there is something very odd about finding out that one of my favorite names has a very religious meaning. of course, there is nothing wrong with being religious, it’s just that i am very much Not Religious At All, and i feel like i don’t really want a heavy association like that with a name i love.
Out of curiosity, what name was it?
kitto. it means something like “follower of christ” which is not what i am and not the kind of image i want to put out to the world. (i obviously mean this with absolutely no offense to religious folks, it’s just that i don’t believe and it feels…disingenuous using a name like that.)
I feel the same way about [name_f]Tziporah[/name_f].
I really like [name_m]Kitto[/name_m] too. It reminds me of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] Kiddo from Kill [name_m]Bill[/name_m]. And [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is such a sweet nickname. If it makes you feel any better I don’t think most people would know the name [name_m]Kitto[/name_m] was religious upon hearing it.
I named my son [name_u]Pilot[/name_u] and many people have assumed it was Pilate. His great aunt even spelled it Pilate on his baby shower cake after I had already explained it was like an airplane pilot. I think she was trying to irritate me.
i don’t understand why there isnt more [name_m]Arran[/name_m] love on nameberry. maybe it comes from growing up near the isle and some of my best school memories taking place amongst its breathtaking landscape, but i just can’t get it. It’s so . And people love the other scottish island names; [name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_f]Iona[/name_f], [name_f]Islay[/name_f], so why not [name_m]Arran[/name_m]?
i’m trying to work on my spring uc, but we got our summer seasonal decor in at work today! we already had some outside summer toys out but our entire spring/easter decor section has been replaced with summer. now i’m gonna be in the summer mood when i really need to finish my spring uc!
I feel the same about the same name! I love the vibe and feeling that [name_m]Kitto[/name_m] gives me, but it would feel so disingenuous to use because I was brought up to be very anti-religion (absolutely no offense or problem with people who are religious )
I actually love the name [name_u]Addison[/name_u] for a boy but one of my best friends is a male [name_u]Addison[/name_u]. He’s great, but I’m not naming my child after him LOL.
Also, [name_u]Isle[/name_u] would be >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> [name_f]Isla[/name_f] if the word aisle didn’t exist…
[name_f]Melody[/name_f] & [name_u]Billie[/name_u] (g) have the exact same vibe. I can’t explain it, but they do
Okay, I just have to get this out there:
I no longer see a point in asking “does this name work as a nickname for this name?”
[name_m]Even[/name_m] if it doesn’t make any sense, as long as it works for you, I don’t care what you nickname your child. Nicknames are personal and don’t have to make sense to the rest of the world. If it makes sense to you, it works
[name_f]My[/name_f] rant of the day is that usually I love the feminine version of a name (e.g. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] or Victoria) over the masculine version of that name (e.g. [name_u]George[/name_u] or Victor) but since there is a limited number of boys names I like compared to girls names, I’ll probably end up using the boys name I don’t love as much as the girls version since there are too many girls names I love more than it but if I do I’ll always think of the girls name I love more and if I don’t I’ll be annoyed I never got to use either version of the name …
if it helps you to feel better kitto can be a masc variant of katherine “pure”
I don’t want to use a nickname for my child. If I want to name her [name_f]Ofelia[/name_f], I will call her [name_f]Ofelia[/name_f] (of course, it others call her [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or Fefe, that is fine! But I will call her Ofelia). If I like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], I will call her [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
It’s not? [name_f]My[/name_f] life’s been a lie this whole time /j
But how is [name_f]Mabyn[/name_f] suppose to be announce?
The ratio of boys:girls names in the Name of the [name_u]Day[/name_u] thread is almost never even and it drives me nuts for every 1 masculine name there’s like 6 feminine names that follow it and it makes me feel like I have to put a boy name in attempt to even it out It’s definitely a me problem but I’m gonna complain anyway
as if esau, ephraim, ezra, and enoch were getting lonely on my list, i’ve just added esai
now i just need a combo. esai summit, esai bear, rivers esai, braven esai…
I love it as a name! It’s similar to the names of two people I know so I can’t use it, but I would love to see it garner popularity.
Same here! I cannot imagine using a nickname. I don’t really like nicknames, minus a few exceptions, so even something like Chicōmexōchitl wouldn’t get a nickname.
It’s pretty visible on my own list too Some days I post boy names just so my list is balanced out and isn’t entirely composed of girl names.
I misread [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f] as [name_f]Maranatha[/name_f] which actually seems like it would fit with your style
[name_f]My[/name_f] name rant is I often like names and not the spelling. I tried to explain it to my husband and he thinks I’m mad.
I really dislike names with ae in them - [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] etc. I like the sound but not the spelling, ae just looks wrong to me…
Anyone else agree or understand me??
I feel like 50% of the time I take adding names to my lists so, so seriously, and the other 50% I add names to it so willy-nilly that I’ll go back a few days later and delete more than half them. I can’t add [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] to my list, because [name_f]Lila[/name_f] doesn’t fit with my other girls names, and [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is too nickname-ish, even though I smile when I see them, and they make me feel warm inside. I can, however, add [name_u]Happy[/name_u] to my boys list even though it’s extremely out-there, and I’d never be likely to even bring it up as a potential name if I were having a baby right now. Like make it make sense?!?!
