_f] didn’t sound like narcissist. It’s quite a pretty name otherwise.
Narcy would be an adorable nickname for [name_f]Narcissa[/name_f].
I wish names wouldn’t go out of date. like I love the name [name_f]Thelma[/name_f], it’s a family name, but I wouldn’t be able to use it because it’s so grandma-ish
